A brilliant episode that makes fun of ... the series itself. When the Meldrews' cleaner writes a play about her employers, the theatrical agent finds it hard to accept the characters and the story. (His final line in the episode is in fact Victor's catchphrase: I don't believe
He complains that the coincidences are a bit too much and that certain incidents are never explained (such as the appearance of the giant fly). The clever thing about all of this is that the criticism is quite valid, but for six seasons the viewers have put these squabbles aside and just enjoyed the near surreal comedy. And once again the Meldrews experience a number of unusual challenges in half an hour that most people would barely collect in a lifetime.moreless
