  • Mr. Bullivant guarantees to get escaping criminals out of the country - but he doesn't say in what form...

    7.0
A very brief episode in which a gangster who has murdered several people (including a child) during a $250,000 bank robbery tries to get out of the country with the help of a slightly mysterious exporter. Old Mr. Bullivant seems a nice old guy, proud of his 47 years of providing a service to the underworld; we fear that the twitchy, nasty hoodlum (somewhat over-acted by Bobby Darin) might kill him before fleeing to South America. But Bullivant's a businessman - and tougher than he seems. Jack Albertson's usual air of affable, avuncular solicitude makes the closing moments of this predictable but quite satisfying tale all the more effective.moreless

    • Host: Here we have a cameo dandy. Problem: how to flee the coop. How to make tracks away from the police and unhappy peers. Ship out to safer climes. The story of a chap, who, if he had it to do over again, would have remained where he was. He finds out that he is precisely what is the title of the picture, Dead Weight.

    • Bullivant: Two bank guards, one teller, and a six-year-old child. I suppose the child was necessary?
Landau: He got in the way of a bullet. What was I supposed to do, whistle it back? There was lead flying all over the place. Besides, what was a kid his age doing on the street at ten o'clock in the morning? Why wasn't he in school where he belonged? Why wasn't he in school?
Bullivant: Well, I guess that'll teach the little rascal not to play hooky.
