More people should have seriously gave this show a chance. This show has a distinct quality about it, not to mention the camerawork and editing is beautiful. We got a lot of humorous moments tonight on October Road, and it's proved that this show can steer away from the drama, and show the light side of things.

We've got a pivotal episode here, with Nick trying to get the job at the school and eventually getting it. The applecart analogy was clever, and I loved the scenes between Nick & Hannah. Nick begins to wonder if Sam is his son because of his uncommon peanut allergy. The scene at the end with Hannah's breakdown was a powerful scene, and I love how it keeps flashing back to the sepia scenes.

Eddie trying to get with Aubrey just to upset Nick was cold, but I'm looking forward to the future plots that Aubrey takes part in, she's an interesting character, and I'm excited to see what's to come for her character. We've got another intriguing ending with "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" playing in the background, and this show continues to be wildly intriguing.moreless

In the pilot we were introduced to all the characters and now we get into the storylines. Nick has found out that Sam has a peanut allergy and thinks Sam must be his son, personally I would agree. I really think Nick is the father, I want Nick to be the father. Eddie thinking that Nick is attracted to Aubrey, the pretty college student, tries to hook up with her to make Nick jealous or angry. Nick tries to get a job at the college, so he can have a function and Hannah will tell him about Sam. My favorite line of the episode is Nick to the Dean: "Um, I think you are forgetting the part where I burned down the orphanage and drunk dialed the pope". Loved it, definitely a good start into some exciting storylines!moreless

  • Nick is trying to figure out whether Sam is his son or not...

I get why Hannah doesn't want Nick to know that Sam is his son (which I'm pretty sure he is). Nick left her behind and never even called, he left and never looked back. She was on her own and managed everything quite well as it seems - until he came back and stirred up everyone's life. Don't get me wrong: It's good that he came back, otherwise we wouldn't have this great show going! ;-) But I think it may take a while for Hannah to lighten up and let Nick in again. Wasn't it sweat how Nick's dad went to the vet and then was convinced that Sam had his wife's eyes?? :-)moreless

  • Nick decides to stay in town and has to deal with the effects of coming home after ten years.

I thought that this was a really good episode for a new show. I really like that Nick wants to get to know Sam better and that Nick also told everyone that he thinks that Sam is his son. I found it really funny that Nick's father went into the vet's office with a rondom cat to see if Sam is his grandson but what he did not relieze that the cat was Hannah and Sam's cat. I was disappointed to learn that Ikey and Owen's wife are having an affair every tuesday night. What kind of friend is he to be sleeping with a friend's wife.moreless

    • Penny Johnson Jerald takes over the recurring role of Dean Leslie Etwood, previously played by Bill Nunn. Apparently, the producers decided to make the character a female character, but they already filmed the pilot, so they just decided to change the actor. Edit

    • Phil: (talking about peanut allergies) There's about a 60% chance of it originating from a genetic inheritance. Ikey: So, there's a 40% chance it don't! Nick: Well done, Pythagoras. Ikey: (Scoffs) Thanks for playing. Pythagoras was a winged horse, Greek myth style Nick: That would be Pegasus! Edit
    • Eddie: So you want to go check out my singing koala bear in my attic. Janet: Are you asking me out? Eddie: Yea, I guess I am. Why don't you think about it and let me know. Janet: Tell you what, I'll think about it. Edit

    • Aubrey: (to Eddie) You know I'd have pegged you more as a John Cougar Mellencamp guy than a John Cougar guy. Reference to a musician who called himself first John Cougar, then John Cougar Mellencamp and finally John Mellencamp. Aubrey associates the name changes with changes in his music. Edit
    • Ikey: (After Nick corrects him) Guy spends 10 years in New York City. Thinks he's Anderson Cooper 360. Anderson Cooper 360° is a fast-moving, surprising and provocative alternative to the typical network evening newscast. Edit
    • Episode Title: "The Pros and Cons of Upsetting the Applecart" The title is a reference to Hannah's line in this episode in which she asks Nick not to upset the applecart. Edit
