In the episode "Three Doctors" 8 months earlier Ed tells Leonard he can't stand the sight of blood and Leonard told him he would get used to it. I guess Leonard was right, he got used to it; otherwise he wouldn't be able to look at all the units of blood they collected for the drive so easily.
