Luffy and Koby arrive at Naval Base Island. Koby is hoping to sign up with the navy, while Luffy looking to recruit Roronoa Zolo into his pirate crew. Things don't seem to be right on the island. Everyone on the seems to be just as terrified of Captain Morgan, leader of the base, as they are of Zolo. They have good reason to, Morgan is little more than a paranoid, ruthless tyrant, and his selfish, spoiled-rotten son had Zolo imprisoned under dubious charges. And in the process of rescuing Zolo from his false imprisonment and eventual execution, Luffy and Koby end up getting on Morgan's bad side! How will our heroes escape this mess?moreless
  • in this episode loopy and koby make thier way to the pirate town to free roronora zolo.

zolo is awesome. i love his attitude and everything about him. koby showed some courage when he went and tried to free zolo in the end. in this episode we saw that there are guns in this show, but apparently they have no effect on loopy because of his rubber body. now that they have reached zolo they are going to free him probably after they escape this trap that captain morgan set for them. i hate captain morgan, even though he seems really cool with that big giant axe. i think in the third episode zolo will be part of the crew.moreless
  • A very exciting episode that rarely compels me to anticipate the next.

Luffy and Coby head off to a near by town, where they plan on parting ways soon. Coby always dreamed of joining the marines to capture pirates, and Luffy dreams of collecting a crew in order to gain the treasure One Piece. Soon, their dreams start to unraval as a person named Zoro is being held captive in the local Marine building, which greatly interests Luffy. And coincidentally, Coby is headed the same way so he can be recruited. Though it seems like things didn't turn out the way as expected; Zoro isn't really a bad guy, just a man who was held prisoner due to a tyrant threatening the civilians, and the Marines aren't all that good as well.

Though Luffy, who's confident that Morgan, the local captain to the marines force in the area, isn't as strong as him, which allows his mind to defy all laws established by the authority. His plan seems to succeed as Morgan's statue breaks thanks to Luffy, who also got nearly hit by a bullet when elastic man repelled them in an attempt to shield Zoro from his execuation.

I don't know what it was about this episode, but it got me hooked from the very beginning, which left me disappointed when it ended. It seems like so much had happened in just 22 minutes, like understanding Luffy's personality more, watching Coby cowardly avoid death again. It was also interesting to see Luffy unprofessionally asking Zoro to be his first crew member. Even though the action may not be on par with lets say, Dragonball Z, the lighthearted and charm was what made this episode really enjoyable.

  • Roronoa Zoro? A pirate hunter? Sounds good.

Luffy hears about Roronoa Zoro from Coby. OH NO! Luffy wants Zoro to join his crew? How will Luffy do that after all Zoro is one of the most notorious pirate hunters? Do you still want him Luffy? "Yes." Then let's get him. It is time to get the second Strawhat. But there is stuff in the way. Helmeppo has put him in "jail" and made a promise to him that if he lives a month he will not execute the little girl. Is Zoro really that nice? I bet Luffy wants him in his crew now. "Yep"

I gave this episode an 8.9/10 because Thos is the beginning of Roronoa Zoro a member of the Strawhat crew. If this was the dub then I would give this a 2.1/10 because simply 4Kids dubbed it.

Luffy Finally meet Zorro!! Zorro is the coolest character ever! GOOO Zorro!!! (I use his real name. I don't care for the English dubbed one.)
I really like this episode because they show that Zorro isn't a bad person as he is always shown to be. He just don't want to see anyone get hurt! yay Zorro!!
