PBS Indies are acclaimed independent films created by some of the world's most visionary do-it-yourself artists, covering a wide variety of topics in both documentary and fictional formats to create a film series that shows viewers a decidedly different side of the entertainment industry. No two of these films cover the same material or utilize the same storytelling format, but they all have one thing in common-they were created without the assistance of major production studios. However, in addition to this lack of financial support, the independent nature of these works also means they were created free from the restraints of Hollywood filmmaking. One of these films follows two American veterans of World War II as they revisit the top-secret and still little-known Japanese invasion of Alaska. Another documentary takes viewers into the wild world of polka with a revealing tour of Minnesota's Gibbon Polka Fest. PBS Indies are films that dare to be different with artistic and visionary explorations of a wide variety of subjects.moreless
