120 Minutes was a weekly television show dedicated to alternative music and college radio that aired on MTV and MTV2 from 1986-2003. The show was hosted by several MTV VJs early in its run (e.g., Alan Hunter, J.J. Jackson, Kevin Seal), but it developed a clearer focus by 1988 with its first long-term host, Dave Kendall (the show's original producer). The video playlist also focused more on artists popular in college and alternative radio (e.g., R.E.M., Siouxsie & the Banshees, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sonic Youth), rather than on "light rotation" videos.

As the show progressed into the 1990s, it began to feature live musical performances and occasional guest hosts (e.g., Thurston Moore, Henry Rollins), as well as a new rotation of show hosts (e.g., Lewis Largent, Matt Pinfield). 120 Minutes also featured the hosts appearing at different musical events, such as Lollapalooza, the Tibetan Freedom Concert, and England's Reading Festival, often conducting live interviews with musical acts present. In the United Kingdom, 120 Minutes was also featured on MTV in the mid-1990s, hosted for two years by ex-Wonder Stuff frontman Miles Hunt.

During its run, 120 Minutes became known as a reliable source for new alternative music as well as groundbreaking artists pushing through into the mainstream. However, in the spring of 2000, MTV decided to cancel regular airings of 120 Minutes in order to make room for other developing shows on the channel (arguably, for shows that were seen to be more profitable). Nevertheless, 120 Minutes eventually moved to MTV2 in 2001, where it was able to continue its broadcast for the following two years, including another rotation of show hosts (e.g., Dave Holmes, Chris Booker, Jancee Dunn, Jim Shearer). Shearer, the final show host, brought 120 Minutes to an eventual end on May 4th, 2003. Shortly afterwards, MTV2 began airing a similar version of 120 Minutes called Subterranean.moreless

Hosted by Mario Lopez, the show pits dance crews in a weekly challenge based on a theme, doing their best moves to megamixes of pop and hip-hop music. Their performances are scored by the judges, hip hopper Lil' Mama, N'Sync alum JC Chasez, choreographer Shane Sparks, and R&B performer Omarion. The home audience then votes, and the 2 crews with the least votes face off and the judges send one team home. Teen Cribs is the spin-off of MTV's popular show Cribs. This time, instead of focusing on houses belonging to big-time movie stars, musicians and athletes, regular teenagers are profiled alongside their one-of-a-kind dwellings. These aren't your ordinary McMansions, either. We are talking about prime real estate here! What makes the houses unique, besides how incredibly extravagant they are, is the fact that they are put together by the parents to keep their children safe, happy, and at home. These are places with indoor nightclubs, indoor basketball courts, golf courses, movie theaters, plus secret passageways and hidden rooms! Basically everything and anything that kids daydream about for their own dream houses is featured on the show. On Teen Cribs you'll meet the lucky teens who call these places home, as well as their best friends who find it difficult to return to their own houses. Teen Cribs began in January of 2009 and has had two seasons. Details for upcoming seasons have not been released.moreless

Worst Prom Ever is the MTV TV movie about a group of teens who experience a total disaster of a prom night. Prom night is an American ritual that is supposed to be the best night of a high schooler's life, but it rarely pans out that way. From executive producer Maggie Malina, the mind behind the Super Psycho Sweet 16 movies, comes a tale of some high school seniors whose prom night turns into one they will never forget, and not for good reasons. We join Clark (Daryl Sabara), Heather (Haley Ramm), and Neve (Chloe Bridges), three seniors who have high hopes for their big night. All three are unexpectedly dumped by their dates in their own humiliating ways, and try their best to turn their nights around. They band together on a mission to fix things, and end up on an insane adventure which brings them face-to-face with their exes, drug dealers, drunken limo drivers, the cops and much more. If they can make it through the night, these three will have a prom story for the ages in MTV's movie Worst Prom Ever. Worst Prom Ever premiered on May 10th, 2011 on MTV.moreless
