Episode Summary

Emotions run high when Peyton discovers that her father is lost at sea and she and Lucas travel to Hilton Head Island to identify a body that has washed ashore. Overcome with emotion, Peyton gives in to pent-up feelings and kisses Lucas, while girlfriend Brooke waits at home. Haley meets Nathan's formidable grandparents who have come into town for Dan's birthday dinner and reveals to Nathan that his grandfather was at the cafe looking for Karen. At the meal Mae Scott reveals a secret that weakens Deb's faith in her already crumbling marriage.moreless

  • Very tense and emotional.

    This episode had so much tension that you could cut it with a knife. At the Scott's birthday supper, there was tension between Dan and Deb, tension between Dan and Nathan, and the tension got worse as dinner talk focused on basketball. I enjoyed how uncomfortable Dan's dad made him, because he has been making everyone else uncomfortable. It's about time he got a dose of his own medicine. This was an emotional episode for Peyton, which caused her to jump into Lucas' arms and love him like we all have wanted her to since the first episode. The bad thing is that Lucas is with Brooke, which he remembers before things go to far. It is time for him to break up with Brooke before things spiral too far out of control.moreless

    in this ep of one tree hill peyton finds out that her father is lost at see and she goes with lucas to identfiy the remains and then she kisses lucas and brook is waiting at home for lucas. and also in this ep dans parents come to vist and it causes problems and leaves the family in ruins becasuse a long buried secret comes out at the dinner table. and things start to heat up in this ep due to all the emotion in this ep. it was a really good one i thought and that is why i gave it a 9moreless

    Emotions run high when Peyton discovers that her father is lost at sea and she and Lucas travel to Hilton Head Island to identify a body that has washed ashore. Overcome with emotion, Peyton gives in to pent-up feelings and kisses Lucas, while girlfriend Brooke waits at home. Meanwhile, an unexpected visit from Dan's parents leaves the Scott family in turmoil, as long buried secrets surface at a family dinner. I liked the plot for this episode, but I didn't like that Dan went to Deb's because of his parents, although it was nice of her to let him. Lucas and Brooke are making out and stop because Peyton sees. Lucas (about fixing the car): I was just getting started...

    Great episode! Aww Peyton's dad may be dead! :( I like that Brooke let Luke go with Peyton. She's great, but I can see Brooke and Luke kissing... Dan's father is extremely annoying. Just as annoying as Dan... "Basketball, the team, basketball..." He should shove a basketball up his a$$. He was so annoying! I was hoping he'd have a heart attack at the table. Otherwise, cool episode.moreless

  • This episode is a series classic because you can see where Dan gets his attitude and his bad fathering. You also just saw the first time Lucas and Peyton betrayed Brooke by kissing and almost having sex. This episode is very famous in this great series.moreless

    Crash Course in Polite Conversations is the twelfth episode of the series and the first season. It aired on the WB on February 3, 2004. This episode was classic because you can finally see where Dan's fathering comes from and the fact that he used to be Nathan. You could also see someone that is going through that same thing Deb is going. I also loved the part where Lucas and Peyton are in the hotel and they kiss while Brooke is waiting for them. This is where that love triangle physically began and I also loved that part when Peyton cried because of her bracelet and the background music was great. This episode is a season one classic.moreless

    I liked the episode alot because peyton kisses lucas and it's the start of a love that will last for eternity. If i could choose one of this girls, it would be brooke because she is way cuter than peyton. I love one three hill cuz i love basketball, high school, and fine fine fine girls. That is why i like it so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so os so much! sophia bush is so hot. thanksmoreless

    • When Nathan is talking to Haley on her porch about the events at dinner, right after he says 'I just don't want to deal with it', the camera is facing him and he is clearly looking down and in mid-sigh. When the camera angle switches to face Haley (from the other side of his face), it is clear that he's looking directly at her and smiling. Edit
    • When Peyton and Lucas are in the morgue, the attendant pulls back the sheet off of the corpse. Peyton looks, says it is not her dad, and then immediately turns into Lucas' arms.
