In 1987, Nickelodeon created the first national poll of kids' choices for their favorites in pop culture. This grew into Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards. Every year the event continues to grow with the media dubbing the event the "mini-Oscars". In 2006, more than 25 million kids cast their ballots.
