Battlestar Galactica

The Best Show on Television? Yes, according to Time Magazine, The National Review, Rolling Stone and New York Newsday. Praised by The New York Times, The New Yorker, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Chicago Tribune and many other publications, Battlestar Galactica won a prestigious Peabody Award in the spring of 2006. Ronald D. Moore, the producer of Carnivale and writer for Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, boldly re-imagined the original 1978 space opera of humans versus the robotic Cylons. He teamed up with fellow executive producer David Eick on a powerful and dramatic update of the Galactica story. Gone are the technobabble, disco-themed costumes and Egyptian helmets of the original series. The modern show introduces new elements to the Galactica story. The Cylons have developed human-form models that are indistinguishable from real humans. The Cylons have a monotheistic religion in contrast to the polytheistic religion of the human Colonies. The approach is serious and intense, with a focus on tough political, philosophical and religious issues set in a tale that manages to keep the focus on realistic and not always perfect characters.

In the miniseries, the Cylons launch a massive attack against the humans and wipe out the Twelve Colonies, sending the 47,000 survivors on a desperate search for the fabled 13th colony -- Earth. Season One Overview The Cylons declare war on humanity, wiping out billions in an unprovoked first strike. The Colonial fleet is all but eliminated leaving just a handful of ships, including the soon to be decommissioned battlestar Galactica. Galactica is manned by a crew that never expected to be involved in real duty. With the president gone and the government all but eliminated, Laura Roslin, the Education Minister, takes on the mantle of President of the 12 Colonies. Gaius Baltar, a top researcher in Artificial Intelligence, inadvertently betrayed humanity by allowing a Cylon agent into the defense network, rendering it and all of the Colonial military forces impotent in the face of the Cylon attacks. He sees her everywhere when no one else can. He initially attributes this to stress-induced hallucinations. She tells him that she implanted a chip in his brain during their time on Caprica, which enables her to talk to him. Over the season Baltar falls in love with the Cylon, Number Six, eventually betraying humanity again and again. A lone soldier is trapped on Cylon-occupied Caprica, having given up his seat on a transport for Baltar, as he believes that his own life is not as important as one of the greatest minds of their time. He struggles against the odds, trying to stay alive amid the hostile Cylons. He is surprised to learn that Sharon Valerii, the pilot of the transport, returned for him. However, the truth is that she is actually another human-form Cylon. Sharon and Helo spend the season trying to escape Caprica. Sharon also finds herself falling in love with her human target. The season ends with her pregnant and fighting to save his life. Meanwhile, the copy of Sharon onboard Galactica (known as "Boomer") has set off several bombs and engaged in other acts of sabotage. The season ends with a stunning turn of events after a successful mission to disable a Cylon base ship. Awards and critical praise The 2003 miniseries was the highest-rated miniseries on the Sci Fi Channel (soon to be known as Syfy) at the time. It was also the most successful cable miniseries that TV season.

The first regular season premiered to excellent viewer numbers and critical acclaim. After the midseason break in Season Two, the show received widespread recognition from the mainstream media, including several outlets not always known for their interest in science fiction. As mentioned above, Time Magazine named BSG the best show on television for 2005. Rolling Stone Magazine and New York Newsday also named BSG the best show of the year. Many other publications like the New York Times and the Chicago Tribune lavished praise on the series.

The American Film Institute added the show to its list of the ten best television shows of 2005. The show won Emmy Awards in the usual sci-fi categories of special visual effects but it also received Emmy nominations for writing and directing. It also won a prestigious Peabody award for its general excellence in creativity in the television medium. The Sci Fi Channel has used creative means to promote the series, including the release of certain episodes as free streaming video on the official website. In the month leading up to the start of Season Three, the Sci Fi Channel aired a Web-only series titled Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance. The brief, 2 to 3 minute episodes revealed key events from the time period between the Season Two finale and the Season Three premiere episode. Another Web-only series was shown on the official website in the lead-up to the Season 4.5 "final" episodes. A Battlestar Galactica television movie, "Razor", was broadcast in late 2007, followed soon after with a release on DVD. The story followed the struggles of Admiral Cain and young Kendra Shaw as they tried to survive the Cylon attack on the Colonies. The hard-hitting movie was well received by fans and critics. Even though the series "ended" on March 20, 2009, with the two-hour broadcast of "Daybreak, Part 2", the Sci Fi Channel (Syfy) will broadcast one final Battlestar Galactica television movie. "The Plan" is scheduled to air in the fall of 2009. The Galactica franchise will live on, even after the final movie and DVD. A prequel series, Caprica, began production even before Battlestar Galactica ended. The pilot movie will be released as a stand-alone DVD in April 2009. The movie will later air on Syfy along with regular episodes of the new series in 2010. Stargate SG-1

This sequel to the 1994 movie Stargate chronicles the further adventures of SGC (Stargate Command). It turned out that the Goa'uld Ra was only one of many alien System Lords who used the Stargates to conquer much of the universe. When Earth uncovers a working cartouche to decipher the coding system of Earth's stargate, they can now travel anywhere. Earth's military sends out SG teams to explore new planets, find technology, and oppose the Goa'uld. Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson from the movie are part of SG-1. They are joined by Sam Carter, a scientist, and Teal'c, a Jaffa who is convinced the Goa'uld are not gods. After Daniel Jackson was temporarily killed off in Season 6 (when actor Michael Shanks left the show for a year) they brought in Jonas Quinn, a scientist from another planet, to take Jackson's place. In Season 9, Jack O'Neill left the team and was replaced by Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell as team leader. Dr. Magnus heads a global network of Sanctuaries for supernatural creatures, or as she likes to call them, Abnormals - which she retrieves from all over the world. Having injected a serum she created from pure, ancient vampire blood, Magnus and a small group of colleagues have come to possess special, paranormal abilities, or "powers" - hers being extreme longevity. Helen Magnus is a very beautiful and very well-preserved 158-years-old. In her work, she is backed by a team of talented specialists : her daughter Ashley (Emilie Ullerup), trained in weapons and combat; Henry Foss (Ryan Robbins), a techno wizard, geek and part-time werewolf; the Big Guy (Christopher Heyerdahl), a gentle giant who also happens to be an intelligent, well-refined member of the Sasquatch branch of the hominid family. Heyerdahl also plays John Druitt - sometime friend and sometime foe, a teleporter who just happens to be Ashley's father - and Jack the Ripper. Dr. Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne) completes the team. Will, a young forensic psychiatrist who recently died and came back from the dead in Kali (3), has become Magnus' trusted confidant and protégé. Unfortunately, Ashley was lost to the void at the beginning of Season Two and may or may not ever return. She was replaced on Team Magnus by Kate (Agam Darshi), a former con-woman and thief with many shady connections. Druitt, like his daughter, sacrificed himself for the team and vanished - and again, may or may not return. In 2008, on the basis of the buzz created by eight webisodes (totaling about two hours), Sanctuary was picked up by the Sci Fi Channel for 13 sixty-minute episodes, beginning with the two-part webisode redux pilot, Sanctuary For All. In November of 2008, the series was renewed for a second 13 episode season, and on October 15, 2010, after an interminable nine-month delay, Sanctuary began its third fantastic season on the now renamed SyFy - this time with 22 exciting episodes and even longer story arcs.moreless

Charlie is from Alphaverse, a dystopian universe that is ruled by five mega corporations. Betaverse, the universe Charlie is initially sent to, corresponds to "our" reality. But there's a third universe, the Gammaverse, an apparent Utopia that has an abundance of natural resources that Vex-Cor (one of the Alphaverse mega-corps) would like to exploit.

Charlie Jade was filmed in Cape Town, South Africa and produced by CHUM Television and the South African Industrial Development Corporation.

Scare Tactics

Do you know what scares you? You will get to see what scares the living daylights out of average citizens just like you on Scare Tactics, the hit series from the Sci-Fi Channel and the producers of the hidden camera show Spy TV. The series puts a new spin on the hidden camera idea by featuring pranks inspired by science-fiction and horror films. Such pranks feature "victims" in situations involving haunted houses, alien abductions and more. As an added twist, throughout the seasons the different hosts of Scare Tactics take part in many of the show's pranks. For those who think the pranks may be too mean-spirited, the producers assure that the show's staff creates detailed bios on each person to ensure that they can handle the kind of situations in which they might be placed. "That's very important to note," producer Kevin Healey says of the selection process. "We're not just playing these wacky, crazy jokes on people who are unsuspecting. We work very hard with friends and family members to make sure that the jokes are appropriate for them, that they'll get a kick out of it, all that kind of stuff. That they don't have any health problems." That's one thing that the critics of the show fail to notice. Friends and family members actually have a big hand in setting up the pranks and the "victims" are not just random innocent people suckered in by the show's supposedly "cruel" producers. Originally ordered as an addition to the Sci Fi Channel's October 2002 line-up, the show was instead moved to April 2003. Scare Tactics began with a one-hour premiere, showing two original episodes back-to-back on April 4, 2003. Season one episodes aired Fridays at 10:00 p.m. followed by a repeat of the prior week's episode at 10:30 p.m. In its second season, the first few episodes of the series aired Thursdays at 10:00pm. After a long hiatus, new episodes began airing on Wednesdays at 10:00p.m. ET. The show ended in December 2004. Three and a half years later, Sci Fi Channel revived the series with episodes of Season 3 starting up on July 9, 2008. Remember, "Laugh it up. You could be next." & "Don't freak out. It's only Scare Tactics." Actress Shannen Doherty kept us on the edge of our seats as the host for Scare Tactics in Season 1 and part of Season 2. Actor Stephen Baldwin took over as host for the remainder of Season 2. Saturday Night Live veteran Tracy Morgan joins the revival of the show for Season 3.moreless

Tripping the Rift is SciFi Channel's new comedy. Using CGI-animation and grotesque adult humour, Tripping the Rift is something new and exciting for the whole family. Providing that family is old enough to at least buy beer. Characters: Chode: The purple, yet frighteningly Kirkish, captain of the Jupiter 42. Has serious sexual issues. Has a penchant for petty theft, cheating and pornography. A true blue professional captain. Also part owner and captain of said vessel. Darph Bobo: The manic, stupid and utterly hateful Vader-spoof. Has the same homicidal tendencies as his Sith alter-ego, albeit more random in his delivery of punishment. Chode's arch-nemesis. Gus: Gus functions s both the ship's engineer and Chode's personal whipping boy. He has somewhat queer manners, which the other characters seem to find offensive. Bigots, all of them. Six: Six of One was liberated from the Federation by Chode. Somehow the debt held by Six has turned towards "love" for Chode. Six is not wholly disgusted with Chode's disgusting habits. Love has flourished on worse foundations... Has received programming beyond just being a love slave, and is the Jupiter 42's scientific officer. T'nuk: The ugly feminist. Wow. That was redundant. Actually she is not the perfect feminist, as she has an overactive libido and loves the rooster (What's another word for rooster?). Not a positive thing in a four-legged alien. Also the co-owner of the Jupiter 42 and thus the prime rival of Chode. Whip: Chode's dumb nephew. Half-witted is too positive, as Whip is a hormonally disturbed teen. Welcome to puberty and space. Bob: The ship's onboard computer. Neurotic. Not exactly good for anything except for whining. Oh. And drinking. Do not travel in space with a neurotic drunkard as your navigator/AI. Bad idea.moreless

The Invisible Man

Darien Fawkes is a thief and conman with a scientist brother, Kevin. Kevin develops a gland that allows the implantee to excrete "Quicksilver" and turn invisible. Unfortunately, the gland has the side effect of rendering the implantee berserk if a counteragent isn't occasionally injected. Darien agrees to the operation to avoid a jail sentence. Terrorists kill Kevin, leaving Darien with the gland stuck in his head. A mysterious "Agency" was behind Kevin's research, and offer Darien a deal: work for them in return for injections of the Counteragent. Using his powers of invisibility, Darien takes on spies and other criminals for the government.moreless
