Originally 90 min. long when aired on ABC. A 60-min. version of this episode has been shown on COURT TV. Material cut included: Scenes from the story where an angry-about-Bobby Medavoy is furious at getting an annoying complaint from an annoying and unwilling landlord and takes it out on him (the shorter episode has a shot of Medavoy looking annoyed while meeting with this guy, but neither of them speak during it and there are no other scenes where the two of them are together); all but one of the scenes where Bobby Simone talks to his presumably-dead old mentor Patsy Ferrara, played by Brad Sullivan (the last scene, right before Bobby passes on, is in the 60-min. version); a scene where Medavoy tosses the annoying complainant out of the 15th while a tearful Fancy is telling the squad that they should go over and see Bobby before he passes away; and two scenes where Martinez is snapping with either PAA John or Officer Shannon due to Bobby's condition, and apologizes to them for being abrasive.
The episode won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.
In its original broadcast this episode was broadcast in a 90 minute time slot.
