Episode Summary

Digging Out of Debt
In the wake of changes to consumer bankruptcy laws in the United States, this episode of NOW with David Brancaccio explores consumer debt through the lens of average families. The law, lobbied for by business groups, appears to have boosted profits in lending while making it more difficult and costly for consumers to declare bankruptcy. Brancaccio explores the roots of the debt problem and takes on the issues of personal accountability and lending practices. The episode also features the story of a death row inmate seeking to appeal his conviction in a case where the sole eyewitness has recanted their testimony of the inmate's guilt.moreless
