Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation

Show Summary

The Next Mutation was a live-action spin-off of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Saban. The most famous (and most controversial) thing about this show was that it introduced a fifth mutant turtle called Venus de Milo, the TMNT's long lost sister. Set after the events of the three movies, it turns out there was five turtles originally, but after comming into contact with the mutagen they were seperated; Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo were found by Splinter, Venus was found by a Shinobi master called Chung I. Chung I took Venus to China where he taught her the way of the Shinobi. Finally reunited after seventeen years, the turtles must face a new threat: The Dragon Lord, the brutal dictator of the natorious army of dragons known as The Rank. As with the original animated series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the word Ninja was replaced with Hero in the UK, hence Hero Turtles: The Next Mutation. And as the nunchakus (Michelangelo's weapon of choice) were banned in the UK, Mike's chuks were replaced with twin Tonfas. Of course Mike gave his nunchakus to Mitsu at the end of the third movie, perhaps he picked the Tonfa as a replacement... A lot of people don't realize this, but TNM would probably still be airing today, the show only ran for one Season, but there were plans for Season 2. While Season 1 was to welcome Venus into the TMNT Universe, Season 2 was to welcome back April O'Neil, Casey Jones and The Rat King. They're the only confirmed characters, but it's likly Bebop, Rocksteady and Krang would have returned also. Season 2 was also supposed to have the US Government declear a hunt on the turtles, a family member killed off (Probably Splinter as he died in the comics), and Raphael leaving the group and going solo. There had been plans for a forth movie and a new line of comic books. It looked as though a new generation of turtle mania was upon us. But when the show was cancelled, they pulled the plug on Season 2, the forth film and the comics. The show was scoring the highest ratings, yet they still cancelled it. The only reason this show was cancelled was because it was scoring better ratings than Power Rangers. You see, Saban Entertainment figured that could benefit more from Power Rangers. Every time they use Mirage characters (The turtles, Shredder, April, Casey, etc) they have to pay Mirage Studios. By working on a franchise they own (Power Rangers) they don't have to share the money with anyone. After the show ended, plans for an animated version were underway, but it never went into production. THEME LYRICS Four green Turtles Heard the news?
