  • Too Close for Comfort

This didn't look good for the home team at halftime. BYU is a solid team - well-coached and disciplined and they found a way to score two touchdowns, the first in five games against one of the best defenses in the nation. As a fan, I'm always nervous about any game that ND is not leading by at least 28. :) This was a lot like the Purdue game; a mighty struggle against an unranked opponent.

Next up is Oklahoma in Norman and that will indeed by a formidable opponent. At this stage, ND should get to 10 wins, which would be an outstanding season and yield a nice Bowl game.moreless
  • BYU Notre Dame

BYU has been flying under the radar this year, actually they're a team that has been flying under the radar a few years now, and they gave Notre Dame a challenge here. Give the Irish defense credit though, it is just so difficult to do anything against them this year. You might be able to break open a few plays, but even with the question mark at QB and Tommy Rees not really having a spectacular game, it is still tough to outscore them.

A big win by Notre Dame, and this should be enough to keep them ahead of LSU in the rankings.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

  • QUOTES (3)

    • BYU Coach Bronco Mendenhall: We were one or two plays short from being able to come away with a victory.

    • Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelly: [Theo Riddick] just ran really hard, north and south, physical. That gives energy for everybody. The o-line sees a guy who's really pounding it in there. He got us that energy we needed.
Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelly: That's a bracket buster team in basketball parlance, that's a darned good football team. Our kids hung in there and won the football game. So really pleased to be 7-0.

    • Notre Dame Running Back Theo Riddick: As a team, this was special. We showed that we can run the ball.

  • NOTES (1)

    • The is the seventh meeting between the schools with Notre Dame holding a 4-2 edge in the series. Their last meeting was in 1995, a 49-23 Irish home win.
