      • (opening commentary)
Tom: I used to think the hardest part about the newspaper business was finding the right words; turns out that gets easier as you go along. What gets harder is the thing that was the easiest in the beginning: finding something to write about. When you're staring a deadline in the face, you'll grab at anything: a cat in a tree, a stick-up...

      • (Kevin sticks his foot out from under the sink at Nicole's and trips Tom)
Tom: That's some surly plumber you've got there.
        Nicole: Yeah, but he's cheap.
Kevin: You haven't got the bill yet.

      • Spider Connors: I never left my room last night O'Brien. Ask, they'll (fellow senior citizens in the old folks home) tell you.
Kevin: How would any of them know?
Spider Connors: Well, five years ago maybe. My wall climbing days are over. Anyhow, you busted me once. Nobody's lucky twice in one lifetime.
Kevin: This is Tom Kirkwood. He wants to ask you a few questions.
Spider Connors: I never answered questions when I knew the answers. Why should I start now?
        Tom: Well, I'm not a cop. I'm a reporter.
        Kevin: And I'm leaving.
        Spider Connors: Good
Kevin: (to Tom) Keep your hand on your wallet.
Spider Connors: I never touch the small stuff. You know that.

      • Tom: Where's Kevin?
Frank: Oh hi, Tom. He's out on a case.
        Tom: That jewelry thing?
        Frank: Mmhmm. With Linda Peters.
Tom: Are you serious? Linda Peters? What the hell is she doing here?
Frank: She works for the insurance company. I always thought she was something that Kevin made up.
Tom: No. No. Five years ago. Boy, they were some team.
Frank: You talking about on the job?
Tom: On the job, off the job. If you were a little older Frank, I could tell you some stories that would ...
Frank: (laughs) Forget it. So why'd she leave?
Tom: Ah, she just did. Why don't you ask your partner?
Frank: She was a pretty good cop. Is that true?
        Tom: Ask your partner.

      • Tom: What's the matter?
        Nicole: Nothing.
Tom: Nothing wouldn't be someone called Linda Peters would it?
Nicole: Oh Tom, get off my case.
Tom: She certainly has a habit of rubbing people the wrong way.
Nicole: Is there any other way she could rub someone?
        Tom: Oooh.
Nicole: Sorry, I shouldn't have said that.
Tom: No, no, no. That was a good line. Not nice, but a good line.
Nicole: I just don't like her very much, that's all.

      • (closing commentary)
Tom: There's a lot of ways to complicate your life, and a lady who wants a sailboat in Tahiti is got to be near the top of the list. She had her own way of getting there too - short cuts. And she wanted you to help, you didn't then. So what do you do now cowboy? She's still got her dreams of white sails against the blue water - and for short cuts - she needs your help again. This time you'd give anything, if only you could forget, for a little while, what your life's about. Stuff dreams are made of.

A brief moment of glory ended last night for Denny Carter and Joey Angelo when they were apprehended with a million dollar statue stolen from a local jeweler. Although the statue was not in their possession at the time of the arrest it was later recovered by Kevin O'Brien of The Major Case Squad. In a press statement Detective O'Brien said he is certain the two were working alone. No further arrests are anticipated in the case.
