    Design Squad

    PBS Kids
Design Squad is a reality television show on PBS, in which kids between the ages of 15 and 19 years old design fantastical machines, all in the hopes of winning a $10,000 Intel college scholarship. Inventing is hard, even for these bright rising engineers, but luckily the kids are divided into two teams, where they can bounce ideas off of each other and collaborate on blue prints. Each person on the winning team of each challenge gets 100 points, but since the team compositions change with each challenge, an individual winner comes out on top at the end. From turning ordinary toy cars into motorized speed machines, to inventing and creating new instruments, to designing high-tech haute couture, the challenges are fun and there is a lot of creativity in each imagination-fueled episode. Design Squad teaches children about engineering in a fun way, helps along the careers of its aspiring engineer participants, and encourages viewers to be creative and think, build, and play their ways to success.moreless

    From the Top

    PBS Kids
From the Top aired originally in January 2000. The radio show from NPR features musicians age 8 to 18 from all across the United States and Canada. Christopher O'Riley, host of both the radio series and the new television format, a famed pianist in his own right, works and performs with the young performers. Now in its second season, the thirteen half hour episodes feature some of America's most talented young classical artists. Each episode of From the Top features five artists, either soloists or chamber ensembles selected from a pool of thousands of applications. Since the beginning of the show, over 1000 talented artists have appeared on the program. Each of these young artists brings breathtaking talent and incredible passion to their performances while sharing the often inspiring stories of their lives. The success of the radio format has spawned the television program From the Top: Live from Carnegie Hall. From the Top has outreach initiatives that help to bring classical music to classrooms and art programs nationwide.moreless
