In 1922, Hal Roach inaugurated a new series of short film comedies called Hal Roach's Rascals. The series featured ordinary kids, usually poor, getting into the usual types of trouble that ordinary kids get into. There was no running plot throughout the series. Each film was an entity unto itself. For instance, in When The Wind Blows, Mary Ann has a crush on neighbor boy Jackie. But in Love Business, Jackie and Mary Ann are siblings. In most films, the kids have parents, but in at least a couple of films, they live in an orphanage. This provided the series with quite a wide range of potential situations. There were many fairly ordinary episodes, but also quite a few that are truly unique. The first film was titled Our Gang and was previewed in the early half of 1922. Reviewers at the time began referring to the series as Our Gang, and the studio adopted it as the official name soon thereafter. The Hal Roach Rascals name also continued on into the early '30s, so the series had two names for about a decade. In 1938, Roach sold the series (lock, stock and barrel) to MGM, which had been distributing the series since 1927. MGM ended up with the cast and crew, the rights to the name Our Gang, and all of the films they had distributed previously. This last item was eventually bought back by Roach, but he had to redo the titles to remove the Our Gang name and any reference to MGM. A new series name was selected for this batch of films: Hal Roach's Little Rascals. The home movie and video prints of these films carried this name. The TV prints, which debuted in 1955 (after having run in theaters starting in 1950), were known simply as The Little Rascals. For the earliest films in the series, distributed by Pathé from 1922 to 1927, the Our Gang name was variously replaced by the Mischief Makers and Those Lovable Scallawags With Their Gangs. Other silent kid comedies also contributed to these two series. At no point were there ever any new episodes produced for TV (unless you count the animated versions). In essence, all of the episodes were repeats even on their first airing. The series was primarily syndicated, giving individual TV stations the ability to mix and match Little Rascals titles with other material, most often The Three Stooges, or the MGM Our Gang titles - the only Our Gang films that retained that name.moreless

    TELETOON (ended 2010)
6TEEN is an animated situation comedy for teens and tweens alike set entirely in a gigantic shopping mall! It's minimum wages and maximum laughs as we follow our ensemble cast of six sixteen-year-old friends trying to make it through their first part-time jobs and life as a teen. 6TEEN is about the important stuff – firsts (and all the ones that follow). First crushes, first jobs, first bank accounts and most importantly, that first taste of freedom… of course, not all firsts are positive. By the end of the first episode, Nikki finds herself stuck (in what she considers a sick twist of fate) working at The Khaki Barn, a store that she wouldn't be caught dead shopping in. Jen's scored her dream job at a sports shop, but her meat head ex-gym coach boss, Coach Halder, keeps throwing her in the penalty box for messing up. Jonesy manages to get his butt fired from his new job (and in every episode hereafter), Wyatt's hopelessly in love with his older co-worker, and Caitlin is forced to endure the daily humiliation of working in the lowest store in the mall's hierarchy of cool – The Big Squeeze, a giant lemon. No "most embarrassing moment" in these teens' lives will be left unturned, and at times it can seem like there's an evil boss, awful customer or "frienemy" around every corner. But through it all, our group of six best friends learn to lean on one another. From stumbling through relationships to dealing with hideous uniforms, the larger-than-life mall provides our characters with the perfect venue to spread their wings - and totally crash and burn trying. Theme Song: Life begins after school, That's when we bend all the rules. Time to hang with all my friends. We like to be together, In a place where we belong! I'm sixteen, starting to find my way. Got a new job, gonna start at the mall today. Thank God I'm on my own for the first time. I'm sixteen, life is sweet, When your growing up so fast. Gotta make the good times last! I'm sixteen, sixteen. Gotta make the good times last! Characters 'Jonsey' Garcia Jonsey's interests in life can be summed up in two words: hockey and chicks. He's a high school hockey star and your typical party-obsessed jock. He's the popular, good looking guy who gets invited to all the parties and who's probably going to peak in high school...unless he makes it into the NHL of course. Clutch under pressure, always willing to go for it, convinced it'll all work out okay. He's hilarious, outspoken, and totally confident that he's the man. Jonsey is unabashedly male and relentlessly girl-crazy...and no matter how bad things are or how hard he's shot down, he always maintains "the attitude". He is always coming up with new schemes - but they usually end up getting the group in trouble. He teases the guys for being wimps and is protective of the girls. Except for Nikki. Jonsey and Nikki love to spar (probably why they're soo great together). Jonsey likes chicks, parties, hockey, hot chicks, getting stuff free, chicks, taking chances, and hockey bunnies (chicks). He dislikes wimps, working at stores that chicks don't shop at, and losing games. He hopes to get a hockey scholarship - college has lots of college chicks...and dorm rooms. Heh heh. Then to play in the NHL. More chicks. Jonsey gets fired from a new job in every episode...let's just say he's not the most responsible cat in town. Note: From the show we learn that Jonsey has 2 younger brothers and that his parents are divorced. Also noted is that his Dad is newly married to Jen's Mom, and he now has a new baby sister!! Jen Masterson Jen is a hip, hot, tomboy who can beat almost any guy in almost any sport and is bound and determined to become a future Olympic champion. She's kind and fun with an edge, but her strongest personality trait is definitely her determination. Jen's mouth is often faster than her brain and she tends to blurt out the exact wrong thing at precisely the worst time. Jen is do-er, the go-getter, and an instigator. She is protective of all her friends but can be bossy when she gets on one of her "missions". While she's got the plans, Jonsey's got the scams...and both of them end up getting the group in just as much trouble. Jen's experience in sports makes her a natural born leader and coach, and she will often offer tips to Caitlin and the boys...even when they don't ask for her help. Jen likes teamwork, snowboarding, girls who rock at sports, taking dares and boy bands. She dislikes boys who think they're better than girls (at anything), stereotypes, cheerleaders, talking instead of doing. She's in constant cell phone contact with all her friends and likes to know everything that's happening as it's happening. She is known to ditch customers mid-sale to answer the phone. Jen's got boys following her around like drooling puppies but barely even notices. When she does go after a guy, she usually picks the wrong one. Jen works at the Penalty Box and she is desperate to make sure no one gets fired so she isn't stuck working there alone. Note: From the show we learn that Jen has 1 older sister and her Mom is newly married to Jonesy's Dad, plus she now has a new baby sister!! Nikki Wong Nikki is questioning and defiant with a punk rock edge, but beneath her tough exterior, Nikki isn't as tough as she seems. She's not cynical – just a "realist". A total original, Nikki loves to take clothes and custom-rip-them to make them her own and can't stand fashion sheep. Her deadpan sarcasm files right over the heads of her co-workers, who she's aptly named "The Clones". Nikki hates everything about mass consumerism, so she considers it a sick twist of fate that she's stuck working at The Khaki Barn, the most generic "don't think for yourself" store in the mall. In her words, "The Khaki Barn represents everything that is wrong with the world today." Unfortunately, The Khaki Barn was the only store that would take her. You could say she has a bad attitude when it comes to authority. She wouldn't be caught dead wearing anything The Khaki Barn sells, and DON'T expect her to be cheerful. Nikki doesn't take pop culture at face value and is not easily sucked into trends, which makes it such a funny reveal when we discover her closet love for the Boy Band, Dawg Toy. Her goal is to graduate, travel for a year, the settle down somewhere cool and break into the music industry as a A&R executive. Something far away from a suburban mall. For now, the mall provides her with ample targets for her razor-sharp wit and observations. Nikki's a "reality check" for her friends. She brings the loftier ones down to earth and puts the obnoxious ones in their place… but in a good way. She's always up for a good prank and likes to tease her friends good-naturedly. Nikki thinks Jonsey's an "idiot" but loves him anyway, and truly admires Wyatt's originality. Caitlin Cooke Sweet and optimistic - and TOTALLY used to getting her way, Caitlin gets good grades but isn't very street smart yet. Caitlin is a little sheltered and naive when it comes to things like dating, cruel intentions, and the fact that working at the mall isn't just one big social gathering. ("You mean I have to mop the floors? I so did not sign up for this.") She's vain but not conceited and is always doing sweet things for her friends. Even though she's spoiled, you can't help but love her. She can surprise you with her determination when she sets her mind to something, be it finding a new pair of pink clogs or taking Wyatt on a dating safari to show him how to act like a "mature male." Caitlin is girlie to the core and totally boy-crazy - unfortunately, every time a cute guy even LOOKS at her she does something incredibly embarrassing like walking into a wall. The ever hopeful cheerleader, Caitlin assumes things will work out because up until now, they always have. She elicits the group's protective instincts and loves to give dating advice. Caitlin is a new addition to the already-tight group of five. The only reason she's working at the mall instead of shopping here is because she maxed out her dad's credit card on a shopping spree and he, "like, totally freaked." In an effort to teach Caitlin the value of money, her parents insisted that she get a part-time job. So now she works at The Big Squeeze, which is brutal, but Caitlin figures if she can survive the humiliation of working in a giant lemon, she can probably survive anything. Caitlin hates her uniform so much that she never leaves the lemon with it on, doing a Superman-style quick change into her street clothes every time she leaves work. Caitlin is an only child from a family of two doctors and is the apple of her parents' eyes. She strives to prove herself to her parents and works off her credit card bill, yet stays on the job. It's not that bad... she's even gotten used to using the mop. But she STILL HATES THE HAT! Wyatt Williams Wyatt is an old soul. He sees house parties and making out in the movie theater as strictly "for the cretins." He's into more cultural endeavors: a new jazz band, spiritual awareness, a great documentary about gun control...he's very well read, mellow, and a great foil for Jonesy's adolescent hijinks. Wyatt has certain quirks that don't fit into the typical high school scene, but he does have one ace in the hole: he plays acoustic guitar and can play any song on request. Girls love guys who can play guitar and sing. Wyatt has a dry sense of humor that Nikki in particular appreciates. He's more intelligent and well read than his pals. The "smart" one who SHOULD be the first one to object to Jonesy's scams, Wyatt is easily talked into anything Jonesy proposes because deep down he admires Jonesy's confidence and strength. He knows he should stop taking Jonesy's advice on girls - but he can't help himself. Wyatt's love choices, from Serena to Marlowe, are often girls with whom (as Jonesy often puts it) he "hasn't got a chance with". Wyatt often writes down his observations with the goal of one day writing a book. His job is never high on the hierarchy of cool. Yet he doesn't mind being different or uncool. Deep down he knows that in a few years, when he's in college, he'll be the man. You'll find him playing his guitar in smoky coffee houses to bookish hot girls in big sweaters and glasses and finally, he'll be the cool one. It just won't be tomorrow, that's all - but he can wait. Jude Lizowski Jude is into living life large. If it's extreme, he's done it - or it's on his list. He has a pure, almost childlike outlook and seems to be in his own world, but has a totally solid inner logic that can make the others stop in their tracks and listen. Every once in a while, he comes up with the perfect solution to their problems. He's always positive and mellow, and his attitude is contagious. He's that perfect combination of cool, sweet, and mysteriously confident. Jude's pretty restless and often checks out of conversations because he's bored. You might say he's a bit of a space case or a little hyper-active (he was a nightmare to keep track of in kindergarten). Floating on his own cloud, riding his own melt, the only things he takes seriously are his friends and skateboarding. Jude thinks outside the box - and at times, outside the entire room. Take the time he decided to spread his girlfriend net a little farther and stop limiting himself, so he began dating a computer programmed easy chair with a female voice that he named "Betty." She's easy going, listens to him, and gives great massages - even his friends have to admit that it's hard to argue with that logic. He's the confidant - the one everyone trusts with their secrets...though ironically, Jude is REALLY bad at keeping secrets. The girls often come to him for advice about guys (because their other choices, Wyatt and Jonesy, are both hopeless). He is naturally laid back and everything is cool. Doesn't like it when people harsh on his mellow. Jude often ends up being his own boss (except at Underground and with the Zamboni) which is "totally sweeEET!! I can set my own hours!!"moreless

"What's With Andy?" is a cartoon series that's about the antics of a boy named Andy Larkin, his friend Danny Pickett, and the citizens of East Gackle who he is constantly tricking. He loves to have fun, and prank people. He's enemies with his sister Jen, and Peter Lik & Andrew Leech who are always forcing him to do things (or get beat up). He openly admits he's in love with Lori Mackney. One of these days he will pull enough pranks to get listed in the "World Record Books," but until then he'll have to face the music when pranks go wrong (which is pretty often with him).

"What's with Andy?" currently airs in Canada and Europe only. Check your local listings for channels, and times. Air times for TeleToon[Canada(est)]:Daily at 4:00am CHARACTERS

ANDY LARKIN: The star of the show who is obsessed with pranks. An "artist of pranks", he loves the sheer thrill of pulling practical jokes on everyone in his small town, including the mayor! Pranking aside, he is a very normal teenager who is interested in a certain girl at his school along with giving his sister a hard time and hanging out with his best bud.

JEN LARKIN: Andy's big sister (by two years) who attends the same school. With her attractive looks and intelligence, she is very active and popular at school. A strong participant, competitor and winner at many things- cheerleading (she's the captain), student council (she's the president), etc. The only stain on her shiny plate is... of course, her pest brother!

AL and FREIDA LARKIN: Parents of Andy and Jen. Al was a prankster when he was younger so Andy is a chip off the ol' block! While Al has mellowed out by maturity and sense of responsibility, he often indulges Andy's antics in order to teach the boy a lesson. Freida is the 'psychologist' of the family; she reads on child psychology books in an attempt to understand her kids (especially Andy). She is a pillar of the community, very involved in committees and fundraising.

DANNY PICKETT: A very loyal best friend and partner-in-crime of Andy, Danny is the perfect sidekick. He seems to know and anticipates what Andy is thinking or doing. Danny is often the voice of reality and caution for Andy.

LORI MACKNEY: The girl of Andy's dreams- she's cute and smart. Andy has publicly professed his crush on her although she seems just a bit put-off by Andy's unsatiable desire for pranking. Lori has told Andy that she considers him "cute" (to his delight) which is a sign that she secretly likes him back.

PETER LIK and ANDREW LEECH: 'Lik' and 'Leech' as they are called at school, are typical second-rate school bullies. Andy is their victim, but then again Lik and Leech are usually victims of Andy's pranks! Lik is the punk with the purple hair and is the leader of the two. Leech is the shorter and ugly one.

CRAIG BENETT: The jock of the school- handsome and strong (can be gullible sometimes). Jen thinks he's the coolest. Andy doesn't think so! Whenever Andy gets the chance, he makes sure that Craig is at the receiving part of his pranks.

TERI: Jen's friend and fellow cheerleader.

MARTIN BONWICK: A naive nerd and the hapless victim of almost everyone's, especially Andy's.

JERVIS COLTRANE: Height-challenged but a strong challenger against Andy for Lori's heart.

PRINCIPAL DEROSA: Principal of Andy's school. Very strict, unforgiving and easy to jump to conclusions. He's constantly suspicious of Andy but thinks Jen is the greatest.

VICTOR MUSHKOWITZ: Know as 'Mush', is a cool pizza delivery guy who appears in a few episodes, usually helping Andy with one of his pranks.moreless

He minds his own business; he's just trying to do his own thing without stepping on anybody else's toes. But his absolute lack of exposure to "ordinary life" gives him the pretext and the perspective To be curious about everything...and a reason for being befuddled by it all. Rock Zilla: The Dad. Middle aged ("says who?!") but fit and exuberant, Rock is torn between his attempts to remain a pop music icon symbolizing youth and father to a wife and two kids he's crazy about. Larger than life, and twice as outrageous, Rock tries to be a "normal" parent for Willy. But his attempts to fit in to the day-to-day routine of Silent Springs are about as subtle as a power chord blasted through a Marshall stack. Crystal Zilla: The Mom. A former model, Crystal looks younger than her years. An L.A. style New Ager. In other words, she's a nutritionally and spiritually conscious woman, but not a hippie Earth Mama; she likes her platinum Visa card as much as her Tarot cards, and her Gucci as much as Granola. Which isn't surprising, for someone born in the Chinese year of the D- hey, wait a minute, you could figure out her age from that, so forget it! Serenity Zilla: Willy's 16 year-old sister. A spoiled, bossy, sarcastic "princess". In the same way that Willy's situation makes him a heightened-reality version of a tween, Serenity's privileged position, her vanity, self-absorption, and domineering personality make her the heightened-reality version of the real-life older sister that every younger dreads. Although she can on occasion be affectionate and familial, she is too spoiled to be able to keep her narcissism in check for long, and remains focused exclusively on herself. Mosh: A stage prop who ended up becoming the family pet. Mosh's story is that he was supposed to be a giant menacing iguana ordered for Reptillian's stage show. But when Rock opened the shipping container, he found instead a large but very docile reptile of intermediate and dubious origin. Too cute and mushy to be a menacing rock 'n' roll stage prop, Mosh was supposed to be shipped back to wherever he came from. But in the end, nobody had the heart to send him away. Skunk: A roadie of indeterminate age. Younger than Stonehedge, but older than just about anyone else on the show. Claims to have once had a job as a gargoyle at the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. And it may be true. He's seen it all -- and done most of it too. Rock's trusted lieutenant and chief roadie, he kept the Reptillian circus ticking along smoothly for longer than anyone can remember, and has been in the business so many years, he's reputed to have got his start as a young lad, looking after wah-wah pedals for Jimi Hendrix. Alissa: One of Willy's pals, whom he befriends in the first episode. A funny, quick-witted, plainspoken Janeane Garofalo type with the human observational skills of a sociologist and the timing of a stand-up comedian. Another fish out of water by virtue of being a bright girl who doesn't try to hide it, an original thinker who sees the world with unusual clarity. Her aim is true and she is intimidated by no one. Quincy: Willy's other best friend. And not surprisingly, Quincey is - guess what - another fish out of water type. Vaguely Afro-something, he admires black sports and music icons, especially his idol of idols, Jimi Hendrix (who just happens to be one of Rock's heroes too). But "Q" has a hard time making the pieces fit together, having been raised in a mainly white, middle-class neighborhood in a small city, by parents who are loving but conservative and straight-laced. Bobby "Buzz" Sawchuck: Willy's nemesis. The class bully, and as Willy puts it, "the most annoying kid on the planet. Make that the solar system." A year older than Willy and his friends, having flunked a year of school (rumor has it he has to repeat Kindergarten). A big-mouthed, brazen blowhole of a kid without a gram of real courage in his body, and with a tenuous self-identity.moreless
