What's all the racket in this guide? It's just a unique classroom, Ms. Principal. Puppeteer Tim Gosley talks of his days on Iris the Happy Professor as being part of a "secret fraternity," and there is some truth in that. Iris the Happy Professor, after a two-year run on TLC, went into hiding, waiting for broadminded, independent public television stations to find it (see below). Fielding some of the talent that enlightened Fraggle Rock, Henri Desclez produced this offbeat educational series for young viewers. It was an interesting class: PROFESSOR IRIS was, by all looks of things, an ibis with oversized bow tie, magic teaching stick (with which images appeared on his chalkboard), and the uncanny knack to explain away any difficult situations. SKELETON got his name from the shirt with the bones on it. He was one to go into the classroom closet to fetch anything that would aid the educational cause. PIANO was a falsetto male, often the most excited student. PLANT was the simplest of the students, but he could always come in at the right time with the right answer. MS. PRINCIPAL walked in at various times during the lesson to wonder "What's all the racket in here today?" Originally, Iris the Happy Professor was produced for TLC in 1992-94, then promptly disappeared. Fortunately, WYBE in Philadelphia picked up Iris on Labor Day, Sept. 2, 2002. Since that day, WYBE has aired Iris the Happy Professor in English (Mondays at 8:30 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.), immediately followed by the same lesson with clearer French soundtracks! Listen to Iris le gentil professeur, clear as a bell, on WYBE Mondays at 8:45 A.M. and 4:15 P.M. SCN of Saskatchewan also runs Iris the Happy Professor, but in English only. That's all for today. Bye-de-bye!moreless

Ever sit in a friend or relative's home and wish you could strip or paint the walls, take up the floor, sew and replace fabric on the couch or chairs? Then this show is for you! Trading Spaces: Family is a design show based on the British series Changing Rooms. The shows takes two sets of neighbors, and they switch one room in each other's home. They are assigned a designer, and given a $1,000 budget... and they only have two days to completely redesign their neighbor's room. They are not allowed back in to their own rooms until the two days are up. At the end of each episode, the host sits down to talk with the designers about the room they just finished. Then, the host takes the owners into their rooms, with their eyes closed, and reveals the room to them. Will they like the design? Will they hate them? Will they get rid of the design... Or their neighbors? In Trading Spaces: Family, they add a twist. It's not just neighbors trading spaces anymore; it's families. Teams consist of 3-5 family members, and at least one of them must be a tween (9-12 years old) or a teen.moreless
