    Nickelodeon (ended 1991)
This was the only Nick kids game where there was no slime involved. Three contestants competed in a cross between Jeopardy! & Trivial Pursuit (1993). There were 7 subjects, 6 regular & an elective (IE: English, Math, Science, PE, History, Geography & Music) & 7 grade levels (Elem., 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th & 12) on a 49 square grid board. The contestant chooses a category & grade (IE; Math-7th grade). The first one that buzzed in & correctly answered won that box, placing their desk color (red/blue/green). However, some boxes had surprises which includes... FREE: Get the category &/or grade free. TAKE: Take an opponent's claim & making it your own. LOSE: Must forfeit a box you have already claimed. Then there were the... FIRE DRILLS! In the Fire Drills, the contestants had to perform stunts. The first player to succeed had first choice of desk & so forth for the second & third players. The game's played in two rounds & the first person to have all 7 subjects & grades won the game! Only once, a kid did it so early that they had a 2nd game with 3 new contestants. The winner got $500 while the losers got $50 along with consolation prizes. The bonus round was called the Honors Round. The player had 45 seconds to answer 7 questions in various subjects to win the grand prize (usually a trip + $1,100). However, each correct answer paid $100 so a player can win up to $600 ending up with $1,100 total.moreless

Maple Town Story was an anime produced by Toei Animation and Asatsu during the wonderful age of the 80's. Often you can find more information on it if you search "Maple town Monogatari" since that was its Japanese name. In the US, the series was broadcast on Nickelodeon starting in 1987 and ending in 1993. Maple Town featured a cast of animal characters, mainly young Patty Rabbit (who in the first episode, moves to Maple Town with the rest of her family) and her friend Bobby Bear, and the antics of the hapless criminal Wild Wolf. The show also spawned a line of toys featuring the various animal families, as well as accessories such as houses and cars. In some markets, these toys were called the Sylvanian Families, and are still available in Japan today.moreless

    Out of Control

    Out of Control

    Nickelodeon (ended 1988)
By October 1984, Nickelodeon was ready to make itself over. Their personality change included introducing the orange logo that still exists today. And as for new television series, Nickelodeon went way out with Out of Control.

From the 10- and 30-second spots promoting the show, one could sense Out of Control was a crazy series indeed. Watching an entire show, one saw a few easy, quiet moments, but those were outnumbered.

Comedian Dave Coulier was host of Out of Control (and its announcer). His job was to talk to guests and introduce segments such as "Let's Eat!," Adult Education" and "How Not to Do Things," but that wasn't easy. His two field re-porters, Hern Burford and Angela (Scoop) Quickly, were stark opposites, involv-ing Dave in their competition. Angela got some important stories under her belt, while Hern made up ridiculous storylines if for no other reason than to get air time for himself. Together or separately, Angela and Hern fronted regular fea-tures such as "Are We There Yet?" and "It's Probably True."

Further adding to the chaos were Dave's studio technician Waldo and stage manager Diz. Waldo "invented" two machines specifically for the show: the Hurry-Up Machine (with which Dave sped up films of children doing tedious chores) and Ha-Ha 3200, the comedy computer that wrote Dave's material.

And oh yes, Diz. She patterned her wardrobe and make-up after Cyndi Lauper, kept in step with the trends of '84 (one of which she called "Indianapolis Jones") and helped make the show, at times, "Diz-astrous." One can still hear her high-pitched whistle, made from the back of her throat, in the recess of the brain. All that chaos would lead, inevitably, to Dave's sign language gesture: "Cut it out!"

What a way to bring Nickelodeon into their new era. Or, as the cartoon critic on the series would say, "That's not a new era. That's stupid!"moreless

Nick @ Nite's first animated original, Fatherhood takes an optimistic look at the problems, rewards and comedy of family life. Based on a book by Bill Cosby, the richly animated show shows the life and times of Dr. Arthur Bindlebeep, a high school professor, loving husband, devoted son and father of three. Dr. Bindlebeep is an experienced teacher, but he's always learning from his 3 kids, Angie (16), Roy (12), and Katherine (6), about what it takes to be a good father, real-life communication and himself. Meanwhile, Dr. Bindlebeep is surprised to find out that his parents, Lester and Louise still have a thing or two to teach him. With his wife, Norma Bindlebeep, Dr. Bindlebeep gamely tries to sort out the complications of parenthood, without losing his sense of humor. Characters Bios Arthur : The Father: He's what this show is all about! He's the man of the house, who is silly and nice, but at times he can be very stern. Norma : The Mother: Mrs. Bindlebeep is nice, but stern. She has to control her children... and the father. Angie: Angie is 16 and the oldest child out of the family. Angie is smart when she tries, but she only gets average grades, because she cares about makeup, music and of course boys more than studying. Roy: Roy is the middle child of the family. Like many middle children, he slips out of his parents care. Roy also likes sports and video games. Katherine: She is the youngest child out of the family. Katherine's favorite stuffed animal is a bunny named Mr. Bummy. She has trouble keeping secrets, and she asks a lot of questions. Rated: TV-Gmoreless

Stoker maybe a 'orrible piece of work, but he wasn't exactly wrong when he rejected loudmouth Jason, Italian wannabe Bruno and short-sighted goalie Ben from the team. Mia knows she's useless at footy, but maybe new boy the super slick and the super smooth Dennis can help improve their chances this season? Eddie's even managing to juggle his team responsibilities with running Graceland and keeping the burger and chips coming. So who knows maybe this will be their year.
