    Turkey Television

    Turkey Television

    Follow
    Nickelodeon (ended 1987)
It sounds stupid, but oh Take one look and you'll know That a turkey created TV. Welcome to the Turkey Television guide at TV.com. By 1985, the brains behind You Can't Do That on Television carried their creative energies from Ottawa to Toronto. From there emerged Nickelodeon's hodgepodge of comedy bits from all over the world: France, Italy, Australia, the United Kingdom. A lot of acquisitions took place to make Turkey Television, and some of the sources were pretty amazing. London Weekend Television loaned bits from the Pink Medicine Show, Russ Abbott's Madhouse and Pushing Up Daisies. Norwegian network NRK brought filmed pieces tapped from Nuts and their 1979 award-winning travelogue spoof To Norway Home of Giants. Cartoons first used on The Great Space Coaster, came to Turkey Television. Also brought in were bits from the New Jersey Network cult classic The Uncle Floyd Show. And there was more where that came from. From New York came Mickey Siporin's short films such as "The Ritz Newsiola" and (in the second season) "Blink-O-Rama Theater." The Other Café's Comedy Showcase and the Improv provided stand-up cuts of future comedy legends Dana Carvey, Kevin Nealon and Sinbad. Even George Carlin got on the Turkey Television bandwagon, with clips from his 1984 HBO special Carlin on Campus. Turkey Television also used comedic music videos, from classics such as Fish Heads and "Weird Al" Yankovic selections, to the obscure California-based number Two Triple Cheese Side Order Of Fries. And if that wasn't enough, there were even clips from the real comedy legends Charlie Chaplin, The Three Stooges, and Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows. Despite the acquisitions, much of Turkey Television was original. Short sketches were built around such characters as Dr. Gil Tripp, Psychiatrist; Gramps & Sonny (Les Lye played Gramps); Blanche Almonds, the Career Counselor who brought out disgusting aspects of every job under the sun; high-school-aged Katie & Hillary; second-grade Wedding Pages; intelligently-challenged Kentucky Boys; "Everybody's Mother" and "Somebody Else's Mothers," who conjured ways to make life miserable for their kids; advice columnist Dr. Joyce Sisters; and Ivan Tellalie, whose "Russian Tru Fakts News" twisted the truth about North American society for then-Soviet audiences. Another original element of Turkey Television was the cartoon character Thurman T. Turkey. He was the continuation of a brilliant partnership that had already yielded the animated short It's So Nice to Have a Wolf Around the House and cartoons for 3-2-1 Contact. All told, the old hour-long Turkey Television promised 42 comedic bits, and delivered. It was the only show to run on Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite, a proud symbol of the doppelgänger network's new 24-hour schedule. Turkey Television was reduced in late 1986, airing a 30-minute version on Nickelodeon and cutting the Nick at Nite hours to only weekend telecasts.moreless

    Romeo!

    Romeo!

    Follow
    Nickelodeon (ended 2006)
When you've got a rapping, record producing dad, two brothers and a sister to deal with, life can be pretty crazy. But aspiring rapper and middle school b-ball star Romeo Miller never loses his cool. Well, almost never. Music holds the Miller family together, and no matter how much they argue or get on each other's nerves, they always end up in harmony. Well, almost always... Tune in and raise the roof with real-life father-and-son team Master P and Lil' Romeo! Character Guide Romeo Miller: Romeo wants to make it big and he wants to make it big NOW! A little bit rapper and a little bit basketball star, Romeo is a whole lot of mischievous. He's quick to find himself in trouble, but he's just as quick to sweet talk his way out of any situation. Romeo digs shooting hoops, rapping with his group Pieces of the Puzzle, and hanging with his family-which is a good thing, since they also happen to be in his band. He has a vivid imagination and wants to conquer the world-but first he's gotta conquer middle school... Percy Miller: Percy's a hard-working record executive who deals with musicians all day long-which is a piece of cake compared to what he deals with at home. Percy's a great dad who always seems to find out about the trouble his four kids are getting into, even when he's on the road. His musical talent definitely rubbed off on his kids, who are determined to make it in the music biz. But they won't be getting an easy in from Dad-Percy's favorite piece of fatherly advice is that "If you want something bad enough, you'll figure out how to get it on your own." Jodi Miller: Romeo's older sister Jodi gets straight As, is supremely popular and has tons of boyfriends and a booming voice she lends to the family band. Jodi's got it goin' on-and she knows it. Though she tries to make it seem like being so together comes naturally, she works hard to stay on top. Jodi's biggest pet peeve? Being told what to do. She's got all the answers and thinks she's always right-until her dad comes home, at least. Louis Testaverde: Though he wasn't born into the family, the newest member of the Miller clan has certainly become a crucial part of the mix-not to mention the band. The Millers adopted Louis a few years back, and he quickly became Romeo's best friend and partner in crime. Unlike his brother Romeo, who's like a magnet for trouble, Louis likes to think things through. Not that all that thinking ever stops him from going along with Romeo's convoluted schemes anyway... Gary Miller: Gary's the baby of the Miller family. He looks up to his brothers, sister and dad, and can basically get away with whatever he wants because he's got the cute thing going on. Gary's also a member of the family band, Pieces of the Puzzle. He's got a great ear for music, but his musical tastes don't always do it for the rest of the family. But hey, he's only six! Myra Salinger: Myra's the Millers' next door neighbor and Romeo's enemy number one. She's had a crush on Romeo since...well...forever, and the fact that he's becoming a big time musician only makes her more determined to be his girlfriend. But even though Myra is completely and totally annoying, Romeo can't deny she's a great listener, and sometimes even asks her advice when there's no one else around. And believe it or not, he usually doesn't regret it. Usually! Angeline: (Season 3-) When Angeline met Percy a year ago, it was clear her life was never going to be the same. After they got married, she became the Miller kids' stepmom. Angeline's an extremely kind, loving and smart mom, and she keeps the Millers on their toes with her uncanny ability to figure out what everyone in the room is thinking-just by looking at them! As an architect, Angeline uses blueprints to plan her projects, but it looks like she's already got the Millers all mapped out! Mrs. Rogers: (Season's 1-2 only) Mrs.Rogers is the Live-in nanny for the Miller family, although she cant do the same things as all the other Nanny's like cook, clean, or help the children with their homework, shes still good and funny. Opening Theme Song Lyrics Hey Ro watch and flo, Its time for The Romeo Show, Holla Romeo Show now Romeo's on now, Stop what ya doing 'cause Romeo's on now. I'm ready to rumble, Mix it like gumbo, The Romeo Show, Competition I crumble, I mean I can't be stopped, I will not quit, 'cause me and the man make straight up hits. So adi adi oh, Adi adi Ro, It's time for the Romeo show, Where kids have fun they can catch ya get some, Peer pressure aint nuthin, Real life outcome, Okay! The Adventures of Pete & Pete

The Adventures of Pete & Pete

    Follow
    Nickelodeon (ended 1996)
The Adventures of Pete and Pete was a surreal comedy in which a peaceful suburban neighborhood was a strange and skewed world as seen through the eyes of pre-teens. Wellsville, USA contained many different unique characters, such as: two brothers that were both named Pete, the metal plate in their mom's head, Artie the spandex-wearing super-hero, and Petunia, little Pete's tatoo. The Adventures of Pete and Pete originated as a series of one-minute vignettes in 1990, was expanded into a series of five specials, and then became a regular series in late 1993. The show was filmed in Leonia, New Jersey. Episodes (or portions of episodes) were also filmed in the New Jersey towns of South Orange and Cranford. The theme song to the show is called "Hey Sandy" and is sung by the band Polaris. The band has an album entitled Music from the Adventures of Pete & Pete that features nothing but songs from the show. The lyrics to the theme song are as follows: Hey smilin' strange, you're lookin' happily deranged Can you settle to shoot me? Or have you picked your target yet, hey Sandy ai yai yai yai... Don't you talk back, ai yai yai yai, hey Sandy Four feet away, end of speech it's the end of the day We was only funnin', but guiltily I thought you had it comin', hey Sandy, ai yai yai yai Don't ya talk back, ai yai yai yai, hey Sandy, hey... In 1995, The Adventures of Pete and Pete received a Cable Ace Award for Outstanding Children's Series. In recent years, The Adventures of Pete and Pete made its first release on DVD in 2005 under the Rewind Collection title. The Nickelodeon company apparently gave in to demands by fans of the "cult classic" and released the first season of the series along with Nick's other classic show, "Clarissa Explains it All" in May 17th 2005. Sadly, the Rewind Collection's only other release as of now is the second season of P&P, released in November 11, 2005. Although the third and final season was scheduled for a February 28, 2005 release, it has been completely removed from the release schedule without any excuse.moreless

    The Ren & Stimpy Show

    Nickelodeon (ended 1996)
The show follows two characters - Ren, a crazy Chihuahua - and - Stimpy, an incredibly stupid cat - as they think up to all kinds of hair brained schemes and get themselves into some sticky situations. Creator John Kricfalusi (John K.) first pictured them as separate characters. Back then, Kricfalusi worked for Filmation and always yearned to bring back the style and energy of the classic Warner Bros. Bob Clampett cartoons of the golden age. So his best entertainment was making his own characters and casting them in his own imaginary stories for the benefit of his equally tired co-workers. In the late 80s, Kricfalusi started to break the barrier for animation with 'remakes' of Mighty Mouse and Beany & Cecil. But this was just the beginning. John K. brought back his doodles of the wily Chihuahua and the idiotic cat to star in their own cartoon. Finally in 1989, he, Jim Smith and Bob Camp came together to create 'Big House Blues' the first cartoon to star his creations, Ren and Stimpy. In 1990, Viacom's kids' network, Nickelodeon got hold of the film and asked Kricfalusi and his crew to make an entire series of Ren and Stimpy shorts and from that moment on, Spümcø was formed. The Ren and Stimpy Show debuted in August 1991 with a two-part episode, 'Stimpy's Big Day / The Big Shot' and became an instant hit. It was the third Nicktoon ever to be aired on the Network alongside Doug and Rugrats. Nick execs quickly sought argument over certain scenes in the shorts and Spümcø fought back. Spümcø introduced a new character come second season, Ren and Stimpy's master, George Liquor. Nick hated George, because they thought he was too mean and his last name sounded too much like 'lick her'. But the real reason why George never made it was because he was simply too 'adult' by Nick's standards. Due to controversial setbacks and numerous edits, Nick finally fired Spümcø and got hold of Ren and Stimpy, therefore taking John K.'s creations away from him. Nick then lured away two of John K.'s best friends and co-workers Bob Camp and Billy West and created Games Animation to 'take care' of Ren and Stimpy. On November 14, 1996 Nick aired the last episode produced by Games, 'A Scooter for Yaksmas' and finally cancelled the show after a 5 season run.moreless
