The show follows the adventures of Rikuo Nura (voiced by Jun Fukuyama), a supposedly normal Japanese junior high school student living in Ukiyoe Town. Unbeknownst to the rest of his classmates, Rikuo is the grandson of Nuraihyon, the Master Commander of all spirits, and is a quarter yokai blood. Because of this, Rikuo lives in a traditional Japanese-style mansion full of yokai servants who serve the Nura clan, which symbolizes "fear." Rikuo's task is to become the Third Heir of the Nura clan, but his naturally human and weaker nature does not wish to comply with this. Rikuo's yokai blood allows him to change into a strong, fear-inspiring yokai form during the night. Other yokai clans challenge the Nura clan often and he must lead the fights to protect it.
