Wagon Train followed the trials and tribulations of pioneering families as they set out from the East to carve out a new life in the West soon after the American Civil War. For some of the travellers it was a happy ending, but not for all, which only heightened the drama along the way. Such a structure ensured that the scriptwriters had a wide scope for their stories which , more often than not, revolved around the characters rather than the action, although the series had more than it's fair share of that too. With a new storyline nearly every week and a larger than average budget for the time, it was never difficult for the producers to attract well known guest stars in front of the cameras with some famous names behind the cameras too. Wagon Train was a hit on both sides of the Atlantic between 1957 and 1965. It survived cast changes to the leading actors and changes to the format which is testimony enough to the show's popularity. Even now fans who watched it back then remember it with fondness, and regular re-runs ensure it's continuing popularity with newer generations.moreless

"Every time I turn around, I see the girl who turns my world around..." Seven-year-old Punky Brewster certainly turned Henry Warnimont's world around. Henry was a grouchy old man who was set in his ways, until Punky came along and changed him in a way that was not thought possible...Henry became a happy man, determined to be the best parent he could be. According to reports from when this series was announced, there was a real Punky Brewster, but not quite like the one in the show. When NBC's programming head Brandon Tartikoff was a kid, he had a crush on a tomboyish older girl by that name. Years later, Tartikoff's first child was nicknamed Punky. He also thought it would be a great name for a series. NBC's attorneys tracked down the real Punky, who was married to an attorney in Connecticut, and got permission to use her name. The real "Punky", Peyton B. Rutledge, even appeared in the Season Two episode "The Search", as a teacher at Punky's school. The show's premise was as follows: After 7-year-old Penelope "Punky" Brewster and her beloved dog Brandon are abandoned at a shopping center by Punky's mother, Susan Brewster, Punky is taken in by Chicago photographer and apartment building manager Henry Warnimont, who lives on the apartment building's second floor. Henry's friend, Betty Johnson, lives upstairs from Henry. Betty is a registered nurse who has had custody of her granddaughter, Cherie, ever since Cherie's parents died in a car accident. When the show first started, it was aired on Sunday nights after the weekly televised NFL football game, which would sometimes run overtime into Punky Brewster's 7:30 PM time slot. Instead of cancelling the show because of this, they would make 15 minute episodes to air whenever the football game ran into the show's time slot. Six of these 15 minute episodes were made. Whenever the show is in syndicated reruns, these six 15 minute episodes are aired in three 30 minute packages of two 15 minute episodes each. After Punky Brewster's first two seasons, the show went into first-run syndication for its last two seasons.

Theme Song: "Every Time I Turn Around"
Written by: Judy Hart Angelo & Gary Portnoy
Maybe the world is blind, Or just a little unkind. Don't know. Seems you can't be sure Of anything anymore. Although, You may be lonely and then, One day you're smiling again. Every time I turn around, I see the girl that turns my world around. Standing there ... Everytime I turn around, Her spirit's lifting me right off the ground. What's gonna be? Guess we'll just wait and see. Spinoff: It's Punky Brewstermoreless

The Hogan Family began in March of 1986 and was originally titled Valerie. Starring Valerie Harper as Valerie Hogan, Valerie was the wife to Michael Hogan, an airline pilot. His job took him away from home quite regularly so Valerie was left to raise their three sons, David, and the fraternal twins, Mark and Willie. David was the oldest and girl crazy, Mark was the brain and a perfectionist and Willie was the carefree clown who seemed to always be in trouble. At the beginning of the third season, a well publicized dispute between Valerie Harper and the producers led to her leaving the show. Despite the fact that two episodes had been produced for the third season, one including Valerie Harper, they were both shelved and the show changed titles to Valerie's Family. In the show, it was explained that Valerie had suddenly died and now, Michael's recently divorced sister, Sandy, is moving in to help raise the boys. Stories revolved around the boys growing up and dating as well as Michael and Sandy each getting out in the dating scene. In 1988, the title was changed again, this time to The Hogan Family. At the end of the 5th season, NBC dropped the show however, CBS picked it up for another season, adding John Hillerman as the character of Lloyd Hogan, Michael and Sandy's father. Santa Barbara was a long-running soap opera centered on the lives of a wealthy Capwell family, living in Santa Barbara, California, and the other families such as the Lockridges, Andrades and Perkinses. The show was created by Bridget and Jerome Dobson, the two writers that gave the show dramatic stories combined with comedy and romance. After the Dobsons were forced to leave the show in 1987, the soap changed, started focusing on different characters and the show was never the same. In 1991, the Dobsons returned to the show, but were unable to save the show, and then got fired again. In 1992, Pamela K. Long was hired as the new Head Writer and, in an attempt to save the show, she introduced a bunch of new characters and left out many original characters, which only buried the show deeper. During its stay on television, the soap was at the bottom of ratings, although it was very popular and considered a "cult favorite." The show won numerous awards. In 1993, the show was canceled. 2137 episodes were aired. Although the show didn't have good ratings in America, the popularity of the show in Europe was amazing.moreless

    NBC (ended 2000)
Workplace situation comedy centered on the character of Susan, a "somewhat sheltered" magazine writer who has dumped her rich fiancé at the altar and must now cope with being suddenly single - complicated by the fact that her boss at hip San Francisco magazine The Gate is her ex's brother Jack. He has promoted her from copy editor to writer of a column on being single in the '90s, thus irritating her co-workers: caustic lifestyle columnist Vicki, Cuban playboy photographer Luis, and rock critic Todd (whose limited attention span after years of MTV necessitates his being celibate). Susan's main support is her loving grandmother Nana. In highly publicized trouble before it ever aired, Suddenly Susan had to switch formats from a bookstore (shades of Ellen) to a magazine workplace setting - sort of Mary Richards going to work for Lou Grant at the Trib. Despite some bright writing and reasonably funny performances (especially from Brooke Shields, who got surprising mileage out of the problems inherent in being very tall and attractive), the show never quite jelled, perhaps because the characters were never even remotely credible as functioning journalists. Susan was put on hiatus to make room for NBC's retooling of The Naked Truth. It later returned to the NBC schedule in late February 1997 and subsequently did well enough to be renewed for the Fall 1997 television season. In Germany the show is known simply as Susan.moreless
