Episode Recap

Hook and Cora arrive at the docks of Storybrooke and Hook comes ashore. He tells his ally that it's time that they part their ways but she teleports in front of him and points out that she still has her dark magic... which means that Rumplestiltskin will as well. Hook realizes that he'd be powerless against the Dark One and reconsiders. A fisherman comes up to them and asks about Hook's ship. Cora makes it turn invisible with a wave of her hand and then transforms the fisherman into a fish. She assures Hook that his ship is fine and says that they need the advantage of secrecy, and suggests that they look around Storybrooke.

The next afternoon, Emma returns with Henry to Mary Margaret's apartment and are surprised to find Mary Margaret and David in bed, making up for lost time. They hastily make up a story for Henry's benefit and Emma is equally shocked to find her parents having sex. She quickly leaves, telling the couple that she's making tacos for that evening's welcome back party for Mary Margaret.

Regina watches Snow and James' armies over throw her rule as one of her black knights rides up to her. He warns her that King George has been defeated and that her army is losing, and Regina tells him to make sure that Snow and James are separated so that she can find Snow and kill her.

Regina soon tracks down Snow in the woods and prepares to kill her. Snow offers her parley, pointing out that she's lost, and Regina prepares to kill her anyway. However, the Blue Fairy flies down and covers Regina with fairy dust, trapping her. James emerges from hiding and tells Regina that they knew that she couldn't resist and so they set a trap for her. Now that they have her, the kingdom is theirs.

-----

That night, everyone arrives at the diner for the welcome back party. As David offers a toast to his wife's and daughter's safe return, Regina comes in and apologizes for running late. The townspeople are ready to kill her, but Emma says that she invited Henry's mother there. David and Mary Margaret talk to their daughter privately, noting that Regina just tried to kill them. Emma believes that Regina should have a second chance and that she's trying to change for Henry. They agree to let her stay and Regina starts serving her lasagna. Despite that, everyone leaves Regina alone and she quickly leaves. Emma goes after her and offers some cake, and Regina refuse and suggests that Henry might stay with her. When Emma hesitates, Regina snaps at her, pointing out that Emma was out of Henry's life for ten years. However, she quickly apologizes for losing her temper. Emma admits that she invited Regina because Archie told her that Regina was trying to change. Regina says that it was right but leaves anyway... unaware that Cora and Hook are watching her from a nearby rooftop. Hook asks if Regina is broken yet, and Cora says that her daughter hasn't... yet.

The next morning, Archie is out on the docks walking his dog, Pongo, when Regina confronts him. She's furious that he violated her confidence by talking to Emma, but Archie insists that he didn't tell Emma anything confidential and was just trying to help. An angry Regina tells him that he's lucky that she has changed.

-----

The council of the Enchanted Forest gathers and Jiminy Cricket warns them that Regina will never change. However, he doesn't want to banish Regina for fear that she would torment some other land's inhabitants. James warns them that killing Regina is the only way to stop her for good and dismisses the council. Once he's alone with Snow, she points out that he once stopped her from killing Regina. James points out that he did it to stop her from becoming a killer, not out of any love for Regina, and that they have no choice but to kill their enemy.

-----

Ruby is outside the diner that night and sees Regina go into Archie's office across the street. Upstairs, Regina asks to talk with the psychiatrist, who lets her in. He's surprised that Pongo is growling at her since she's been there before. Regina then grabs Archie by the throat and strangles him to death. She then leaves transforming into Regina as she goes.

The next day, Henry and Emma are having breakfast at the diner. As they talk about Emma's adventures in the enchanted Forest, she insists on walking him to the bus even though she never has before. As they go to the bus, Pongo runs up, barking. Ruby hears him and because of her wolf nature, is unable to understand that something is wrong. Once Emma gets Henry on the bus, she and Ruby go to Archie's office and discover that the psychiatrist is dead.

-----

As the people of the kingdom gather in the courtyard for Regina's execution, she watches from her tower cell. Her father Henry comes to see her and admits that as a father he failed to protect her. Regina assures him that he's not to blame, and Henry tells her that she can still live if she shows regret for all of the pain that she's caused and give Snow and James a reason to let her live.

-----

David and Emma arrest Regina and take her to the jail. They inform her that Archie is dead and Regina is apparently shocked. She insists that she was home all evening and that even if she had killed Archive, she wouldn't have been sloppy enough to let anyone see her. Regina also insists that she wouldn't do anything to endanger Henry's feelings for her. David doesn't believe that Regina could ever change, but Emma isn't so sure.

-----

Regina is taken to the courtyard while a hooded Rumplestiltskin watches from the crowd. Jiminy asks if Regina has any final words of regret. She steps forward and says that she does regret... not causing even more death and destruction. James orders the executioners to fire, but as they fire, Snow yells at them to stop. The Blue Fairy halts the arrows in midair and Snow tells her husband that killing isn't the way. She walks while the guards take Regina back to her cell.

-----

Emma meets privately with Mary Margaret and David and insists that Regina isn't guilty. She figures that Emma would destroy the building if she were guilty, rather than waste time protesting her innocence. Emma insists that Regina should be considered innocent until proven guilty and proposes to release her and then find out the truth.

-----

James and Snow discuss Snow's intervention and she says that all she saw was a woman who didn't want to appear weak before her former subjects. Snow points out that when she was a little girl, Regina saved her life, and she believes that the woman Regina once was is still somewhere deep inside. James still believes that killing Regina is the safest but Snow points out that if they can't take it back if they kill Regina. He agrees but warns Snow that if they spare Regina's life and she harms someone else, there is no coming back from that.

Snow goes back to the courtyard that night to consider what to do. Rumplestiltskin emerges from the shadows and admits that he came there to watch Regina die. When he wonders how Snow plans to redeem Regina, Snow admits that she doesn't know. Rumplestiltskin offers to provide a test so that Snow can determine if Regina is sincere. When Snow wonders why he would make a deal since he wants Regina dead, Rumplestiltskin refuses to answer and simply asks if they have a deal.

-----

Emma, Mary Margaret, and David go to Archie's office. They search his file and discover that someone has taken Regina's files. While Emma's parents believe that confirms Regina is guilty, Emma still believes that the case has been too easy to solve. She figures that it's a frame and that while everyone in town had a grudge against Regina, only one person would kill someone else to get their revenge. They go to Gold's pawnshop where he's preparing a picnic with Belle. Emma accuses Gold of killing Archie, but he insists that he's innocent and tells them to talk to the one witness: Pongo. He says that a spell will let them see the dog's memories but that they should let Emma cast the spell so that he can't trick them. Emma is reluctant to do so but Gold runs a dream catcher over Pongo's back and then hands it to her, telling her to focus. She concentrates and is able to bring the images into focus. They watch as Regina approaches Archie and strangles him, and Emma is forced to admit that her parents were right. As she goes to the jail, David and Mary Margaret warn her that Regina is too powerful to arrest without a plan. Mary Margaret suggests that they use fairy dust again and Emma promises them that she has a way to surprise Regina.

-----

Snow goes to see Regina, ordering the cell guard to leave. Once they're alone, Snow tells Regina that she wasn't always evil, but Regina points out that woman lost her love and is gone. Snow opens the cell and says that all Regina need is a chance to let that woman return by starting fresh. Regina walks out of the cell but then grabs Snow and slams her against the wall. Since her magic is still neutralized, Regina takes Snow's dagger and stabs her in the stomach... and nothing happens. As James and the guards step out of the shadows, Snow explains that Rumplestiltskin used one of Regina's hairs cast a protection spell on Snow and David. Nothing Regina can do in the land will hurt them ever again. Snow tells Regina that she's sparing her life and that now they're even, and informs the former queen that she is banished from the Enchanted Forest. She promises to kill Regina if she ever tries to hurt anyone else in the kingdom and then leaves with James.

-----

Emma, David, and Mary Margaret go to Regina's home and Emma tells her what she saw. Regina figures that Gold framed her and asks who cast the spell to retrieve Pongo's memories. She's shocked when she learns that Emma was the one that cast the spell, and warns that magic always comes with a price. Emma angrily says that Henry is the one who will pay the price when he learns that Regina used magic and killed someone. Regina angrily walks after them, demanding to see her son, and the Mother Superior steps out and throws a packet of fairy dust at her. Regina easily stops it with a spell and then knocks everyone down with a spell. Emma tells her that Henry will never believe that Regina says to him ever again. Realizing that she's lost, Regina teleports away.

Later, Emma and her parents go to pick up Henry at the bus stop. Emma worries that she doesn't know how to be a parent, but David and Mary Margaret assure her that she'll do fine. Henry gets off the school bus and Emma takes him to a bus and tells him what happened. As Henry breaks into tears and Emma embraces her son, Regina secretly watches from down the street and breaks into tears.

-----

On the day of Snow and James' wedding, Rumplestiltskin comes to see Regina at her castle. He says that he's there to raise her spirits, but Regina points out that she can't stop the wedding because of Rumplestiltskin's protection spell. He admits that he cast it but reminds her that he made it specifically to only work in the Enchanted Forest. When Rumplestiltskin says that Regina can harm them somewhere else, Regina tells her father to bring a carriage because she's going to the wedding.

-----

Cora returns to the docks and tells Hook that she has succeeded in destroying her daughter's life. When he asks when she'll help him get his revenge, Cora tells him that she has a gift for him to achieve his revenge. They go into the invisible ship and descend to the hold. Cora opens a hatch and reveals her gift: Archie, bound and gagged. She tells Hook that she killed someone else and used a spell to transform them into the likeness of Archie. The psychiatrist knows all of the townspeople's secrets, including Gold, and they can use that information to find out Gold's weaknesses and destroy him. Hook wonders if Archie will talk and Cora is sure that they can force him to tell them what they want.
