  • Dick tries to get the Inn historic recognition and a plaque as an historic landmark. He gets everyone excited about it except for Joanna who says it's not important.

    7.5
Not an improvement on the last few episodes. Dick goes all out to get The Stratford recognized as a Historical Landmark and then when the two people from the inspection committee show up he acts like a crazed lunatic including whistling Yankee Doodle Dandy when showing the inspectors around.

Of course the Inn is turned down for the recognition and Dick goes into a huge depression. He doesn't leave his office for three days and there is suppose to be this funny bit where he is watching his favorite show with an earpiece and when Joanna pulls the earpiece out you here the music to The Bob Newhart Show. Clever! He explains to Joanna as a child his trip to the circus was ruined because there were no tigers as promised. So he was upset and still remembered that years later. He uses this analogy for the Inn and how it has lost its charm to him.

After almost scarring away a young couple from staying at the Inn he disappears for a few hours and comes back with a who cares mentality making everything alright. Sort of strange but I guess it works on some level. I just can't find the level? As I stated not an overly funny episode. Newhart can be fall over laugh funny in some cases. Somehow they are missing the mark in these last few episodes. Thanks for reading...moreless
  • No Tigers at the Circus, but still a funny episode

    8.8
I just started watching Newhart a few days ago and so far I have only seen the first ten episodes. I choose to do it on this one because I think it was a big change from the first 5 I saw. The characters already are known for something so in this episode they are just emphasizing there strengths. One of the best scenes in the episode is when The inspectors from the landmark says it is a nice place but they can't approve it as a landmark and his wife says well it's not the end of the world and he yells get out.moreless
