There was really nothing special to this episode, but I'd be wrong to say that I did not enjoy watching it because I kinda' enjoyed it quite a lot. Hannah continues to impress me, and so has Laura Prepon. Cataldo isn't seeming so bad anymore, whereas his ex-wife is being major b*tch, I'm just glad Hannah punched the hell out of her. I sort of pity Ronnie who has a secret crush on Aubrey, but can't and won't compete with his brother, though Ikkie, the master of cheating, might teach him a thing or to about getting the girl that ain't yours.moreless

The show doesnt seem to follow the timeline very well. The end of the last episode showed Owen depressed outside of a window because he had just seen his wife get a ride home from Ikey, yet nothing was touched upon about that in this episode. Physical Phil stepped into the spotlight for the second time and the longer I watch his storyline the more boring it gets for his "Im not leaving the house" storyline. When the car broke down at the end I was sure he was going to change his ways, but just seeing the Pizza Girl push the car back down the street was so pathetic and lame. Nick and Aubrey saved the epsiode with them getting it on, which promted Nicks Brother to leave a beautiful blonde woman to...go to Ikey? Power play there. This was the weakest October Road episode I thought. There didnt seem to be much character devolopment.moreless

Still great but definitely not where the show needs to be right now. Petty romances between Nick & Aubrey, and we've got yet another love triangle with Ronnie added to the mix? October Road just seems much more mature than that, which is something you would usually see on a teen drama, not on October Road. I found myself cringing when Nick & Aubrey slept together in the end.

I was really rooting for Ronnie & Aubrey, and I just couldn't stand Nick in this episode. He spends all season harping on Hannah, saying that he's in love with her, he seems like the good guy when he doesn't want to rebound with Aubrey, but then he ends up sleeping with her in the end. Couldn't Nick & Aubrey stay intellectual friends at least for now? I don't know, I was just uncomfortable with that.

The plus sides of this episode was finally steering away from the Ikey/Alison/Owen triangle and focusing more on the other characters like Pizza Girl's interactions with the rest of the cast. Hannah punching out Christine really made this episode for me. It was definitely exciting. I can't help but feel bad for Pizza Girl in the end. Having to push the car back to the house? A sad scene, great episode in general, but October Road can do better.moreless

First of all, I love Big Cat's ex-wife. She is great, I could see why they got married, they are so much alike. I wonder why they split-up. I was so angry at what Christine said to Hannah at the garage sale, and I am glad Hannah punched, she had no right to say that about Sam. I like that Pizza Girl is trying to take small steps to get Physical Phil out of the house more. I can't believe she actually pushed the car when it died in the street, so he wouldn't have to get out of the car. That is dedication and love, I don't know if I would do that for my boyfriend. My two favorite characters are Nick and Ronnie. I love how Nick was trying to be a good big brother and get Ronnie out and dating. I love how he and Aubrey hooked Ronnie up, but the whole time Ronnie was developing feelings for Aubrey and it became very obvious in this episode, so much that Ikey noticed, but no one else. I like that Ronnie went to Ikey to try and figure out how to stop having the feelings for Aubrey. I thought the love scene between Nick and Aubrey was a little awkward, especially with the rubbing of the ear lobes. I guess I really just want Nick and Hannah back together that I don't like him with Aubrey. My favorite line in this episode was said by Ikey to Ronnie "dude every time she burps it is like you heard the symphony". Ikey has some of the best one-liners!moreless
  • Nice development.

After last week's perfect episode, I thought it was unable to top that episode. However, this episode proved to be yet another great installment. I totally agree with the writers on the every episode being a special story, like a separate movie or something.

Okay, so we didn't get any Janet and Eddie today, but others got more air time. The connection between Pizza Girl and Phil is great. They work great as a couple and always provide fun scenes. Hannah got to fight a super-villain Christine and I'm glad she punched her. She definitely deserved it. Nice going.

And finally, I got more Nick and Aubrey. I don't like the fact that Ronnie has feelings for Aubrey, but still, it provides a good plot for the future and it was nice having a story for Ronnie. I wonder why they didn't put him on contract if he appears in each episode. Anyway, I was amazed that Aubrey finally stepped up and told Nick everything that bothered her. And then the twist at the end. Just great.

I just love the music in the show. It concludes a certain episode and gives it a warmer feeling. We're left with a lot of questions for the future: Will Hannah and Ray tie the knot? Will Aubrey and Nick stay together? Will Ronnie tell Aubrey about his feelings for her? How will Eddie and Janet's relationship continue? What's in store for Physical Phil and Pizza Girl? And what will happen to the Rowans? I can't wait to find out.moreless

    • (After having sex)
      Nick: What do you think?
Aubrey: That you just friended my brains out.

    • Eddie (About Pizza Girl): You know she's right, Phil. You should take her for a spin.
Phil: I just continue to be amazed by which part of the "shut in" is unclear to you guys. Is it the "shut" or perhaps it's the "in"?

    • (Taking a test)
Sam: In the next twelve months, your career goal is to...
Hannah: Figure out a career goal.

    • Aubrey: We should go bowling. Taylor likes to bowl.
Nick: She likes to bowl? Really? Wow, maybe she's more for my father than she is for my brother. Does she also make her own barbecue sauce using vodka and salt water taffy? Because if so, she's definitely for my dad.

    • (Sam tries to keep his werewolf costume)
Sam: I can make a very strong case for this being a keeper.
Hannah: Four year old Halloween costumes are non negotiable. They go in the out puddle.
Sam: This is right after I learned there's no such thing as Santa Claus. Werewolves helped me get over it. Until, of course, I found out there's no such thing as werewolves.
Hannah: And what helped you get over that?
      Sam: Dragons.
      Hannah: Sorry dude.

    • Hannah (About Ray's ex wife): I'll go double or nothing, she doesn't have a bottle opener attached to her key ring.
Janet: Then she's a fool. The joke will be on her. If she's ever stranded on a desert island with three cases of grape soda that don't have twist tops, ha!

    • Ray: When I mention this, I'm suddenly being sexist, old fashioned and a thug.
Hannah: Sexist and old fashioned yes, but you have been a thug long before this mention.

    • (Nick and Ronnie enter Sully's Tavern)
Aubrey: I love it! Two Garretts for a price of one.

  • ALLUSIONS (4)

    • Sam: (carrying a boom box playing the Rocky theme) How you doing champ?
Hannah: My knuckles are killing me.

Teasing his mom being a prize fighter, Sam plays the theme from Rocky, a 1976 movie about boxing.

    • The title of the episode "Once Around the Block" is also the title of a single by Badly Drawn Boy.

    • Phil: I love the Manning's Wisemen. They bear an uncanny resemblance to Moe, Larry, and Curly.

Moe, Larry, and Curly comprise the famous TV comic trio from The Three Stooges Show which aired from the 1930's to the 1950's.

    • Phil: (after his classic car started) It's alive!

That famous line was spoken by Dr. Henry Frankenstein when the monster he created came to life in the 1931 movie Frankenstein.
