There is a word "mowe" written on Morgan's chin armor. It's a Deutsch language. It means "sea gull bird"
More like a mistake that wasn't meant to be. By erasing the top part of the pole where Zoro was tied, a part of Luffy's hat has been slightly erased too.
Originally, the American version of the manga (VIZ) spelled his name as "Roronoa Zoro", but it was changed to "Zolo" in chapter 50. His family name, Roronoa, comes from the real-life French pirate François l'Ollonais.
A close up of Zolo in Rika's story is cut out.
Zolo's name can be pronounced as either "ro" or "lo". The Japanese pronounce it "lo" because r's sound like l's in Japan.
Zolo is originally named Zoro. But because it sounds like "Zorro" and to avoid paying royalties, 4Kids changed the name. In the Funimation version, it goes back to Zoro.
Helmeppo: Father! Why aren't you helping me get revenge? He punched me! He punched the face that even my father hasn't punched! Morgan: The reason I have never punched in in the face...do you know why? Helmeppo: Well that is because I'm your... Morgan: That's right. You are... (punches Helmeppo) not worth hitting!
Luffy: What's wrong with being a pirate? Zolo: Pirates are scums! Who would want to be one?
Zolo: Koby, just who is this guy? Luffy: I'm Monkey D. Luffy, and I'm gonna be King of the Pirates!
Luffy: (Apologizing for breaking Axe-Hand's statue) Uh...sorry.
Nami makes a cameo appearance in this episode.
Original Japanese Airdate: November 17, 1999
This episode covers Chapters 3-5 of the manga.
In the Manga Helmeppo, revealed his Plans about Zolo execution while he was walking through town telling people to worship him. In the Anime he was at a Restaurant revealing Zolo execution plans while ordering a drink. He still got a punch from Luffy in both version.
In the Manga when the Luffy and Coby were Talking about Zolo and Morgan, They were at a restaurant, while in the Anime, the talk about Zolo and Morgan took place in the towns marketplace.
Japanese Title: The Great Swordsman Appears! Pirate Hunter, Roronoa Zoro!
4Kids Edit: The 'Marines' are called the 'Navy' in the 4Kids dub. In the Funimation dub, the uniforms are labeled MARINES.
4Kids Edit: The post Zolo is tied to was a cross but the top was edited out.
The guns used by the Navy troops were edited to look like squirt guns (or maybe air guns), even though they still fire bullets.
The cookies Rika (the little girl whom Zolo saved) gives to Zolo were originally onigiri (rice balls), but edited into cookies as part of 4Kids' localizing of the anime. Helmeppo at least had an excuse for not liking the rice balls: Rika made them using sugar instead of salt.
Debuts: Captain Morgan, Helmeppo, Zolo
Captain Morgan's spoiled son, Helmeppo, doesn't seem to be mentioned by name in the 4Kids dub.
Zoro's name was changed to Zolo in the english dub. This is most likely to avoid confusion with the character Zorro of the 1957 TV series and movies. And as of December issue 2004 VIZ changed Zoro to Zolo too.
The man who fell before Zoro while Coby describes him is cut out. The conversation between Coby and Luffy while they're walking in town is cut short.
