  • I have the condition, too

Mine is the catamenial type which occurred when I would have my menstrual periods. I was put on meds, which I took religiously, did very well, but had some breakthrough seizures in my early 40's when it was found I was starting menopause. I had a hysterectomy some 10 years later due to fibroids, and had a stress related seizure when a pet cat of mine died. At least I have another cat to play with. My seizures were not continuous like some other people who have the condition, it's just that my body did not like what was going on during my cycles.moreless
  • Ann hires Julie's high school friend as her new secretary. Ann observes Leslie, her secretary, with a blank look on her face & sees her take a pill, leading Ann to assume that Leslie is taking some kind of illegal drug.moreless

This was yet another ground-breaking episode in the series by pointing out the stigma and prejudice over Epilepsy. Until recently, most people were ignorant about this condition and didn't know how to deal with it. The writers obviously did their research on epilepsy. They showed the Leslie character's seizure as mild, which is more common than the more violent type, such as the one that the Dr. Leavitt character showed in the movie "The Andromeda Strain". They also showed that an epileptic episode can happen at any time and not necessarily triggerd by something like flashing lights, again, as in "The Andromeda Strain". This was also an episode that gave Mackenzie Phillips a chance to show better acting skills as she defends her friend Leslie and educates Ann and Barbara on what epilepsy is and isn't. Julie: "Oh, sure, you can smoke grass and drink like a fish and everybody thinks you're cool, but tell someone you're and epileptic and suddenly you're a freak"! Leslie: "It's not a disease - it's a CONDITION"!moreless
