One milennium ago in Japan, there were people called Toujinshi who could control Shikigami. The Toujinshi were split into two factions: the Ten-ryuu and the Chi-Ryuu. These two colonies of people ended up fighting a great war. But eventually the Ten-ryuu and Chi-ryuu fell impoverished. A long time has passed since then, and the awakening of a young Toujinshi has led to the revitalization of the battle between the Ten-ryuu and the Chi-ryuu. In the present time, Riku Tachibana has always been taught by his grandfather to perform odd hand gestures. It was to the point where Riku does those hand moves almost subconsciously. Eventually, he discovers the true meaning behind that odd custom. Riku now fights as a Toujinshi of the Ten-ryuu with the Shikigami, Byakko no Kogenta, and the battles he will face will determine the fate of Japan. A technique utilizing the earth's powers to consult the stars or conduct divination. Exorcising ghosts and demons was also one purpose of Onmyou DOu. Toujinshi: Practitioners who gain the ability of Shikigami enslavement by making a contract with Shikigami. In the beginning, the objective was to protect people from Youkai and evil spirits, but the Toujinshi began a dispute amongst themselves over their respective goals. Shikigami: Wild, fearsome gods who can communicate through the Drive and fight with Toujinshi as partners under contract. Divided into 24 tribes which adhere the end of the 24 seasons (or Sekki) that show the change of the seasons, each one symbolizes various meanings: "Destiny," "Trust," "Willpower, "Divine Protection," and so on. Each Shikigami also has an affinity with one of the Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Gold, and Water. The Five Elements greatly affects battle between Shikigami. In: Sign/Seal that the Toujinshi make with their Drive to transmit offensive techniques to the Shikigami. If there is no inout of In, then the Shikigami will not be able to fight effectively. Also, it's not always the case that the Toujinshi know the In from the beginning. One can also say that memorizing new In will make one become stronger. Hissatsu: A sure-kill technique that a Shikigami can use. Drive: The Onmyou Dou's "top secret" Shikigami enslavement (the calling forth of Shikigami and commanding them) machine. Toujinshi use them to break Ins for Shikigami to fight with Hissatsu attacks. Shikigami also reside in the Drive when they are not in battle. The earlier model of the Drive is called Toujinki, which is rounder than the Drive. Toujinshi who use Toujinki also seem to be required to use more Drive moves (e.g. Kon, Ken, Son, and Gon) than those who use the modern Drives. Toujinfu: Fu (Seals) that the Toujinshi use. Many Fu are used as support in battle, but there are also Fu that call forth Shikigami. They also build up Toujinshi's Ki energy when they use Toujinfu. Ryuuhashou: A sign that Toujinshi wear to indicate what faction (Ten or Chi) they are affiliated with. It also indicates their rank (from 1 to 8) within their faction. Drive Moves: Shin - East Kan - North Da - West Ri - South Ken - Northwest Kon - Southwest Gon - Northeast Son - Southeastmoreless
