American Dad! from Family Guy creator, Seth MacFarlane, is the animated story of Stan Smith, who works for the CIA and is constantly on the alert for terrorist activity. Stan will go to extremes to protect his beloved America from harm – as evidenced by the terror-alert color code on his fridge, and his frequent knee-jerk reaction of shooting holes in the toaster whenever the toast pops up.

    Production Company: 20th Century FOX.

    Also see Family Guy.

    Character Guide:

Stan Smith - Stan works for the CIA, and is constantly on the look-out for terrorists. He loves his family and will do anything to protect them, and his country.

Francine Smith - Stan's wife, she has had a past life of drugs, but she has carefully hidden her party-girl personality for the sake of the conservative man she loves. She met Stan after college.

Hayley Smith - The teenage daughter of the family, currently attending community college. Despite her father's best efforts she has turned out to be a left-wing liberal. Stan loves his daughter, but that doesn't necessarily mean he trusts her.

Steve Smith - The dorky son, he tries to act cool, but fails. Steve is on the verge of puberty - but he just can't quite make it. His low social status sometimes leads him to taking drastic action - but no matter what he does, he's just a dork.

Roger - A sarcastic alien rescued by Stan from Area 51. He resents not being allowed to leave the house, so has resorted to drinking wine and smoking cigarettes.

Klaus - A German-talking goldfish, he was a CIA experiment that went horribly wrong when they tried transplanting a German man's brain into a goldfish. Klaus lusts after Francine, and will take any opportunity that comes his way.

    Theme Song Lyrics:

Stan: Good morning, USA! I got a feeling that it's gonna be a wonderful day! The sun in the sky has a smile on his face! And he's shinin' a salute to the American race! Oh boy, it's swell to saaay! Good morning, USA! (Good morning, USA!)

Tyler Perry's House of Payne is a comedy series about a multi-generational, working class family who experiences all of life's struggles with faith, love and most importantly humor. Pops, the uncle and head of the household, has his life and home turned upside down when an unexpected event forces his nephew, CJ, and CJ's kids to move into the house, putting three generations under one roof. This chaotic living situation takes its toll on cranky Pops, who is reluctant to have his routine disturbed. In addition to CJ's family, Pops and Ella's son, Calvin, a wise-cracking college kid with no money, hangs out at home which makes it impossible for Pops to have any peace and quiet. It soon becomes evident just how wide the generation gap is, as the family tries to find a way to coexist through all of life's hilarious ups and downs. Putting the family back in family comedy, Tyler Perry's House of Payne tackles real life issues with very funny humor.moreless

Video dating clubs - where a bachelor or bachelorette completed a personality profile and then screened potential dates based on their answers - had grown in popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s. "Love Connection" was the first relationship / dating show to successfully bring video dating to TV. Chuck Woolery – two years removed from hosting what would become America's all-time favorite game show, "Wheel of Fortune" – presided over the fun. A bachelor(ette) was introduced. Although many of them were young adults looking for Mr. or Ms. Right for the first time, others were divorced or widowed, and several were in the twilight years of their lives. Woolery conducted a brief interview before the audience was shown video excerpts, which the contestant had previously seen in their entirety, of three potential dates of the opposite sex. The audience is then asked to vote on which they believe is the right date for the bachelor(ette) based on what they had seen. Most of the time, the contestant, who had already gone on the date, introduces his / her choice. The date, whom the contestant is seeing for the first time since their night out, is introduced then appears on-screen via backstage hookup. Here is where the fun really began. Woolery asks questions about what happened on their date. Sometimes, the two really hit it off ,and the two could not wait to see each other again. Woolery would invite the date onstage to reunite with the bachelor(ette). Other times, they simply had no chemistry or the date came straight from Hell thanks to personality clashes or one or both of the daters acting like jerks; in other words, the two were not right for each other. Regardless of how well the date went, Woolery then revealed the audience's choice as determined by a majority vote. If the contestant and the audience's choices agreed, the show paid all expenses for the date even if the date was a bona fide disaster. More often than not, the choices disagreed, but that didn't matter to couples who were a perfect match. Otherwise, the bachelor(ette) could decide to date the audience's choice at the show's expense, select the third potential date though a seldom-used option, or remain searching on their own. Three or four such segments aired per show. On occasion, the bachelor(ette) would have the audience decide whom they would go out with, and the contestant would report back on a future episode. Woolery presided over thousands of date recaps during Love Connection's original 11-year run in syndication. The show reprised itself for a one-season run in 1998 with Pat Bullard hosting.moreless
