  • Looks like a splice job

    4.5
The introductory scenes of the white explorer and woman doctor in ?Africa? appear to be from a fifties movie or TV show. Except for Brock Peters and the old woman, the tribe isn't even black.
  • An American anthropologist has gone missing in an African jungle. Is he dead - and, if so, what's killed him?

    6.0
It's not a little sad to see the mighty Brock Peters speaking in broken English in the role of an African witch-doctor, and modern viewers may wonder about political correctness; still, this story is finished swiftly (under a quarter of an hour) and has a few moments of genuine disquiet. Logoda's collection of shrunken heads is quite impressively nasty and the last shot - when we notice that the heads now have teeth bared (and bloodstained) - is most effective. It also makes a pleasant change to find that the British character is the one who shows sensitivity and consideration towards African village life and culture, whilst the visiting American is crude and insulting.moreless

    • Host: Item number three You'll probably recognize this quaint figurine. The dead eyes, the sewn lips. The kind of thing that usually infests nightmares. And that happens to be precisely what it is. A nightmare of the first order. Its title: Logoda's Heads.

    • Major Crosby: People die in Africa just like they die all over the world. The only difference here is that they don't always bury them.

    • Kyro: I have avenged your brother in my own way. I knew Logoda could make the heads speak. But my magic is stronger. You see... I know how to make them kill.

  • NOTES (2)

    • To pad this 13-minute episode out to 30 in syndication, footage of an unrelated jungle movie is incorporated. Additional voiceover work is provided by Tim Matheson, and reaction shots of Brock Peters and Denise Nicholas are spliced in. Since there is a female doctor, named Irene Winston in the voiceover, in the movie footage, we find out who the leader of the expedition was. Once the episode itself begins, there is additional voiceover work to make it appear that Henley is mentioning Irene's name in dialogue.

    • This episode is based on the short story "Logoda's Heads" by August Derleth. This story was first published in Strange Stories (April 1939).
