  • Middle Of The Road Fare

    6.0
Not a terribly involving episode of the series though a decent performance by Cloris Leachman keeps it middle of the road fare for OSB. A strange man suddenly appears to "model" for Leachman for her piece on Paris, France but it soon becomes clear to the photgrapher that all is not what it appears to be or should be with this mysterious man. Not often in it's three year run did One Step Beyond "telegraph" it's "psychic punch" for it's episodes but it does here and since it happens early on, the steam comes right out of the engine. Decent enough drama but OSB has done a lot better than this.moreless

    • Rita: If you have some time I'd like to get some lights set up. (holding her head in excruiating pain) Oh, I don't know if I'll be able to do it afterall. I'm awfully sorry I feel just awful. Everything goes in and out of focus, almost like a bad camera. Only it isn't the camera it's me.
      Jean: What a shame.

    • Detective Marsac: (at the cemetary) Jean Gabeau executed in 1926 for killing his young wife. The very same house, the very same room.
      Rita: What was her name?
      Detective Marsac: Cecile.

    • John Newland: (closing dialogue) So you see, dead men do tell tales. Sometimes, the restless ones even revisit the scene of the crime causing much havoc to the living nearby. What do you suppose Rita Wallace will tell her grandchildren one day about Monsieur Jean Gabeau? Will she try to explain it at all? For that I would like to hear, cause I can't explain it, but it happened just the same.
