This story is told mostly through the eyes of Julia, a teenage girl on vacation with her domineering mother, apathetic father and manipulative little brother. Julia has mostly negative things to say about her family, as heard in voiceovers that are revealed to be entries she makes into her tape recorder. Her only comfort from her nightmarish life is the handyman who is always workingaround the house. When Julia tries to talk to him, she becomes convinced that he is a ghost. Her mother doesn't believe her, her father goes along with Mom and her brother doesn't believe her probably just to spite her. This episode ends on a very surprising and devastating revelation. Julia's final decision regarding what she has learned disappointed me very much. It just seemed like giving up to me. As I write this review, I am reminded of M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense. Also, it shows an example of how families shouldn't be.A pretty good episode and an obvious favorite of minefrom this series.moreless

    • Julia: (voiceover) Dad. He's like an echo, a tiny, pathetic reflection of whatever Mother says. Maybe that's why she married him. He says he bought this house to give us a place to get away. Sometimes, I think what he really wanted to get away from was us.

    • Host: Next time you think you hate your life, remember this: happiness is nine-tenths perception, one-tenth reality.

    • Host: A girl's first crush can be magical. But as Julia is about to learn, magic is a short step from horror.

    • Julia: Lately, I can't even look at my mother without wanting to stab her... repeatedly. A girl on some old TV said that once. Referencing My So-Called Life (1994–1995). The series, created by Winnie Holzman, follows the exploits of an angst-ridden 15-year-old teenager named Angela Chase (Claire Danes).
