Though I'm huge fan of this genre of TV and enjoy several of the Night Gallery episodes, there are more than a few bad ones... So, it's saying a lot that I think this one wins for worst. Many of the same shots are used over and over to pad this episode to 30 minutes. Then there's the cacophony of music, construction, dinosaurs, dogs, cats, door alarms, and other annoying sounds that destroy any possibility of intriguing atmosphere. I'm sorry Rod's name is associated with this one.
The original story by Donald Wandrei was written in the 1930s, and a Depression-era setting might have worked better for this tale of poor people getting their own back on a ruthless exploiter. Zsa Zsa Gabor - so unusual to see her actually acting! - is very effective as the tough-as-nails proprietress of a thrift shop with no time for her desperately poor customers, or, for that matter, for the kindly partner whom she's forcing out of the business (and into penury). When the paint on the painted mirror is scratched off, another world beckons - and Zsa Zsa is fool enough to venture into it. Devotees will recognise some footage from the 1960 movie "The Lost World" to represent this lost world - and its denizens.
