  • Amy Brenneman

    PO Janice Licalsi [ episodes 1 - 24 ]

    9.0
Actress Amy Brenneman, a tall hazel-eyed performer of stage and screen with a pale complexion, thick, dark hair and a wide smile, first garnered major attention for her groundbreaking bare-all turn on "NYPD Blue" (ABC) and went on to carve out a prolific career in film and television, often playing strong and unpredictable women. After studying comparative religion at Harvard, Brenneman appeared in Off-off- and Off-Broadway productions before beginning her successful small screen endeavors, cast as club chanteuse Blanche, a member of the diverse repertory of characters peopling CBS's acclaimed but short-lived comedy-drama series "Middle Ages" (1992).

Next up was a regular stint in the debut season of the controversial ABC crime series "NYPD Blue", playing Janice Licalsi, a cop with a shady past who becomes involved with both a fiery detective (David Caruso) and a Mafia don, eventually killing the latter. Although appearing on the long-running series for only the premiere season (1993-94) and two episodes of the following season, Brenneman's turn was well-acted (she garnered two supporting actress Emmy nods), although probably best remembered for the controversial nude scene alongside Caruso in a 1993 episode. In 1995, Brenneman began the move into feature film work with supporting parts in "Casper", as Christina Ricci's mother, the romantic comedy "Bye Bye, Love", as Matthew Modine's ex-wife and "Heat", as Robert De Niro's love interest. She next teamed with William Petersen and Mark Wahlberg in the thriller "Fear" and starred opposite Sylvester Stallone in the disaster actioner "Daylight" (both 1996).

Brenneman was co-producer of the independent feature "Nevada" (1997), in which she also starred as part of an ensemble cast which included Kirstie Alley and Gabrielle Anwar. In 1998, she took on the morally ambiguous role of unhappily married and unfaithful Mary in the bleak "Your Friends and Neighbors", Neil LaBute's harsh look at sexual politics. Less memorable was her turn in Donal Lardner Ward's unremarkable directorial debut "The Suburbans" (1999), as the longtime girlfriend of a has-been rocker (Ward) whose titular band gets an unexpected second chance at stardom fifteen years after their lone hit. She was back among a host of strong actresses such as Holly Hunter, Glenn Close, and Calista Flockhart in the Sundance-screened "Things You Can Tell by Just Looking at Her" (2000).

While she began work in features following her departure from "NYPD Blue", her subsequent television work was more successful than many of her film credits. A memorable recurring guest role in the 1998-1999 season of NBC's "Frasier" as Faye, the strong-willed love interest of the radio psychiatrist, kept her in the public eye, as did work in TV-movies, notably as the feminist painter in HBO's biopic "Mary Cassatt: American Impressionist" and as a daring field agent in ABC's "ATF" (both 1999). Later that year, Brenneman returned to regular series work as creator, executive producer, and star of the CBS drama "Judging Amy". Inspired by the life of her own mother, Judge Frederica Brenneman, the series follows Judge Amy Gray (Brenneman), a recent divorcee who moves with her young daughter from New York City to her Hartford, Connecticut hometown, living in the family home with her mother and brother and pursuing a more satisfying job as a juvenile court judge. The show, likened to "Providence" in its theme and approach, as well as the coincidental physical similarities between Brenneman and "Providence" star Melina Kanakaredes, was an unexpected hit, and has proved a solid ratings leader in its time slot since its debut. Her current starring role is in ABC's new primetime drama, a "Grey's Anatomy" spin-off "Private Practice."moreless

  • Andrea Thompson

    Det. Jill Kirkendall [ season 5 - 7, recurring season 4 ]

    8.7
Andrea Thompson is a versatile woman with a career that has extended to modeling, acting, journalism, and voice work. She was born in the USA in the state of Ohio in 1959, and moved to Australia when she was six years old. She has four siblings, and is very independent.

She traveled for five years after graduating from high school at 16. Eventually, she landed in New York city where she pursued modeling and took acting lessons at Strasberg Studio and the Herbert Bergdorf Studios.

Early successes in her career include "Delirious" with John Candy, Oliver Stone's "Wall Street," the television series "Falcon Crest," for which she was bestowed a Soap Opera Digest award.

In 1987, she married Davod Guc. They divorced in 1990.

Her son Alec was born in 1992.

Andrea moved to to Los Angeles, where she played Talia Winters in the space science fiction TV series "Babylon 5."

In 1995 she married co-star Jerry Doyle who played Security Chief Michael Garibadi on B5. They divorced in 1997.

She left Babylon 5 to join the cast of "JAG" as Commander Krennick. The feature film "A Gun, A Car, A Blonde" followed as did a guest-star role in the HBO series "Arli$$," and a role in the feature "The Lost Valley."

She went on to portray Detective Jill Kirkendall on "NYPD Blue." This became one of her two most memorable roles besides Talia on B5. To research the role she accompanied detectives from both the Son of Sam and Zodiac murder cases. The research proved valuable, combined with her hard work and long days, and Andrea was a success on the show.

Unfortunately, she became a victim of a stalker, and in December 1998 her stalker, Italian designer Gianluigi Assenato, was sentenced to two years in prison and subsequent deportation. The event was a factor in her becoming a strong advocate for victims.

The hours on "NYPD Blue" were long and eventually Andrea announced she would be leaving the show. She wanted to spend more time with her son and pursue a journalism career. She moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and started as a reporter for KRQE-TV. A position followed as an anchor at CNN Headline News.

Recent work includes a role on "Medical Investigation" as Dr. Lois McCarthy, a role on "24" as Dr. Nicole Duncan, a role on "Touching Evil" as Justine Hazelton and a reprise on "JAG" as Alison Krennick. • Bill Brochtrup

    PAA John Irvin [ episode 123+, recurring seasons 2 – 6 ]

    9.0
There had been other gay characters on TV series before public administrative assistant John Irvin on ABC's "NYPD Blue", but perhaps none to whom the audience had so quickly and easily warmed, with his sweet smile and peppy attitude, the openly gay blond with boy-next-door good looks. What followed during two seasons of recurring appearances was a chance to see not just Brochtrup's fine acting, but the character of Det. Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) finding he could relate to a gay male as a human being and not as someone who made him uncomfortable. So popular was Irvin that his character was moved to the short-lived 1996 CBS sitcom "Public Morals", which, like "NYPD Blue", was executive produced by Steven Bochco. As a result, the actor has become one of the producers stock players, landing a role as yet another gay character in the ensemble of "Total Security" (ABC, 1997). When that show succumbed to early cancellation, the actor rejoined "NYPD Blue" in early 1998.moreless

  • Sharon Lawrence

    ADA Sylvia Costas [ seasons 2 – 4, recurring seasons 1, 5 & 6 ]

    6.3
Sharon Lawrence has the depth and passion needed for a long-running drama, the range and timing to land her own comedy series, the verve to star in high-profile theatre productions, and the vision to produce her own films. The result has been a wide and multi-textured career. Sharon starred as v. Cates in the weekly CBS series Wolf Lake. She commutes from Los Angeles to Vancouver where the one-hour drama - which also stars Lou Diamond Phillips and Tim Matheson - is filmed. Executive produced by Alex Gansa and Rick Kellard (the X Files, Maximum Bob), the series (described as The Sopranos with fangs!) takes place in an enormous Pacific Northwest town whose most prominent citizens are "shapshifters" that transform themselves into wolves each struggling to become the Alpha (leader) wolf. Sharon plays the show's sexy and determined Alpha female a multi-layered role to be sure. Earlier this year, Sharon completed principal photography in New Zealand for a film which she stars Atomic Twister. Sharon is an avid traveler and took advantage of her time "down under" to travel and enjoy the native offerings. As co-star of the two-season CBS comedy, Ladies Man, she played opposite Alfred Molina as his spouse, Donna Stiles, a complex wife, mom, step mom and daughter-in-law. On Ladies Man, Sharon was a member of one of the most seasoned casts on primetime television, which included Betty White and Stephen Roof, and she gave a performance that required many disciplines acquired during a career that has spanned every genre from musical comedy to serious drama. On hiatus from her first season of Ladies Man in 2000, Sharon starred as Velma Kelly, the sexy murderess, in the smash hit Broadway musical Chicago at the Shubert Theatre. This marked Sharon's first appearance on a Broadway stage since becoming famous for creating an indelible character, Sylvia Costas Sipowicz, on NYPD Blue, in 1993. Sharon garnered a Screen Actor's Guild Award and three Emmy Award Nominations for Best Supporting Actress on the multiple Emmy Award winning ABC drama series while portraying Sylvia, the compassionate and headstrong District Attorney who falls in love with, and marries, Detective Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz). Her comedic guest turn as a high-strung, chain-smoking headhunter on the NBC hit comedy Caroline In The City in the 1995-1996 season was so well-received that it generated an all-network bidding war which resulted in an overall NBC deal for Sharon. This resulted in her starring in the NBC sitcom Fired Up and made her one of the few actresses in 1997 to be featured in two prime-time series one drama, and one comedy on competing networks. Sharon also starred with Diane Keaton, San Shepard and Diane Lane in the feature film The Only Thrill, a heartfelt drama about a love affair that spans three decades. Her most recent feature film appearance was in the Warner Brothers-released Gossip starring Kate Hudson. In 1997, Sharon produced her first television film for NBC, Five Desperate Hours, in which she also starred opposite Giancarlo Esposito. The telefilm, based on actual events, featured Sharon as a woman who ultimately saves the life of a man holding her hostage. Her additional credits include the television films, A Face on the Milk Carton opposite Jill Clayburgh (CBS), Degree of Guilt with David James Elliot (NCS), A Friend's Betrayal with Brian Austin Green (NBC), The Uninvited with Beau Bridges (CBS) and Blue Moon with Richard Kiley and Kim Hunter, which aired on CBS in the spring of 1999. In November, 1999, Sharon so-starred in the Hallmark Entertainment-produced Aftershock: Earthquake in New York for CBS with Tom Skerritt, Cicely Tyson and Lisa Nicole Carson. Born and raised in Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, Sharon began her career as a singer and dancer. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in musical theatre where she appeared on stage in the record-breaking revivals of Zorba with Anthony Quinn, Cabaret with Joel Grey and Fiddler of the Roof with Chaim Topol. An early indication of Sharon's slapstick abilities later seen in a famous episode of Fired Up where she first tangoed with and then wrestled an electric floor polisher to the ground came during the run of Cabaret. In the middle of one matinee, Sharon literally danced of the lip of the stage into the audience, exited up the aisle, ran around the theatre, and danced back onstage from the wings without missing a beat! Sharon also starred with Tony Award-winning actress Cherry Jones at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles in Tongue of a Bird by Ellen McLaughlin, which moved to New York and enjoyed a limited sold-out run at the Joseph Papp Public Theatre in April, 1999. Other theatre credits include Fire in the Rain (Mark Taper Forum), The Seagull and The Homecoming (L.A. Theatre Critics Award, Best Actress), both at the Matrix Theatre Company. Sharon devotes much of her time to non-profit work for organizations like the Alzheimer's Association and the Earth Communications Office. She serves at the national spokesperson for PADI (the Professional Association of Dive Instructors) and is also a board member of the Creative Coalition a non-partisan politically advocacy group run by the entertainment industry working towards promoting arts in the education systems, protecting the national endowment for arts and supporting the first amendment. Sharon was also one of the hosts of the 1999 Special Olympics' World Games in her hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina. Sharon leads a full life of adventure and excitement. Witness her two African safaris, and ABC Special Touched by a Dolphin for which she had to learn to scuba dive, and the demonstration of her rock-climbing skills in Aftershock: Earthquake in New York. She makes time to keep in shape with daily yoga classes, spinning and Pilates instruction. Sharon embraces life with the gusto of a young girl who grew up in the south, won the title of Raleigh's Junior Miss as a teen and yearned to broaden her horizons. Forever curious, easily moved and frequently surprised by life's pleasant turns, Sharon Lawrence has the kind of passion that will sustain her career for years to come.moreless

Television actor Currie Graham, who has been acting for over two decades, is mostly known for his roles as sports writer Nathan Knaborski, a romantic interest of Brooke Shields in the final season of Suddenly Susan and as the ruthless and sleazy ADA Nick Balco on Boston Legal. He has filled up his resume with a variety of television and film credits from a wide array of roles and genres since the late '80s. Graham, who played basketball in high school, was introduced to acting when he signed up for the drama program thinking it was a chance to catch some sleep before games. As fate had it, he fell in love with theater and began performing in school plays. His parent's dream for him to become a medical doctor was set aside and he instead enrolled at the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.

In New York, he found a new home and in acting, he discovered his calling. Currie continued to appear in theatrical productions during and after his stint at the academy. His television debut was a guest appearance in an episode of Just the Ten of Us in 1988. It wasn't until in 1992 that he followed that up playing Mitchell Burkitt in a Law & Order episode. During the next three years, Graham did a handful of films and made-for-TV movies including the crime dramedy Money for Nothing (1993) with John Cusack and Benicio Del Toro.
