Writers really made it ... great episode.. :)

Like others I was apprehensive about the four year leap ahead.

But the writers really pulled it off.
  • Adults years begin...

It was clearly not going to be an easy ride after high school and that's the message that 4 Years, 6 Months, 2 Days gave in it's 40 minutes.

So where are the characters now? Brooke is running Clothes Over Bro's, which is now a massively successful company. But she struggles to find happiness in her work, mainly due to Victoria (nice how they don't reveal who she is yet). Peyton is an assistant to the assistant in LA but really isn't happy at all. And she and Lucas are not together anymore. Both these storylines, especially the latter were pretty depressing considering how hopeful the forth season finale was BUT being back in Tree Hill should help them.

None of this compares to Nathan who after a fight is now in a wheelchair and in self-destruct mode. Horribly, he and Haley are struggling as he's neglecting her and Jamie - who is incredibly cute and I almost wish he never grew up because he has already created a wonderful dynamic for the show. But Haley does have a job teaching and is looking great too. Besides all that angst - Lucas published a book but is finding it hard to write another. And he's in a relationship with his editor Lindsey. Bold move pulling he and Peyton part. Oh and Mouth is trying but failing to get a job.

In fact, all of this premier was pretty bold. No one seems to be completely happy and the drama has already begun.

Welcome to Tree Hill, the adult years.

First off I hate Lindsey. I hated her the moment we met her and whenever I watch this season over I still hate her. I'm a Leyton fan. Lucas and Peyton belong together and Lindsey has to go!!

Anyway, now that I have that said I thought this episode was great. This whole season was. I think the time jump idea was a risky one, but it worked. It gave the writers and the actors a change to explore whole new stories and sides of the show and their characters. Because it's still One Tree Hill we already know who the people are so we don't have to get to know them, but because it's been four years we have to get to know who they are now. The kids from Tree Hill did there major growing up in high school so showing them in college was not necessary and with everyone going off in different directions after high school it would have been to difficult to shoot and make the show great if these characters that are such great friends are apart when they should be together.

Brooke: I love that she has found success in her line. It's so amazing that Clothes Over Bros is now this big company. I love that her company is different then others, too in that she doesn't want models that are super skinny. And it was great that she decided to come home.

Peyton: I love Peyton and this episode was very Peyton heavy. It was focused on her realizing that L.A. wasn't the place for her and she decided to come home. I love that she has so many copies of Lucas' book even though they are no longer together. It's clear she still loves him.

Lucas: He had his book published, he's living at home, and is now the coach of the Ravens. I love that he is coaching the Ravens because he mentioned that in season 4 one time when he was talking to Glenda. His book was published which is so amazing for him. I just wish they would really publish it so the fans could read it. And of course he has a new girlfriend, his editor, Lindsey. Yuck!!

Haley: She said in season 4 that she wanted to be a teacher and now she is teaching at Tree Hill High. I love it. I felt bad for her though because she is new and the class and mostly Quentin are trying to take advantage of that.

Nathan: This sucks!! His is the one storyline that I really don't like. I hate that he had that accident and is now in a wheelchair. After all the effort and drama in season 4 with him losing his scholarship and Whitey asking him to play for him in college and now he might never play again. James Lafferty played this version of Nathan well, but I still don't like it.

Jamie: This kid is so dang cute!! Most of the time kids on show are thrown in for the cute factor and are usually not that great of actors, but Jackson Brundage is both. He is super adorable, but he also a good actor. He plays his role so well and he works great with the other characters. I love him.

I love that Mouth, Skills, Junk, and Fergie are all living together and still basically just the same as they were in high school. They they hang out at home and play video games, but they also still hang out at the River Court, only now they have Jamie along, too.moreless
  • This is so much different from what the show used to be like … why 4 years later all of a sudden?

    5.5
After last season I think it is kind of strange to continue the story as if it were 4 years later now. I was really looking forward to the continuing of the storyline from last season and was expecting the lives of the characters to continue half a year later … and not - all of a sudden - 4 years later. In my opinion it would have been so much nicer if the storyline would have just continued where they had left off. Also I think it is a shame that the character of James Lafferty is acting like a whiny brat! ;-) … Over all I am just not impressed with what the writers of the show did to it. Hope it has nothing to do with the strike they had a few month ago! ;-)

Judging by the rest of the ratings given on this episode (s05e01) I am a loner in my opinion, but hey, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, right?!! :-)

I do hope the show will at least change a little bit back to the way it was, otherwise I have one less show to watch …moreless

  • TRIVIA (8)

    • When Skills and Lucas are in the gym, Tree Hill's state championship banner is visible, along with a runner-up banner from 1989. It is mentioned in other episodes that when Dan was a senior, Tree Hill finished as the runner-up and that since then, they hadn't had such good teams. However, in previous episodes, Dan's senior year was 1986.

    • Haley is no longer wearing a ring on her right pinky. She had previously worn one in seasons 1-4.

    • Brooke's cell phone is an iPhone.

    • Number: 23

While Lucas, Skills, Jamie, Junk and Fergie are playing video games, before Jamie wins the game, the announcer says that number 23 is up.

    • Number: 23

Nathan's new shoe line is called NS 23.

    • In this episode, the intro voice-over was made by Lucas. The closing voice-over was a telephone call between Brooke and Peyton.

    • Number: 23

Right before Nathan's barfight, the number 23 is on a building before the camera pans over to Nathan walking out of the bar.

    • Brooke tells a reporter that she is 21. In the Season 4 episode 'Things I Forgot at Birth', showed Brooke's 18 birthday and with the episode taking place four years, six months and two days after the events of last season, character should be 22 years old. However this could be taken as the character simply lying about her age as is common amongst celebrities.

  • QUOTES (18)

    • (at the airport of Tree Hill) Peyton: I've missed you, Brooke Davis.

Brooke: Mmm, I missed you, P. Sawyer. We're home now.

    • Nathan: (on the couch) My dad's in prison and so am I.
Haley: Yeah well, You can walk out.

    • Nathan: (to Lucas) Give me that bottle right now or Dan is not going to be the only Scott to kill his brother.

    • John Knight: Okay. Let's do lunch. Sawyer! What's the name of that sushi place I like?
Peyton: You were wrong yesterday when you said the kids in the clubs were just there for decadence. I think it's more like romance and hope
and inspiration and that feeling that you get when other human beings pick up basic
instruments and make sense of your world. And the day that I think it's just about
making money is gonna be the day that. I've betrayed everything I believe
in about music and life and myself.
John Knight: Was that a sushi place?
Peyton: I quit, John. I'm going home.
John Knight: You're making a mistake.
      Peyton: No. I'm fixing one.

    • Jamie: I think you drink too much.
      Nathan: I think you're right.

    • Victoria: And I've made a change to the model lineup due to the additional scrutiny from the press.
      Brooke: Oh, but you forgot...
Victoria: She's not on the list.
      Brooke: She's my friend.
Victoria: She's not your friend. She's an employee.
Brooke: I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that.
Victoria: Brooke, clothes over bro's is a multi-million dollar company. Yeah. A company that you've entrusted to me to make executive decisions like these. We have to cut her loose.
      Brooke: You're gonna fire her?
Victoria: No, I'm not gonna fire her. You're gonna fire her. It's your company, my dear. I just work here.

    • Brooke: Okay. What time is the premiere?
      Assistant: 8:00,red carpet at 6:00.
Brooke: I'm gonna do the red carpet and then skip the movie. Let's call one of the Nicks and find out if they'd like to go.
Assistant: Okay, which knick do you prefer? There's Stephon Marbury, Jamal Crawford... Oh, David Lee is really cute.
Brooke: Not the New York knicks, you goof. The nicks: Nick Lachey, Nick Zano, Nick Reid. Whoever. And tell Victoria to wait for me in the limo.
Assistant: She's not gonna like that.
Brooke: Well, she works for me.

    • Brooke: Guys. Absolutely not! There is no way she gets on the cover of my magazine unless she gains 10 pounds, minimum. She looks unhealthy.
      Assistants: We were just brainstorming.
Brooke: Brainstorm better. Anorexia is a disease. It is not a fashion statement.

    • Skills: So six months ago when they asked us to fix this mess, what the hell were we thinking saying yes?
Lucas: Well, well, isn't it Skills Taylor, the new assistance head coach of the Tree Hill Ravens...
Skills: Hey, if you can afford me. (They laugh) So how great is that, Lucas Scott - head coach. Local boy makes good.
Lucas: Local boys make good. You are a big part of this, Skills.
Skills: I hope so. Man, we blow this place up. Hey, how many games they won since we hung that state championship banner?
Lucas: Not many. But I do know one thing. Losing's over.
      Skills: Oh, no doubt.

    • John Knight: I hate to be the one to break it to you, but rock & roll can't actually save the world.
Peyton: See, I disagree. Walk into any club on the strip tonight, and just look at the kids. Look into their eyes. I mean they're all looking for something to believe in, and I think that music can be the thing to change the world.

    • Lucas: (to Jamie) You are a genius. You sure you're not my kid?

    • Nathan: (Nathan gets out of his wheel chair) Daddy is sorry... For everything.

    • Peyton: Hi. How long has it been?
      Lucas: Heh... Two years...
Peyton: No. It has been longer than that. Luke, I missed you.
Lucas: I have someone now. I'm with someone.

    • Brooke: And we've got to send something funny with a card to Conan O'Brien. Cheese. He likes cheese.
Assistant: You want me to send Conan O'Brien cheese?
Brooke: Manchego, no, send Gouda. Gouda is the funniest cheese.

    • Lucas Scott (voiceover): Sometimes it feels like it was yesterday. We graduated high school, saying goodbye. That feeling that you get at seventeen or eighteen that nobody in the history of the world has ever been this close, has ever loved as fiercely or laughed as hard or cared as much. Sometimes it feels like it was yesterday and sometimes it feels like someone else's memory.

    • (Montage of Peyton talking to someone on the phone and Nathan trashing his trophies - we hear her side of the mysterious phone call)
Peyton: Hi, it's Peyton. Yeah, I'm sorry. I know it's late there, I just... what happened to us? You know? I don't know who I am anymore. Or how I got here. I miss who I used to be. I wanna have a home again, ya know? And real friends. You know, the kind of friendships we used to believe in. I miss that. And I miss you. I guess I just miss all of it. Does any of that make any sense?
(We see Peyton's mysterious phone call is... to Brooke)
Brooke: Yeah, it makes all the sense in the world, Peyton. Four years ago, it all seemed so clear, didn't it? Conquer the world, save the world, live happily ever after.
      Peyton: Are you happy, Brooke?
Brooke: Sometimes. Not always. Are you?
      Peyton: No.
Brooke: Okay, then let me ask you something. What is gonna make you happy, Peyton? Is it how you look? Or the car you drive or the people you know? Is it money or celebrity or power or accomplishments? Because I have all those things and I don't think it's enough.
      Peyton: Well then, what is?
Brooke: Love, I think. And that love can be for a boy or a girl or a place or a way of life or even for a family. But where you find it is up to you. So where are you gonna find that love, Peyton?
Peyton: I think I need to go home.
Brooke: Yeah. I was hoping you'd say that.

    • Haley: Your daddy loves you. You know that right?
      James: Uncle Lucas loves me.

    • Brooke: Clothes over Bro's is my dream come true. This is what I wished for.
