Ed Stevens is a contracts lawyer at a high-profile New York City firm. Around the same time he splits with his wife (who slept with a mailman), he makes a single error in punctuation when going over a contract. Because of the resulting financial loss to the firm, he's fired. Despondent, he heads back to his (small) hometown of Stuckeyville -- 'Anytown', USA. There he realizes he's been missed by a lot of friends whom he's missed and he sees Carol, the girl he'd adored in high school. Swept up in roiling emotions, Ed buys the local bowling alley on a whim, moves to Stuckeyville, and determines to win Carol's heart. His horizons broaden as he settles once more in Stuckeyville, and the series itself settles into a charming, funny, often serious slice-of-life series focused not solely on Ed but on the lovable ensemble cast of people who live and work with him in Stuckeyville.
THEME SONG The first season's theme song was Foo Fighters' "Next Year" from their There Is Nothing Left To Lose CD. The second season's theme song was Clem Snide's "Moment In The Sun" from their The Ghost of Fashion CD. "Next Year" was welcomed back as the theme song at the beginning of the third season.
SYNDICATION As of 2007, the show is not in syndication, but CMT Canada has announced they started airing the show September 8, 2006 at 8pm. It's not believed to be aired in the USA.
DVDs As of 2008, there are no official DVDs available for the show. Judging from what we've heard, the reason for the delay in getting DVDs to the market is the music rights are expensive. The show used a lot of tracks from a large number of artists, and it would be very expensive for NBC to acquire the rights to use the music on the DVDs.moreless

"Blake Holsey high-- Just another boarding school, or so I thought. But things are a little different here. I've made some friends. Even got a cool teacher. The principal is definitely hiding something. And this guy, Victor Pearson-- Somehow he's behind all the really weird stuff that happens here. We'll figure it out. But in the meantime, these are... strange days at Blake Holsey High." - Josie Trent, narrating introduction. "Blake Holsey, it's not your ordinary boarding school. Not even close. Things are a little different here. See, I've stumbled onto a mystery with my friends. I've got a cool teacher, but the principal is definitely hiding something. And this guy, Victor Pearson; somehow he's behind all the really weird stuff that happens here. Is that floating ball of his the key to the mystery? We're getting closer. But in the meantime, these are strange days at Blake Holsey High." - Josie Trent, narrating introduction - Season Three. Something's going on and someone's behind it and we're going get to the bottom of it." Principal Durst: "There is nothing wrong at Blake Holsey High" -Opening narration for the third season Black Hole High -Contributor: Gordo_Fan Characters: Josie P. Trent - "New kid at school -- Doesn't like rules": Blake Holsey High is Josie's latest stop on her long trail of boarding schools, followed by an ultra-sized permanent record. Estranged from her mother, Josie is outspoken and expressive. She is also described as smart, gutsy, and disliking everything phony. She isn't afraid of rule breaking (she is a notorious class skipper) and is most likely involved when there's trouble, especially because it is a habit of hers to investigate the odd occurrences of the school. Josie hates cats and public speaking, and is not good at singing. She lives with Corrine in room 21. She was kicked out of her last school for turning some of the students's skin green. Corrine Baxter - "Straight "A" student": An attendant of Blake Holsey High for two years now. Conforms to all rules and is highly organized, intelligent, and careful. She has an IQ of 172 and has sang in a choir. Her mom is a psychiatrist and her dad is a brain surgeon. Roommate is Josie in room 21. Vaughn Jody Pearson - "Most popular boy in school -- Has dark secret": One of the most unlikely students to join the Science Club or even be associated with science. His father is Victor Pearson. Vaughn is often placed in uncomfortable positions to find out information discussed by the science club and comes into conflict with morals. He is left handed, has dyslexia, and is on the football and wrestling teams. In room 36, he is not assigned a roommate. His birthday is June 17. Marshall Wheeler - "Young, gifted, geek": Very intelligent. Dedicated to getting things, aims towards amusement, and tends to think about ways of making money. He apparently dressed up as Principal Durst for Halloween and made a genetically engineered soap that turned his skin green. Has an older brother named Grant who also attended Blake Holsey. He is the lead singer and keyboard player for "Magnet 360", a band of Blake Holsey. Roommate is Lucas in room 32. Lucas Randall - "Suspicious of everybody": He is not good at sports and isn't the preferred choice to be on a team with. Often picked on by bullies and isn't good at insults. He is known for looking into conspiracies and his stories are often not believed. Lucas likes fishing with his father and playing chess. Lucas also has asthma. Roommate is Marshall in room 32. Principal Amanda Durst - Once a new teacher at Blake Holsey High, she has now been principal of the school for the last 10 years. She attempts to keep the hopes of the students high but has a watchful eye on the science club. She loves Romeo and Juliet. Professor Noel Zachary - Science teacher and head of the Science Club, we find out though that this was not always his passion. It was luck that he received a scholarship from Pearadyne Labs to continue to college. He also was employed by Pearadyne Labs for a short time. Like Josie, he is interested (and often fascinated) in the odd occurrences and seeks to find the cause of them. He does not like giving pop quizzes. His favorite kinds of foods are hotdogs and spaghetti bolonges. He has a dog. Professor Zachary's birthday is on the 25th but the month is unknown. His last job was at an all girl school. The Janitor - When even Professor Zachary doesn't have the answers needed to solve their problems, the janitor turns up to individually give the students perplexing advice. He claims to like reading and his living area is usually not lit. Appears unsurprised at the mysterious events and seems to be watchful of Pearadyne Labs. He is usually seen attending to anything leftover by the suspicious occurrences. Victor Pearson - "Vaughn's father -- Major league bad guy": Having a fascination with science from a young age, Victor Pearson is the wealthy owner of Pearadyne Labs, an institution dedicated to science. An accident occurred 15 years ago causing mysterious happenings around the affected lands and the loss of his wife. He is head of the board of directors/governors for Blake Holsey High. He is suspicious of the Science Club and especially Josie. Victor's mission has been the reopening of Pearadyne Labs. Kelly Trent - Josie's mother. She worries that Josie may not like her and is trying to be more close to Josie. According to her, the work she does involves research for private companies and is an occupation involving confidentiality. She also worked at Pearadyne, apparently one of the people who began it. NBC (ended 1971)
The Bill Cosby Show aired for two seasons on NBC, 1969-70 and 1970-71. There were 52 episodes made in the series. In this lighthearted comedy, Bill Cosby played the role of Chet Kincaid, physical education teacher at a Los Angeles high school. The Chet Kincaid character was a bachelor, an average cool guy trying to earn a living, and help people out along the way. Many of the episodes involved Chet in various situations at the high school with his students and fellow teachers. In some episodes, Chet was asked to substitute, and fill in as algebra or english teacher. In one hilarious episode, Chet was the drivers ed instructor trying to teach a nervous student how to drive. Other episodes involved younger children, and some episodes involved family and adult characters. Different guest stars also appeared in various episodes thruout the series. The shows theme song- "Hikky Burr" was written by Bill Cosby and Quincy Jones with Cosby providing the vocals. The lyrics were hard to comprehend, but the song had a groovy tune and funky beat. For the second season, a more uptempo and jazzy version of the song was used. The show was entertaining, and did not use a laugh track, which is unique. The Bill Cosby Show was not your average, laugh-out-loud type of sitcom. The episodes were humorous, but the show emphasized warmth, intelligent character studies and plausible, real life situations. The plot of many episodes centered around a lesson in life learned, which was explained in the classic Cosby style.moreless

    NBC (ended 2005)
The series involves an ex-beauty queen/NFL cheerleader who's lead to believe she'll be on a dating show where she'll get to pick from a group of handsome men, a la "The Bachelorette." The first twist comes when she arrives and discovers the guys are actually "Average Joes." In the first season, the bachlorette is Melana Scantlin. NBC Studios is behind the series which will contain original twists and turns for the current dating/reality genre. Specifics however where not revealed. In the show, each week the beauty learns about her suitors during group and individual dates, as she determines which one might be her soul mate. She faces tough decisions as she must eliminate some guys in order to focus on those she has the most chemistry with. As the host and confindant, Kathy Griffin will offer her take on the behaviors and personalities af the men and is on hand to introduce the many twists and turns the show takes. The Peacock has committed to six episodes of the reality series from Executive Producers Stuart Krasnow ("America's Most Talented Kid") and Andrew Glassman (CNBC). Kathy Griffin ("The Mole") will host the project which, like FOX's "Mr. Personality" will test how important looks are in the dating process. Average Joe 2: Hawaii Hot on the heels of this Fall's hit Average Joe, NBC premieres the second installment of the series, Average Joe: Hawaii, on Monday, January 5 (10-11 p.m. ET). This new series was taped before the first series ever aired, thus protecting the twist. "As soon as we saw the first tapes of the original ‘Average Joe,' we knew there was rich potential for a second helping of this twisted take on the dating show. The fact that we taped both series before either hit the air allows for the surprise twists to hit the new participants with the same impact they had on the original show," said Zucker. In this new series, the crown of "Average Joe's" former beauty queen and NFL cheerleader Melana Scantlin is passed on to another former Miss USA contestant and model - Larissa Meek, who is swept away to a secluded island paradise with the promise of romance to be found among a group of 18 Prince Charmings. With no way of knowing the secret twist to "Average Joe" in advance, our new beauty must decide how to proceed when she meets the unexpected group of guys with big personalities, but admittedly average looks, ranging from a 5-foot-3 engineer to 340 pound sewage contractor. While finding themselves on what one dismayed ‘Average Joe' describes as "nerd island," the guys happily greet their beauty unaware that in a few short weeks a group of eight traditional dating-show-studs will join the competition to vie for her affection. As the series proceeds, new takes on the twists of "Average Joe" are in store for the audience along with brand new dramatic surprises; and tensions between the two groups of men reach new levels in several emotionally charged ‘joe' vs. ‘jock' showdowns. Average Joe 3: Adam Returns NBC will be premiering the third season of the series, Average Joe: Adam Returns, on Monday, March 15 (10:00 PM). The new season will be having new twists, and the biggest one would probably be Adam Mesh's return to the show. After Melana Scantlin's choice to take Jason as a winner on Average Joe's first season finale, instead of Adam, Adam's fans sent a big number of e-mails for bringing Adam back. Finally, after second season finished its airing, Adam Mesh will return to the show as a main bachelor in Average Joe 3: Adam Returns. Now Adam Mesh has the power to choose over some girls... Average Joe 4: The Joes Strike Back The newest and boldest installment of NBC's popular relationship series Average Joe about average-looking guys with big hearts and great personalities hoping to win the love of a beautiful woman returns with more twists, turns and conflicts than ever before. This time, stunning 26-year-old red-headed beauty Anna is the alluring bachelorette. Born in Poland and raised in Las Vegas, Anna has a degree in business administration and is now a model and entrepreneur. Once again, the unsuspecting model thought she was on a traditional dating show only to be surprised by a swarm of average Joes, including a tool salesman, a pest control guy and a computer-science student pursuing his Ph.D. In the six-episode series, the 18 enthusiastic average Joes hope to woo and win her over with their charm and personalities. But first, they'll have to navigate through an all new series of dramatic twists and turns, outrageous surprises ? and their toughest competition yet ? seven strikingly handsome jocks who are cocky and confident that Anna will only have eyes for them. Also included are a romantic getaway to exotic Tahiti, surprise visitors for both the Joes and Anna, and the return of three of the most popular former Average Joes in the premiere. Committed is the latest comedy with an edge from creators/executive producers Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline (“Roseanne,” “Murphy Brown” and “Ellen”) that casts an off-kilter eye on the bizarre whirlwind courtship of two opposites who attract each other despite outrageous circumstances. Brilliant yet neurotic Nate (Josh Cooke, “Century City”) is a tightly wound ball of phobias until he accidentally unravels when he meets eccentric yet eternally upbeat Marni (Emmy Award winner Jennifer Finnigan, NBC’s “Crossing Jordan”). As fearful Nate and fearless Marni awkwardly begin their mating dance -- amid the eclectic craziness of New York -- their relationship’s yin and yang somehow match despite a closet-full of obstacles. In fact, free spirit Marni has a “dying clown” (Tom Poston, “Newhart”) quietly living in her apartment’s closet (she inherited the homesteading clown, who came packaged with the apartment). Bowie (Darius McCrary, “Family Matters”), Nate’s friend and co-worker in a vintage record store, offers forceful advice while Marni contends with her sardonic friend Tess (Tammy Lynn Michaels, “The L Word”), the reluctant and semi-irresponsible nanny across the hall who might be even closer to the edge than she is. Tolerant and optimistic, Marni finds herself drawn to the endearing Nate despite his obsessive compulsions – and he can’t resist her loopy orbit in a quirky relationship straight out of Lewis Carroll’s looking glass. Unique as each one is, perhaps they’ll put their pieces together and defy the odds as they form an irresistible couple whose fresh connection may yet endure. The comedy explores the wild, sexy and funny side of the ‘burbs – where apparently everyone has a lot more to reveal than what first meets the eye. As young parents Doug and Janine try to keep the passion aflame in their relationship, they find that keeping up with the Joneses in the deceptively tranquil Hidden Hills adds a whole new dimension to the traditional neighborhood block parties, softball games, bake sales and over-the-fence gossip.moreless

Five-time Emmy Award winner John Larroquette ("Night Court," "The John Larroquette Show") returns to primetime television when he stars with fellow Emmy winner Christine Baranski ("Cybill") as would-be empty-nesters whose twenty-something children just can't seem to get the hang of flying solo in this adult comedy from executive producers Moses Port and David Guarascio (both "Mad About You," NBC's "Just Shoot Me"). Peter and Annie Brennan (Larroquette and Baranski) are anxious to begin celebrating life as a couple again now that their children are all grown up, but it just doesn't seem to be in the cards. Their youngest (and definitely, not brightest), Tim (Tyler Francavilla, "Boston Public"), should be graduating from junior college, but instead he's moving in with the "older" woman-next-door -- his mom's thirty-something tennis partner, Maggie (Susan Gibney, NBC's "Crossing Jordan"). Their eldest, Todd (Jeff Davis, "The Downer Channel"), is the apple of his dad's eye and is engaged to a great girl – and having an affair with yet another great girl. And daughter Sara (Melanie Paxson, "Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of ‘Three's Company'"), the over-achieving family success story, is in the midst of a major emotional meltdown. Pamela Fryman (NBC's "Just Shoot Me") directs the pilot from a script by Port and Guarascio in this production from NBC Studios. (Simulcast in HDTV)moreless
