    ChalkZone

    ChalkZone

    Nickelodeon (ended 2008)
The show follows an elementary school boy artist named Rudy who has a special talent: he can draw a portal on a chalkboard and enter the world dubbed appropriately ChalkZone. Once in ChalkZone, Rudy has the ability to interact with drawing that were once on chalkboards and have been erased. This show has a lot to do with the childhood theory of where drawings go after they are erased as well as teamwork to stop even the weirdest scenario. There is actually a Spin Off of ChalkZone! Called: 'ChalkTalk'. Which airs right before ChalkZone. (Kind of a Commercial sorta thing.) Spin-off to Oh Yeah! Cartoons Show Times ChalkZone Currently Airs: Nickelodeon Saturdays and Sundays at 12:00 Nickelodeon 2 Saturdays at 3:00 & 3:30pm Nicktoons TV Sundays at 9:30 pm Mondays at 12:30 am CBS: Chalkzone is now on CBS! (8:00am) Characters Rudy Tabootie: In real life, Rudy's just a regular kid from a town called Plainsville. But Rudy's got one thing most kids don't: a magic piece of chalk that lets him enter ChalkZone, an amazing world where chalk drawings come to life. Snap: Snap is Rudy's idea of a perfect superhero AND a perfect best friend. He's totally fearless, he's as cool as he is blue, and he's always cracking people up-or cracking Bullynerd on the noggin. Penny Sanchez: Penny's totally obsessed with science, while Rudy's a dreamer and an artist. But Penny helps Rudy solve problems, and Rudy takes Penny to new places, like, you know, behind the chalkboard where drawings come to life. Oh, did we mention Rudy has a little crush on her? Reggie Bullnerd: Reggie's the local bully in Plainsville. As if that wasn't bad enough, his chalk-drawing alter-ego, Bullynerd, roams ChalkZone constantly, terrorizing Rudy and his posse. Fortunately, Bullynerd's not only big but also dumb, so Rudy can usually outwit (or at least out-draw) this ogre. Queen Rapsheeba: Queen Rapsheeba is one of the more interesting and entertaining inhabitants of the world behind the chalkboard. She's not only the best rapper in all of ChalkZone, she also has the best car show. And she holds the key to Snap's heart, of course... Joe Tabootie: Rudy's dad is an all-around good guy. He doesn't quite understand Rudy's obsession with drawing and wish that Rudy were more into butchering, the family business. Unfortunately for him Rudy is the kind of kid who would never get a job like that but would enjoy a more "adventurous job." Despite this, Joe still loves his son and is still proud of Rudy for being who he is. Mildred Tabootie: Rudy's mom is what you would describe as a whirlwind of activity. She's what you would call a bit dramatic, and sometimes she tends to blow by Rudy at 90 miles an hour when she's focusing on whatever task is at hand. Mildred works for the newspaper and spends time coming up with a Martha-Stewart-ish column in the local paper titled "Mildred Knows Best." Mr. Wilter: Mr. Wilter is Rudy's teacher, and he's pretty well convinced Rudy's a big time slacker. Maybe that's because during most of Mr. Wilter's extremely long, extremely boring lectures, Rudy is busy drawing. Instead of seeing Rudy for the imaginative kid he is, Mr. Wilter thinks he's wasting his time. Blocky: Blocky is Rudy's very first drawing. He's just square with hands and legs. Theme Song Name: Rudy's Got The Chalk By: Bill Burnett Chalk!… Chalk!… Chalk! Chalk! SNAP: Rudy's got the chalk! Rudy's got the chalk-a, chalk-a, chalk ChalkZone Rudy's got the chalk-a, chalk-a, ChalkZone Rudy's got the chalk-a, chalk-a, chalk ChalkZone Rudy's got the chalk-a, chalk-a, ChalkZone PENNY: Rudy's got the chalk! Max and Ruby

    Max and Ruby

    Nickelodeon
In creator Rosemary Wells's own words, she explains the show's goal:

"Max and Ruby celebrates the relationship between Ruby and her younger brother, Max, and the universal nature of sibling relationships. It's as common an experience to many childhoods as Band-aids and birthdays. And what makes the relationship in the series compelling is that I've added salt and pepper to it, instead of sugar."

The residents of the show's universe are all rabbits which children (and even adults!) will find quite adorable. The superb animation appears to have been done on computer (not three dimensional, though) and the artwork itself is very, very well done. The characters' expressions, especially Max's mischievous look, and behaviors are worth watching!

Interestingly, we never see the parents of Max and Ruby, making it look like they live by themselves in a big house. This has come under criticism by many parents. However, their neighbor-grandmother and other adults do make frequent appearances.

Rosemary Wells has created many books and shows, such as Timothy Goes to School among others.

    Cast

Max. An enthusiastic and determined three-year-old who speaks no more than a few words each show. Often at odds with his sister mainly because she doesn't understand him or doesn't want him to do some certain things (such as making noises). He tends to get things his way at the end, though!

Ruby. Max's seven-year-old sister, a very smart, goal-oriented and responsible (albeit bossy) young lady. Almost in every episode, Ruby is frustrated by Max getting into messes or disobeying her, but she displays a tremendous amount of patience while she tries to set him straight.

Grandma. Grandmother of Max and Ruby, she lives next-door and often pays them a visit, or vice versa. A c grandmother both in personality and appearance: kind-hearted, generous, crow's feet, and a sweet smile.

Louise. Best friend of Ruby's, they have a lot of things in common, including being related to curious little boys. Louise is in Bunny Scouts along with Ruby and Valerie.

Morris. Louise's cousin who is a year or so younger than Max. Appears in very few episodes. (Thanks, Kerry & her daughter for pointing out that Morris is a cousin, not a brother of Louise's.)

Valerie. Another friend of Ruby's as well as Louise's. She wears glasses and is an intelligent, funny girl. She's also in the Bunny Scouts.

Martha. One of Ruby's friends and a Bunny Scout, although she appeared in only two episodes or so. Didn't speak much.

Roger Piazza. Even though the only words he utters are "uh-huh" and "nuh-uh", he is perceived as the cool kid by Ruby and her friends. The "jock" type of boy, he's several months older than Ruby. ("He's seven and a half years old!" gushes Ruby in an episode.)

The Huffington Family. The family is composed of sweet-tooth Mr. Huffington, friendly Mrs. Huffington, and their adorable kid Baby Huffington. They're well-known locals/neighbors, and Mrs. Huffington often asks Ruby to babysit Baby Huffington.

Candi. She runs a local candy store and is very generous with candies.

Rosalinda. The owner of the town's gift shop. Always willing to lend a paw.

Bunny Scout Leader. (Anyone know her name?) The Bunny Scout Leader guides the girls through the activities to earn their badges. Yes, it's the bunny version of the Girls Scout.

Mr. Piazza. Roger's father. He owns and runs the grocery store which Roger sometimes helps out at.

Katie. Owner of a restaurant; she's also the waitress. Not a frequent character and played a role in Ruby's Surprise Party episode.moreless

    Pelswick

    Pelswick

    Nickelodeon (ended 2002)
Welcome to the Pelswick guide at TV.com. Pelswick Eggert is a 13-year-old 8th grader with a sharp tongue, a healthy suspicion of authority and a complete lack of fear. He also is in a wheelchair due to him having no feeling below his armpits. Pelswick is just like any other 13-year-old when it comes to being independent, disaster-prone, mixed-up, and plugged into everyday pop culture. Pelswick's home life is dominated by his fiercely-protective (and totally insane) Gram-Gram, as well as his politically correct father Quentin, who will go to any length to avoid offending anyone. ("Nobody's wrong, they're just differently right!") Also in the picture are precocious younger sister Kate, and little brother Bobby, who says exactly one word per episode. At school, Pelswick's life is made miserable by bully Boyd Scullarzo, and Boyd's none-too-bright sidekicks Nick and Joe. Boyd is truly dedicated to the art of bullying; he's announced publicly that "it's bad form to beat up a cripple, so I'll focus on humiliation and psychological torture instead". ("Cripple", incidentally, is Boyd's term; Pelswick prefers "permanently seated".) Fortunately, Pelswick has a loyal band of friends to help him through the rough patches: numbers-obsessed Ace, dim-but-decent behemoth Goon, prima donna Sandra Scoddle, and sensible Julie Smockford, on whom Pelswick has a not-so-secret crush. Finally, there's Mr. Jimmy, a Jerry Garcia look-alike who is Pelswick's thoroughly incompetent guardian angel. Invisible to everyone but Pelswick, the laid-back Mr. J pops up at the strangest times to offer Pelswick maddeningly cryptic advice about whatever outrageous predicament Pelswick finds himself in this week. Mr. Jimmy routinely drives Pelswick crazy, and Pelswick often goes to great lengths to try to avoid him... but how can you avoid an angel who can instantly appear wherever you happen to be?moreless

The Adventures of Pete & Pete

The Adventures of Pete & Pete

    Nickelodeon (ended 1996)
The Adventures of Pete and Pete was a surreal comedy in which a peaceful suburban neighborhood was a strange and skewed world as seen through the eyes of pre-teens. Wellsville, USA contained many different unique characters, such as: two brothers that were both named Pete, the metal plate in their mom's head, Artie the spandex-wearing super-hero, and Petunia, little Pete's tatoo. The Adventures of Pete and Pete originated as a series of one-minute vignettes in 1990, was expanded into a series of five specials, and then became a regular series in late 1993. The show was filmed in Leonia, New Jersey. Episodes (or portions of episodes) were also filmed in the New Jersey towns of South Orange and Cranford. The theme song to the show is called "Hey Sandy" and is sung by the band Polaris. The band has an album entitled Music from the Adventures of Pete & Pete that features nothing but songs from the show. The lyrics to the theme song are as follows: Hey smilin' strange, you're lookin' happily deranged Can you settle to shoot me? Or have you picked your target yet, hey Sandy ai yai yai yai... Don't you talk back, ai yai yai yai, hey Sandy Four feet away, end of speech it's the end of the day We was only funnin', but guiltily I thought you had it comin', hey Sandy, ai yai yai yai Don't ya talk back, ai yai yai yai, hey Sandy, hey... In 1995, The Adventures of Pete and Pete received a Cable Ace Award for Outstanding Children's Series. In recent years, The Adventures of Pete and Pete made its first release on DVD in 2005 under the Rewind Collection title. The Nickelodeon company apparently gave in to demands by fans of the "cult classic" and released the first season of the series along with Nick's other classic show, "Clarissa Explains it All" in May 17th 2005. Sadly, the Rewind Collection's only other release as of now is the second season of P&P, released in November 11, 2005. Although the third and final season was scheduled for a February 28, 2005 release, it has been completely removed from the release schedule without any excuse.moreless
