      • (opening commentary)
Tom: All over the world children run in alleys, hide in stairs or under the lattices of board porches. Games and dreams. And maybe those children are poor, maybe they're oppressed, but they have games and dreams and maybe they're lucky enough to get out, to make it to a country like this, a place like this, a stop along the way to a better life. The deadly irony of this alley is the end of a life that officially didn't exist. No games, no dreams.

      • Frank: Was she legal or illegal?
Landlord: What do I care, legal or illegal. What am I, Immigration?
Frank: Did she have family, ah, friends?
        Landlord: Aah.
Frank: All right, the phone was ringing, right?
Landlord: You got him up the stairs, you got the door knocking, you got the door breaks. Knock, knock.
        Frank: Who's there?
Tom: (opening commentary continued): No one there. No name, no country, no voice. Black skin and blue silk. When she passed us in the daylight, we didn't know she was there. When she died in an alley at night, we stop to look. Where did she come from? (looks up at apartment building from where she fell) Somewhere up there.

      • (checking out the stove top at the crime scene)
Colby: Ginger, curry and hot peppers.
        Kevin: Irish, I guess.
        Colby: West Indian Irish!

      • (closing commentary)
Tom: A beginning, a middle and an end; that's how we tell stories, how we write plays. It's how we think of our lives, at least other people's lives. When we look at our own lives, we see a jumble of events with beginnings, yes, but with no clear endings. A clear end? Really? For who?
