Ive read on other sites that people think John shows no emotion.. for example when Omar's daughter and grandson came in he showed nothing of what he was feeling.. I think after 400 years and 63 children etc and seeing them die off that could turn anyone cold.. maybe he cant feel attachment.. It seems the only child he has kept contact with over the course of a lifetime is Omar ( and maybe his secretary who may or maynot have been his daughter when he met Omar's mother) At any rate outliveing all your children would be hard...

No emotion shown is really pushing it!
I agree on the point about living
such a long time and seeing and knowing of death!
In some episodes, he is greatly
    affected by situations and others
    maybe not so!

I have friends who are doctors and
have seen so many cases where the odds are extremely minimal to zero
    that their patients will survive!
Yes, there are some miracles but
    not a lot!
Like our main character, that doesn't mean my doctor friends don't care!

He has some emotion. He has probably gone throught every emotion and situation in his 400 years. It must be hard to feel too much giving his situation.

I understand the complaint actually and now that I think back. The guy tends not to show a whole lot of emotion but that's still alright with me but I could see how that would bother some people. It's not a big deal though. The main complaints seem to be that all of the other characters' developments are terrible and that the story tends to focus solely on John's problems and when it does try to focus on someone else, it kinda sucks.
