Goof: When Ashton visits Madeline at the beginning of the episode, she steals the needle point work of Mont Royal that Clarissa made. However, how is it in Orry's and Madeline's possesion in the first place? It is not likely that Madeline stole it before leaving Mont Royal and Orry and her only came back to the family home to see it burn to ashes.
Goof: George leans forward and places his ear close to Constance's neck to check out if she is dead or alive. There's no way he can tell without checking for pulse.
Cooper Main, Orry's older brother, first appears in the show even if he was never mentioned or acknowledged in the previous books.
Bent tells Contance that Orry and George gave him the nickname of "Butcher Bent", something we never heard about before.
Goof: Madeline says she can recognize Cooper because of his hair, even though his head is fully covered with the Ku Klux Klan hoodie.
Goof: Charles' son Gus is five years old whereas Orry's son is just 1, even though Orry is the first born.
Goof: Despite being trown to the river and found in a severe condition, Bent still keeps his cane.
Madeline keeps Orry's half of the $10 note that George ripped when they were cadets in West Point.
Ashton can be hilarious in her wickedness. When she ends up as a prostitute in Santa Fe, she calls herself Senorita Brett after her sister.
Goof: When Bent kills Constance, their faces are touching in the close shots, but not in the wide shots.
The Union officer who spares Mont Royal identifies himself as Major Fisk. He previously appeared as Orry and George's fellow cadet at West Point. He was the one who at first despised Orry for his southern roots, but later on they got along especially since Orry helped him financially to finish his training at the Academy. Fisk repays Orry's generosity not burning down Mont Royal when the war is over, even though neither of them are aware of this fact.
Goof: Charles' son looks the same age or older than Orry's, even though the later is supposed to be the oldest of both.
Goof: Billy is shot in his shoulder but still immediately afterwards he carries Tom, the drummer boy, in his arms.
Goof: Virgilia wasn't the first woman to ever die hung in the United States. It was Mary Surrate, convicted of conspiracy to kill President Lincoln. However it is believed she was innocent.
Despite featured in the opening credits, Terri Garber (Ashton Main) does not appear in this episode.
Mr. Beaudeen is the secret buyer of Resolute. He is getting the house only to return it to Madeline.
Ashton has fallen in love with Bent, but her feelings aren't returned. Bent sees her just as a business partner and a lover.
Maude says that she doesn't feel like it Christmas without George and Billy. However, she doesn't mention Virgilia, who is not present either.
Goof: Snipers attack the yankee camp and no one even ducks as some men are recruited to get them.
Charles insists that Augusta has some whiskey to put herself together and she says that she is not used to it. However, she drinks it up without even making a face.
