NHL Conference Finals

Show Summary

NHL Conference Finals are the Eastern and Western Conference Finals in the National Hockey League. Each series is a best of seven series. The winner of these two games which are played in May each year goes on to play in the Stanley Cup. The NHL had only one conference, but in 1967 the League split into the Eastern and Western Conferences. After several changes and reorganizations, the modern National Hockey League took shape in the 1982-1983 season. The Eastern Conference is known as the Prince of Wales Conference and the Western Conference is known as the Clarence Campbell Conference. The Detroit Redwings and the Philadelphia Flyers are both two consistently strong teams who have made the conference finals many times. The only time there wasn't a conference finals was the 2004-2005 season when there was a lockout. In the 2007 Eastern Conference Playoffs Ottawa faced Buffalo. The champion, Ottowa, won in five games but did not win the Stanley Cup. In the Western Conference Anaheim faced Detroit with Anaheim winning in six games, then winning the Stanley Cup.moreless
