The ferris wheel that we see John take a ride with Andy is called The Wonder Wheel. Opening in 1920, it stands 150 feet tall and holds 144 riders. It is one of three rides at Coney Island that are protected as designated NYC landmarks.
A good deal of this episode takes place at Coney Island, located in southernmost Brooklyn, NYC. Between about 1880 and the late 1930's, Coney Island was the largest amusement area in the United States
John mentions seeing "The greatest game ever played" when talking to a suspect at the beginning scene. This refers to the 1958 NFL Championship game between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Giants. This game was significant because it marked the beginning of the NFL's popularity surge, mainly because it was broadcast across the US on NBC. It was the first NFL game to go into sudden death overtime.
We find out that John joined the NYPD in 2002 in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy.
In this episode, we learn that John Amsterdam has a fear of heights.
Andy: Let's get the opening gambit out of the way. Look at your John, you never change. OK, your turn.
John: You look good. Losing weight?
Andy: (chuckles) Funny. The leukemia diet, end stage. Strict but effective.
Andy: You get to solve a murder for me.
John: Murder, what murder?
Andy: Mine. My murder.
Andy: Doesn't matter how many (partners) you have, you never forget your first.
John: It's true.
Eva: I certainly won't.
Andy: They said you were young. You don't look so young.
John: I got a late start.
Eva: You really are friends.
John: You sound surprised.
Eva: It gives me hope.
Omar: Like the man said, everybody wants to go to Heaven but nobody wants to die.
Viktor Brodsky: You a family man?
John: You've got no idea.
John: If you hadn't saved me, they would have taken my wallet, my car keys.
Sara: Saved you, hmmm. I like the sound of that.
Nazir: It is not proper for woman to be alone with man who is not blood relative or husband.
Eva: Don't think of me as a woman.
Nazir: That would be hard. I can smell your perfume.
Eva: Oh, don't think about that. Think of me as a police officer. Think of me as a person who's sending you back to prison.
Andy: Everybody thinks I have both feet in the ground, instead of one.
Eva: CSU's on their way.
John: I remember when there was no CSU.
Eva: Of course you do.
Santori: My worse nightmare, a cop in prison.
Eva: The gift that keeps on giving.
