    • QUOTES (4)

      • (opening commentary)
Tom: There's nothing like a disaster to bring out the worst in everybody. When I was a kid we had a photographer on the paper who always carried a teddy bear in his car. Kid's hit by a truck so he throws the bear next to the blood on the street and gets his picture. I can't help it, I always think about him when something like this happens. My job is to write down what I see, some guys have to get right in the middle.

      • Tom: Hey hot shots.
Kevin: Hey Tom. How you doing?
Tom: Not bad. What have you got?
Kevin: I don't know the dead guy; the other one's Calvin James.
        Tom: Busted him before?
Kevin: Hasn't everyone? Penny ante stuff though up til now he's never used more than a popgun.
Frank: All of a sudden he thinks he's Little Caesar.
Tom: Ah, it's the latest style - stick up man as guerrilla warrior.

      • Booker: So you got a warrant, right? I want to see the warrant. Come on.
Kevin: I'm going to make your life hell for you, Booker. Do you think I need a warrant for that? I don't need a warrant.
        Booker: I know my rights.
Kevin: Listen to me, Booker. That gun that you sold Calvin James killed an innocent woman last night and her little boy was standing right beside her, so don't tell me about rights. We are not in court, we are here (Booker's apartment). And right here your rights don't count for squat.

      • (closing commentary)
Tom: Suspected gun dealer Kyle Booker was shot and killed early this morning when he attempted to gun down Detective Kevin O'Brien of the Major Case Squad. Also netted in the investigation was a case of automatic rifles stolen from the army five days ago, and a 9mm handgun.

In an unrelated development two men, so far unidentified, were found shot to death on a waterfront parking lot last night. The police have been unable to locate a mysterious witness who may have photographed the incident from a charter boat in the harbor.
