Episode Recap

A man comes home to his apartment in New York City and discovers that it's raining and he can't get his window shut. A dove flies in and leaves a postcard for Storybrooke with a single word on it: "Broken."

-----

Prince Philip and his comrade Mulan ride to a castle and finds Princess Aurora, sleeping. He says that they will tell her everything if it works and then kisses her. Aurora wakes up and wonders why their castle is in ruins, and Philip says that they must rebuild their castle. However, he assures her that their people are safe and Maleficent is no longer a threat.

-----

In Storybrooke, the purple mists die away and Mary-Margaret and David go to find out what has happened. Granny and Ruby are embracing and recognize Mary-Margaret, and the other townspeople and they all know who they are. As they bow to Mary-Margaret and David, Emma and Henry arrive and her parents embrace her. The townspeople wonder why they're still there and the Mother Superior arrives and says that magic was responsible. When Henry asks her to help, the Mother Superior admits that she has no fairy dust or wands. They set out to find Regina, who they believe are responsible, but Emma says that it wasn't her.

At the magic well, Belle explains that she was abducted by Regina and left in the insane asylum. Gold refuses to let it stand but Belle asks him to promise that he won't give into his hate and kill Regina. She asks him to promise that they can be together and Gold gives his word as they kiss.

As they walk through town, Mary-Margaret suggests to Emma that they talk about her life and everything that has happened. Emma says that she needs a little time. Archie runs down the street and explains that Whale has whipped everyone into a frenzy against Regina. The others agree, figuring that Regina could have her powers back and might slaughter them all.

-----

At Aurora's castle, Mulan paces outside while Phillip and Aurora talk. She notices something nearby and draws her sword as the building shakes. A black robed figure with glowing eyes bursts through the floor and attacks, and Phillip runs over to slashes at it. He cuts off the amulet it wears around its neck and it flees, and Phillip warns the others that it's something bad. He picks up the amulet and looks carefully at it.

-----

Gold takes Belle back to his pawnshop to find her something to wear. He goes into the back, unlocks a cabinet, and takes out a small gold case. Opening it, Gold removes the amulet and looks carefully at it.

Whale and the mob pound on the door of Regina's home. She finally comes out, smiling, and asks if she can help. Whale promises to make her suffer but Regina shoves her back and prepares to cast a spell, but realizes that she's powerless. As the mob moves in, Emma barges in and stops them, and David reminds them that Emma saved them. Henry asks Emma not to let them kill his adoptive mother and she promises that she won't let Regina come to harm. Whale says that they're not part of the world but David says that they are now. He asks who Whale really is but Whale refuses to tell him. Mary-Margaret points out that Regina's death won't give them any answers but says that they should lock her up.

Emma and the others take Regina to the jail and Regina explains that they didn't go back because there is nothing to go back to. They realize that they need to talk to Gold and leave. Once she's alone, Regina tries to open the lock with a spell but nothing happens. Gold comes in and tells her that magic is different in the real world. He tells her that she is safe because of his promise to Belle, who Regina kept alive for a fate worse than death. Gold promises her the same thing for her, grabs her hand, and slaps the amulet onto her palm.

-----

Mulan explains that the creature is a Qui Shen, a wraith and introduces herself to Aurora. Phillip explains that they fought battles together, and Mulan says that the wraith marks its victims and then feeds on their souls, damning them for all eternity. They all avoided the mark and Mulan says that they need to begin their journey. As she walks away, Phillip assures Aurora that they'll be safe with their people... and hides the mark on his hand that he acquired when he picked up the wraith's amulet.

-----

Gold walks into the woods and drops the amulet on the ground. He then holds up his dagger and summons the creature, driving it into the ground.

In the jail, Regina wakes up and discovers that the mark of the amulet is now burned into her hand.

The wraith emerges from the amulet and flies off.

Once Emma sends Ruby off with Henry, Mary-Margaret insists on talking with her daughter, mother to daughter. Emma agrees and says that her parents sent her away for 28 years, leaving her alone. Mary-Margaret points out that she would have been cursed but Emma says that at least they would have been together and goes to find Gold.

-----

In the woods, Mulan suggests that they camp for the night because that is when the wraith hunts. Phillip agrees and they settle in. Aurora tries to talk to Phillip and notices that he's nervous, but he kisses her and says that he's going to gather wood for the fire. Once his back is turned, Phillip lets a single tear fall.

-----

Emma, David, and Mary-Margaret confront Gold at his shop and demand answers. They have questions for him and points out that he endangered Henry, and Gold points out that Henry is alive, the curse is broken, and Emma is reunited with her parents. However, he refuses to tell them why he brought their identities back. The town suddenly shakes and they run outside to look as the electrical wires break and a roaring noise echoes in the distance. Gold tells them that it will take care of Regina for them and they go. Before she leaves, Emma tells Gold that they're not done and he agrees, reminding her that she owes him a favor. Once they're gone, Belle emerges from the back and accuses him of lying to her. Gold insists that he will keep his word and that he won't kill Regina. She tells Gold that he's still a man who makes wrong choices and storms off as Gold tries to apologize.

-----

As Mulan and Aurora set up the camp, they hear the wraith in the distance. Aurora realizes that Phillip hasn't returned and they realize that he's taken the horses with him. Mulan concludes that he was marked and left to save them, and goes after him. She says that she has to go alone but Aurora insists on going with her. By the time she catches up, she discovers that Mulan has already left sight.

-----

The wraith flies into the jail and confronts Regina, smashing the cell door open. It reaches for her and starts draining the soul force from her, but David hits it with a chair. The wraith knocks him back and returns to Regina, but Mary-Margaret uses hairspray and a lighter to create a makeshift flamethrower, driving it away. Regina tells them what it was and warns that it will be back once it regenerates because it doesn't stop until it devours its prey. She warns the others that it's already dead and can't be killed. David figures that once Regina is dead, the wraith will go away and they will be safe. Regina tells them that Gold sent the wraith, and Emma refuses to break her promise to Henry to keep Regina alive. Mary-Margaret asks what they can do and Regina says that they can send it somewhere that it won't hurt anyone.

Regina and the others go to the mayor's office and she takes out Jefferson's hat. As she removes it, she asks Emma if Henry really asked her to protect his adopted mother. Emma recognizes the hat and says that it belonged to Jefferson, but Regina says that she doesn't know Jefferson. As David and Mary-Margaret make torches, Regina explains that she can use the hat to send it back to their world, which no longer exists so that it will be banished to oblivion.

-----

Mulan tracks Phillip into the woods as Aurora rides up and insists on going with her. Aurora refuses to abandon Phillip but Mulan says that he understands sacrifice and is sacrificing himself for Aurora. The princess realizes that Mulan loves Phillip as well but the warrior denies it.

-----

The wraith flies in and David holds it off with a torch long enough for Mary-Margaret to create a flame barrier. Regina tries to get the hat to work.

-----

Phillip wields a torch and calls on the wraith to come get him. Mulan and Aurora arrive and he tells them to go because it's too late for him. Mulan asks for the amulet so that she can mark herself and let him live. Aurora doesn't want to live without him and Phillip says that he doesn't want to live without her, either. The wraith flies down and Phillip tells Aurora that he loves her and then drops the torch. The creature drains his soul from him and he collapses, and the wraith reenters the amulet. Aurora drops to her knees, sobbing.

-----

Regina realizes that the magic in the real world is different. Emma takes her hand and they spin the hat together, opening the portal. The wraith lunges at Regina and Emma shoves the mayor out of the way... and falls into the portal with the wraith. Mary-Margaret vows not to lose her daughter and jumps into the portal. When David tries to enter, it's too late: the portal has closed.

-----

Aurora and Mulan take Phillip's body back to the castle. The princess explains that she made her own sacrifice and ended up in her cursed state. Mulan puts the amulet in a bag and gives it to Aurora, saying that she should have it.

-----

David turns to Regina and asks where Mary-Margaret and Emma are, and the mayor admits that she has no idea. When he reaches for her, Regina casts him back with a spell and traps him against the wall. She says that she can kill him and reaches for his heart… just as Ruby brings Henry back. The wall releases David as Regina tells Henry that Emma and Mary-Margaret are gone. He doesn't believe that Regina is sorry and says that she really is the evil queen, and says that he doesn't want to see her again. Regina insists that she loves him and Henry tells her to prove it by bringing Emma and Mary-Margaret back. Until then, he wants nothing to do with his adopted mother and David says that he'll take Henry in.

Belle returns to the pawnshop and Gold tells her that the wraith is gone and Regina is alive. When Belle wonders if he got what he wanted, he tells her that it remains to be seen. She picks up the teacup that she chipped in the fairytale world and is surprised that he still has it. Gold tells her that it's the only thing in his shop that he truly cherishes. He then asks her to leave because he's still a monster no matter what she believes. Belle says that's the reason that she has to stay.

David takes Henry to Mary-Margaret's apartment and promises the boy that he will always find them, and he knows they're still alive.

-----

Mulan tells Aurora that they must leave and says that she there is much that has changed in their land since she fell into her cursed sleep. Queen Regina cast a curse on the land ripping everyone else away. This corner of the land was untouched but they were frozen for 28 years. Something has weakened the curse and Mulan and Phillip set out to find Aurora. The land is now ravaged with monsters and the survivors found a safe haven.

Something moves among the debris where the wraith broke through the floor. Mulan and Aurora go out to investigate and find Emma and Mary-Margaret, unconscious, and Mulan assumes that they are the ones who brought the wraith.
