Tom: A police station shutting down is an event that always inspires a reaction. For the public, the reaction is fear. They realize the familiar beat cop is no longer just around the corner. For the police, it's another stumbling block in their attempt to stem the wave of crime that's washing over our cities. For the faceless bureaucrat who makes the decision, his budget may look that much closer to balancing, but when the real cost is added up it's society, all of us, who pay.
Colby: Is he the torch?
Kevin: Yeah, he looks good for it. Found enough gas cans in the truck of his car that he could start his own filling station.
Freddie: So did he have a motive or does he just like to watch the fire engines go by?
(talking about Christine Meadows)
Lt. Hogan: She works here for one reason and one reason alone, because she gets her business done like everyone else.
Lt. Hogan: Detective Meadows put herself on the line just like all the other dedicated cops around mid-South since day one. You can quote me on that.
Terry Hammer: Thanks, Lieutenant, I intend to.
Tom: Crisis isn't all bad, it's a time to reassess, a time to gain a new appreciation for what we all too often take for granted. The Mid South crisis will blow over like so many in the past, but in the meantime it's given the people who work there pause to consider what they mean to each other and to the public at large. Buildings may change, bureaucrats may come and go, but the spirit of Mid-South will always walk these mean streets.
