  • Too many plotholes break the rules.

Odyssey 5 has a fairly good basis to the story I think. Only a few people know of the impending doom, there are only a few of the synthetics/aliens/whatever, but they are in key positions in the Earth to be able to make a difference. Realistic, as far as Sci-fi shows go.

So, using that as the basis, this episode is just plain stupid. Instead of being in the shadows, carefully and silently shaping mankind, not arousing suspicion, we are meant to believe that somehow the sentients have not only made a prison in order to study bad people(murderers etc), but that the prison itself is 'alive'. The building is a living being, that explodes/dissolves when the power is shut off.

    What a crock of sh*t.

Wayyyy to many holes here, hard to list them all. We are meant to believe there is no scrutiny of the prison system by the authorities? No lawyer visits? No family visits? No prison guards from other jails ever work there? No-one ever questions why the prison guards there dont have long, checkable histories(As would be required for security checks to guard the 'worst of the worst' prisoners). What if they ever had a natural power failure? Same result?

It was just a dumb idea. Admitably, I havent yet seen the rest of the series, so maybe this will become some crucial plot point, but as far as I can tell it goes against the basis of a secret plan to destroy the earth, and makes it so obvious no-one would miss the signs any more.

Perhaps episodes like this is why the show never gained popular appeal.moreless

    • Kurt: You're not going to believe this.
Chuck: I find that hard to believe.

    • (Chuck and Kurt introducing themselves to the nasty guard.)
      Kurt: Buck.
      Guard: Mr. Buck
      Kurt: Buck.
Guard: (to Chuck) And who are you?
      Chuck: Roger.
      Guard: Rogers… Buck… Rogers
      Chuck: No, Roger. Singular.

    • Neil: What about me?
      Chuck: You stay at home.
      Neil: Why?
Kurt: Well, I'll gladly forfeit my spot on the tour.
Chuck: (to Kurt) Yes, I'm sure you gladly would. (to Neil) I'll tell you why. Because, lest you forget, you're in high school. If you don't go to class in high school, they throw your ass out of high school. And son, you don't get to help us out of this big mess by becoming a big-ass astronaut, which is what you are now.
Neil: I thought I was in high school.
