  • A naive nurse is manipulated by her wealthy patient into killing his faithless, much younger wife.

It's fascinating to see Diane Keaton right at the start of her acting career in this cunningly-scripted segment. She had done "Hair" and "Play It Again, Sam" on Broadway; she also made her film debut at around this time in "Lovers And Other Strangers". Here, cast as a slightly ditzy nurse with too quick a temper, she works extremely well with veteran character actor Joseph Wiseman. Playing a rich old invalid saddled with an avaricious trophy wife, Wiseman gives a fine, clever performance - you feel sorry for this unhappy man, but you're only too aware that he can run rings around everyone else, even from his sickbed. The conclusion has a chilling inevitability.moreless
