Episode Summary

EDIT
The Victim
AIRED:
Sally Koretski is a young woman who has never recovered from a brutal rape and attempted murder. Three years after the attack, when she is an alcoholic and the shell of the person she was, she is shocked to see her attacker Jake Windsor, who received a 15 year sentence, in a grocery store. She attacks and wounds him with her cane and only Kevin can calm her down. Sally is convinced that Windsor is responsible for a recent vicious rape and murder on the North Side and is terrified that he will come after her again. Her story gains credibility when she gives police details of the North Side crime that were not made public. Standing in the way of the investigation is Thomas Penman, the administrator of an early release program called Self Start. Windsor is Penman's poster child for the program and he is determined to stop Kevin from doing anything to jeopardize his success story.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (4)

  • QUOTES (3)

    • (opening commentary)
Tom: She was one of those pathetic creatures we avoid on the street, walk quickly past shaking our heads feeling pity or disgust, and sometimes, deep down, a self-satisfied tingle of superiority. How many of us would look beyond the surface, beyond the haunted expression and the smell of cheap liquor to ask how a young woman named Sally Koretski came to be like this?

    • Thomas Penman: I don't think your fishing expedition is a very good idea, Detective.
Frank: That all depends on what we catch.

    • (closing commentary)
Tom: Sally Koretski had her dreams shattered by a moment of violence and when she cried out for justice, she received instead the dry promises of a faceless system. But Sally Koretski was luckier and stronger than most. In the end, she stood up alone against her terror and laid it to rest forever.

  • NOTES (2)

    • Although Shawn Thompson's character is referred to throughout the show as Jake Windsor, he is credited as Jack Windsor.

    • In the opening scene, a TV feature is playing in the background. The reporter's first words are "Our personality of the week is Sonny Grosso, the detective whose famous drug bust became known as the French Connection ...".
Sonny Grosso is the Executive Producer of Night Heat and is a former New York City police officer whose experiences became the basis of the 1971 movie The French Connection.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)
