Episode Recap

The dwarves are in the mine digging for fairy dust when the end of the shift arrives. The others are eager to head back into town but Leroy insists on digging until they have what they need to rescue Mary Margaret and Emma. He breaks through a wall and tumbles into the chamber beyond, and the other dwarves summon David. He arrives with Henry and the Mother Superior and they discover that the dwarves have found the diamonds that are the source of the fairy dust. The Mother Superior confirms that David still has what's left of Jefferson's hat and assures him that once they grind the diamonds into dust, they can use the dust to power the hat and rescue Emma and Mary Margaret.

As everyone goes back to Granny's to celebrate, Billy approaches Ruby and tells her that he was actually a mouse: Gus, who lived in Cinderella's pantry. He asks her for a date now that they know who they really are, but Ruby says she can't. Belle notices and comes over, claiming that she and Ruby are going out later and providing her friend with an excuse for her refusal. Once Billy leaves, Ruby tells Belle that she refused because thing are awkward. As they talk, Ruby glances nervously at the clock.

David notices that Henry is drinking coffee and asks him what's wrong. Henry admits that he's trying to stay awake because of his nightmares and his grandfather assures him that he'll be there to stand watch over him. As Henry goes to get hot cocoa, DA Albert Spencer sits down with David and warns him that they will battle again. He promises to make sure that the townspeople know who David really is but David dares him to try. He's confident that the townspeople will stand by him, having seen him defeat King George in the fairy tale world, and dares Spencer to do his worst.

Once Spencer leaves, David checks in the back and discovers that Granny is converting her freezer into a cage for Ruby. Ruby explains that it's the first full moon since the curse is broken, and that she hasn't had the chance to control her transformation in the 20 years since everyone was cursed. David assures her that she won't harm anyone and that he trusts her but, Ruby refuses to take the chance.

-----

Snow and Red run from the Queen's soldiers, fighting them off when they get too close. They finally hide and Red notices that the hood of her cloak was torn in the struggle. She reminds Snow that it's a full moon and tells her friend to get away before she transforms. Snow reluctantly agrees and tells Red to meet her at the stream in the morning. When Red wonders why Snow is being so kind to her, Snow says that she knows that Red isn't a monster. As Red goes her own way, a man named Quinn watches from the woods.

-----

The next morning, Granny goes back to the diner and discovers that Ruby has ripped her way out of the freezer, leaving claw marks everywhere.

Henry wakes up from his nightmare of being trapped in a flaming room with the mystery woman across the floor. Regina is at his side and explains that David took an emergency call and called to have her look after Henry. She examines her son's hand and discovers that it's burned.

Granny and David follow Ruby's trail into the woods and find her unconscious on the ground. When she wakes up, she says that she doesn't remember what happened but fears the worse. David assures her that everything is fine and then gets a call telling him that someone at the cannery is double-parked. He tells the others that they'll check it out on the way back.

-----

Red wakes up in the morning and realizes that the cloak is intact enough to keep her from transforming. As she goes to the stream to wash up, Quinn grabs her cloak and runs off into the woods. Red follows him and he turns and threatens to burn the cloak. He says that he knows she is a wolf, a child of the moon, and Red tackles him. They struggle and Red realizes that he's one of her kind. She explains that her parents died and never told her the truth, and that Granny lied to her until she realized she was cursed. Quinn figures that Red is blacking out and has been hurting people, and says that he knows what she's going through because he's been through the same thing. He tells Red that there is a way to control the wolf and tells her to follow him.

Quinn takes Red to a sunken castle that his pack now uses as a hidden sanctuary. A woman with glowing gold eyes steps out of the shadows and introduces herself as Anita. She thanks Quinn for finally locating Red and tells the girl that she's her mother.

-----

David stops at the cannery with Ruby and Granny and they realize that the reported vehicle is Billy's tow truck. They search the truck and discover that someone--or something--has torn Billy in two. Ruby screams, believing that she's the one responsible.

Regina asks Gold to come to the apartment and diagnose what is the matter with Henry. The pawnbroker tells them that the dream is a side effect of Henry being caught in the sleeping curse. Sleeping curse victims have their souls trapped between life and death, in different realms, but even after the curse is broken they sometimes return to that state. Gold prepares a necklace and gives it to Henry, explaining that it will let him control the nightmare and take away the fear. When Regina asks what the price is for the magic, Gold says that he's doing it for Henry and that there is no charge.

At the cannery, David refuses to arrest Ruby, insisting that he knows her and that she's no killer. As the townspeople gather, Ruby warns her friend that she will transform again that night with the full moon and that he has to lock her up at the sheriff's station.

-----

Anita tells her daughter that Granny lied to her about how her parents had died, after stealing the child away. The pack leader insists that the wolf is nothing to be ashamed of, and that they are only monsters if they believe that of themselves. Anita explains that many of them spent their lives suppressing the wolf instead of controlling, causing the blackouts and the attacks on the innocent, and offers to help Red accept the wolf within her. Red agrees and Anita tells her to start by removing the cloak. After a moment, Red removes it and embraces her mother.

-----

David locks Ruby up in a cell and promises her that he will find out who really killed Billy. Spencer comes in and says that they already know who really killed Billy, and warns David that he's protecting Ruby and endangering everyone else. David tells him to get out but Spencer demands that the sheriff turn Ruby over for justice. If David refuses, Spencer threatens to tell the townspeople what David is doing. David refuses to cooperate, saying that Spencer will have to go through him to get to Ruby, and Spencer says that he's looking forward to it.

-----

That night, the pack transforms and run through the woods together. The next morning, Ruby wakes up and tells her mother that she remembers everything. She realizes that she doesn't have to be afraid anymore.

-----

Spencer gathers the townspeople and demands to know why Ruby is still alive when they know that she's the killer. He accuses David of harboring the killer and the townspeople storm the sheriff's station... only to discover that David has taken Ruby and left.

David takes Ruby to the library where Belle has volunteered to help her friend. They chain Ruby up and David leaves with Granny to track down the real killer. As they go, David asks Belle to call him if the mob gets to the library.

-----

The pack is sleeping when Snow bursts in. Quinn grabs her and Red explains that Snow is her friend, the only person to accept her as who she really is. They release Snow and she admits that she thought that the Queen's men had captured and killed Red. She followed the wolf prints in the forest like Red taught her to do. Quinn explains who they are and Red tells her friend that she has nothing to fear. When Snow says that they have to leave, Red hesitates and Snow realizes that her friend is going to stay. Red explains that she's found a home where she doesn't have to be ashamed of what she is. Snow says that she understands and would do anything to be with her mother again, and hugs her friend goodbye.

Before Snow can leave, the queen's men barge in, having followed Snow. One of them shoots Quinn in the chest before the pack kills him and the rest. Red runs to Quinn only to discover that she's too late.

-----

As the sun goes down, Ruby tells Belle to leave before she transforms and endangers her. Belle refuses to abandon her friend but Ruby says that she has killed and that people should be afraid of her. The librarian doesn't believe it, saying that she can see the good in Ruby and that Ruby needs to look into herself and see what the others see in her. Ruby admits that Belle may be right... and then chains her to a shelf. She goes out to confront the mob, saying that she deserves to die for what she's done.

Granny traces the blood on Billy's coat with her own enhanced senses and the trail leads to a parked car. David opens the trunk and they find Ruby's cloak and a bloody hatchet inside. They realize that someone stole Ruby's cloak to force her to transform, and then killed Billy to frame her. David checks the car registration and confirms that it belongs to Spencer. He figures that Spencer set up the whole thing so that he could wrest power away from David and get his revenge. As they talk, they hear Ruby howling in the distance.

-----

Anita speaks over Quinn's body and then turns on Snow, blaming her for leading the Queen's men to their sanctuary. Ruby comes to her friend's defense but Anita passes sentence on Snow, saying that the pack will eat her to avenge Quinn. Red objects and Anita orders her to kill her friend since that's what it means to be a wolf. When it's clear that her daughter won't kill her friend, Anita transforms and prepares to kill Snow herself. Red transforms as well and leaps at her mother, knocking her onto a sharp pole. As Anita lies dying, Snow throws Red's cloak over her, transforming her back to her human form. Red goes to her mother, who accuses her of choosing Snow over her, but Red insists that she chose herself and that she's no killer.

-----

Spencer leads the mob to the library and they hear Ruby howling from down an alleyway. They find the wolf there and Spencer prepares to shoot her. However, Granny knocks the gun out of his hand with a crossbow shot and David tells the mob what Spencer did. He assures them that Ruby won't hurt anyone and, taking the cloak, goes down the alleyway and approaches the wolf. It growls at him and David tells her that Spencer set her up and that she's no killer. He tells her that she can control the wolf and, after a moment, Ruby sits quietly. David puts the cloak on her and she transforms back into her human form. Ruby thanks him for saving her and he says that all he did was remind her of what she already knew.

Spencer breaks away, gets into his car, and drives off. David and Ruby drive after him, Ruby following the killer's scent. They track him to a field and discover that Spencer has started a fire. He freely admits that he killed Billy and tells David that he will never see Emma and Mary Margaret again. Spencer then throws Jefferson's hat into the fire and watches it burn. David knocks him down and draws his gun, and Spencer tells him that he should have killed him when he had the chance. After a moment, David gets control of himself and turns back to the fire, crying.

-----

Red buries Anita in the woods and bids her mother goodbye. Snow hugs her friend and apologizes, saying that she knows what it means to lose family. Red says that Snow is her family, and that she's the only person who accepted her as both a wolf and a human. Snow says that her friend is both and they leave together.

-----

David and Ruby go back to the apartment and watch over Henry as he sleeps. David wonders how he can tell his grandson that their only way of bringing Mary Margaret and Emma back is gone. Ruby tells him that he'll find another way because he knows that David won't give up. She says that she'll be there for him and reminds him to call Granny to release Belle. Ruby then says that there are still a few hours of wolfstime left and she's going to go out and run.

-----

Emma looks for Mary Margaret and finds her sitting in the forest, thinking. Meanwhile, Aurora is sleeping and has her recurring nightmare where she is trapped in a burning room. She sees Henry from before, but now he is wearing the necklace. He tells Aurora not to be afraid, concentrates, and makes the fires die away. Aurora wakes up, screaming, and Emma and Mary Margaret comes over. The princess tells them that she saw the little boy in her nightmare and this time he said that his name was Henry.
