      • (opening commentary)
Tom: I haven't seen Marcel in years; comes all the way from Paris, but not to see me. He's a newspaper man looking to do a story on the supercops I've been telling him about. He asks me to use my influence. So this is where I take him. Welcome to the disposable society, Marcel. We throw away razors, napkins, bottles, cans. You name it, we trash it.

      • Joey: I'm through betting, OK?
Whitey: Oh you're... (to everyone in the restaurant) He's through betting.
Joey: What do you want from me, an affidavit?
Whitey: Don't give me that attitude man - I still have the last one, OK? I've got a box full of them.

      • Kevin: This is my partner Frank Giambione. This is friend of Tommy's from Paris, a journalist, Marcel LeBlanc.
Frank: (shakes Marcel's hand) Oh, from Paris. They make great chocolates there! Listen, any friend of Tommy's will be looked at very suspiciously!
Marcel: I am purely a spectator, I assure you.
Tom: Well, what can we show him? New world homicide at it's best?
Kevin: Well, there is not a mark on her.
Marcel: You are assuming homicide nonetheless, n'est ce pas?
Kevin: We are assuming nothing until we find out what killed her.

      • (closing commentary)
Tom: He scanned the airwaves for messages not meant for him. He cruised the city streets, lived alone, died alone, killed without touching. He came and went like a disease, a strange, impersonal force taking lives, reminding us that in the last analysis, we never really understand.
