What did you think of the series finale?  I thought it was brilliant and definitely one of the best, if not best, ways to ever end a series.

Agreed. The show, itself was typical Newhart fare but the last few minutes will go down as one of the BEST scenes in television history. TV Land voted it the #1 most surprising moment in television. I still have it saved on VHS from when I taped it during its original run.

I liked it a lot...but I thought it was a bit crazy....Yet when I found out the whole episode was a dream, I felt better. But to find out the whole SERIES was a dream---that was sheer brilliance. When Bob woke up with Suzanne Pleshett (sorry if I spelled that wrong) I was shocked--- perfect closing scene!

The whole series was good, and this was the perfect ending for it. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't this considered the best series finale of all time?

With the possible exception of MASH, Newhart was the best finale of all time. But now, I think that the most infamous, if not best, series finale is The Sopranos.

I remember thinking it was brilliant at the time then, years later, hearing that Mary Frann supposedly felt insulted by it, I was somewhat saddened at that detail. If true, I can take her point, but, it was very very clever.
