Fat Actress, a half-hour hybrid comedy/reality series, stars Emmy-Award winning actress Kirstie Alley, who plays a fictional version of herself: a successful television and movie star whose weight gain has become the subject of every tabloid imaginable as well as the blight of her existence as she tries to find work and true love in an unforgiving Hollywood.

Bravely willing to lampoon the image that has been mercilessly ridiculed over the past few years, Alley will give us a glimpse of the humor and the irony in her battle to lose weight and get back on television in a tough business that prefers the svelte figures seen on the most successful actresses of today.

This irreverent new series is generally unscripted, with each episode emanating from a story outline and the actors largely improvising the dialogue. The show's story-lines will be drawn from a heightened perception of Alley's real-life experiences, and some of Alley's friends have promised to appear as themselves in guest cameos to further blur the lines between truth and fiction.moreless

Barbershop, based on the successful MGM feature films, was adapted for television by writer/director John Ridley ("Three Kings," "Platinum," "Undercover Brother"), who is very active in television and films, in addition to being a prolific novelist. Robert Teitel and George Tillman, Jr., who also produced both the "Soul Food" movie and the Showtime television series of the same name, are series executive producers along with Ice Cube with whom they produce the "Barbershop" films. Most of the characters from the popular "Barbershop" movies have been retained, headed by Calvin, the reluctant hero and neighborhood confessor who runs the barbershop he inherited from his father. A few new memorable characters have also been added to the world. The continuing comical exploits of these people will be explored along with contemporary issues facing them, set against the slowly gentrifying backdrop of this fictional Chicago neighborhood.moreless
