  • Oh, Peyton and Lucas...

    8.5
Oh, Peyton and Lucas. What are you doing? Them hooking up was inevitable because they should have gotten together at the start. But now it's just really shitty on Brooke. I like them as a couple but I mean why drag it out and then hurt someone else? The scene at the end where they see Brooke again was tense and awkward - it's only going to get worse. I can only forgive them because of the circumstances - Peyton's dad is lost at see and might be dead. I liked how she seemed almost calm until she found out he was alive and then panicked about the bracelet he gave her. It seemed like quite a real emotion. Lucas was there for her in that moment but I still hate how they did this to Brooke. She cares about them both and they should know that and come clean.

Dan's parents coming was very entertaining and dramatic! The secret about Dan quitting basketball at college was shocking and a nice reveal. I loved how tense it was at breakfast the next morning. Dan and Deb are over, I think. And it's starting to drag a little. Nathan choosing to start playing again to free himself from his dad is an odd choice - I agree with Haley. The ending seemed to suggest that they weren't talking?

A tense episode where stupid decisions were made...

  • Lucas and Peyton give in to temptation.

    9.5
It's Dan's birthday and his parents have come into town to celebrate completely unaware that Nathan has quit basketball and Dan & Deb have separated. The big family dinner becomes a bigger disaster than anyone could have imagined when a long kept secret of Dan's comes out. His dad treated him the say way he treats Nathan and he quit basketball in college. This prompts Nathan to go back as the only way to beat Dan is to be better than him!!

Peyton's dad is due to come back from another work trip, but a hurricane gets in the way. Peyton has to identify a body to see if it's him. So her and Lucas go to see if it's him and turns out it's not. When they go back to the motel they stayed at for the night they give in to the moment and temptation by almost sleeping together until they remember Brooke is at home waiting for them.moreless
  • Very tense and emotional.

    9.0
This episode had so much tension that you could cut it with a knife. At the Scott's birthday supper, there was tension between Dan and Deb, tension between Dan and Nathan, and the tension got worse as dinner talk focused on basketball. I enjoyed how uncomfortable Dan's dad made him, because he has been making everyone else uncomfortable. It's about time he got a dose of his own medicine. This was an emotional episode for Peyton, which caused her to jump into Lucas' arms and love him like we all have wanted her to since the first episode. The bad thing is that Lucas is with Brooke, which he remembers before things go to far. It is time for him to break up with Brooke before things spiral too far out of control.moreless

  • Season 1, Episode 12.

    9.5
Emotions run high when Peyton discovers that her father is lost at sea and she and Lucas travel to Hilton Head Island to identify a body that has washed ashore. Overcome with emotion, Peyton gives in to pent-up feelings and kisses Lucas, while girlfriend Brooke waits at home. Meanwhile, an unexpected visit from Dan's parents leaves the Scott family in turmoil, as long buried secrets surface at a family dinner. I liked the plot for this episode, but I didn't like that Dan went to Deb's because of his parents, although it was nice of her to let him. Lucas and Brooke are making out and stop because Peyton sees. Lucas (about fixing the car): I was just getting started...

    Brooke: Sadly, so was I...

Great episode! Aww Peyton's dad may be dead! :( I like that Brooke let Luke go with Peyton. She's great, but I can see Brooke and Luke kissing... Dan's father is extremely annoying. Just as annoying as Dan... "Basketball, the team, basketball..." He should shove a basketball up his a$$. He was so annoying! I was hoping he'd have a heart attack at the table. Otherwise, cool episode.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • In the scene where Peyton and Lucas are in the hotel room, Lucas takes her tank top off, and in the next shot she still has it on.

    • When Nathan is talking to Haley on her porch about the events at dinner, right after he says 'I just don't want to deal with it', the camera is facing him and he is clearly looking down and in mid-sigh. When the camera angle switches to face Haley (from the other side of his face), it is clear that he's looking directly at her and smiling.

    • When Peyton and Lucas are in the morgue, the attendant pulls back the sheet off of the corpse. Peyton looks, says it is not her dad, and then immediately turns into Lucas' arms. The shot pans back instantly and the morgue attendant (who was at the head of the table and had no viable way out so quickly) has disappeared entirely.

    • In this episode, Peyton says she got a necklace from her dad on her last birthday, but in the last episode her dad gave her a gift because he missed her last birthday. But it wasn't a necklace he gave her; he gave her oil paints.

  • QUOTES (11)

    • (Peyton shows Lucas and Brooke her dad's car)
Lucas: Damn, that's nice. Is this your dad's?
Peyton: Yeah, he hasn't driven it in like a year though. Do you think you can get it to run?
Brooke: Of course he can. And he's going to look good doing it too in a tight little wife beater, maybe some grease smudges...

    • Haley: You know, I've been thinking. Now that you know the truth about your dad, you're free, right? I mean, he's been lying to you all this time. You don't have to listen to him anymore. There's no more pressure.
Nathan: Yeah I wish that were true.
      Haley: What do you mean?
Nathan: My dad walked away and his father will never forgive him for that. I have to go back.
      Haley: Nathan, I...
Nathan: I have to beat him, Haley. it's the only way I'm ever going to be free of my dad.

    • Peyton: Why does it seem like every time things are finally gonna be okay something terrible happens?

    • Royal: Too bad Keith takes after his mother's side of the family.
      May: Lucky for him.
Keith: I'd drink to that, but I gotta get a refill.

    • (Brooke pulls on Lucas's necklace and starts kissing him.)
Lucas: Is that what you got me this thing for?
      Brooke: Mhmm.

    • Larry: Hey honey.
Peyton: Hey dad, what's goin' on with the unibomber look?
Larry: I was going for George Clooney.
      Peyton: Hmm, go further.

    • Peyton: You know in dreams, you're always trying to get to some place you need to be, but you never really get there?
      Lucas: Yeah.
Peyton: I wish I could wake up.

    • Nathan: Haley, you got that look.
      Haley: What look?
Nathan:: The look you get when you wanna tell me something, but you don't really want to tell me.
Haley: No I don't and you shouldn't know that look yet.

    • (Peyton laughs)
      Lucas: What?
Peyton: I am in a hurry to find out if my dad is dead.... It's kind of surreal.

    • Lucas: Look, Peyton. I just wish there was something I could do, or say to help you through this.
Peyton: You already have. Thanks Lucas.

    • Peyton: It was stupid, ok? You're with Brooke now.
      Lucas: Yeah...
Peyton: We just got carried away. It didn't mean anything.
      Lucas: It didn't?
      Peyton: Of course it did.
